Orange 'Free' Broadband
Comments

Although I recently done a deal, I am currently within my 7 day cooling off period (distance selling regulations). Thinking carefully!
I have discovered Orange call charges can be expensive (if out of any bundles).
For example, evening call to UK landline BT 1.5p min, Orange 7.5p
Orange charge connection fee of 12.5p per 0800 'free' call.
Orange charge a lot more for access codes numbers, eg 0843 or 0844 various numbers to make cheap international calls. BT may charge 1p min, but Orange 1-6p+ min. (check individual number)
It's complex and varies and depends if you use your land line phone to make any calls and whether you add a call package.
Not easy reading, but to find out the cost to a particular number, you need to read the price guide and also look at the number range guide.

So if you do make various types of land line calls, please check and compare prices carefully, if you will personally be affected by switching to Orange.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
Massive thanks to Fitz2012 for pointing out that free 0800 calls are CHARGEABLE under Oranges current price structure.
I'm on BT line rental saver and the only calls I make from my landline are 0800 calls. I know I can use 0800 buster on my mobile, but the whole advantage to companies using 0800 numbers to allow customers to call is to encourage customers to call (you mostly see them for sales / sign-ups).
If Ofcom rules mean that they are not allowed to put a connection fee on this call (which I have not yet googled, maybe calling it a connection fee negates it from ofcom rules?), then they should be held to account. ONLY... ofcom will not investigate unless a "significant number of complaints" have been made. They are unable to quantify "significant".
Oh, still not call back from the mystery squad.
Share unlimited wireless with your neighbour, split the cost. (bait)0 -
0808, 0800 & 0500 cannot be charged any cost from a landline - FREEPHONE prefixes - no call connection fee applies...well unless you are French & the CEO of Orange/EE.
Other countries have 1800/1300 ( & similar) numbers where a call connection fee applies but the call is free.
Mobile networks may loose the right to charges to freephone numbers, nice to see Orange thinks it will make up for it with ill concieved freephone call connection charges...
I've said it once I will say it again, the ex vice president of France Telecom running EE thinks he can screw customers as Orange France/ France Telecom customers are screwed with the lack of regulator in France, as hopeless as Ofcom is at least it never bends over for BT.
O'laugh your heads off at the incompetence that is the ex VP of national incumbant Orange France Telecom....ps) Did you know the highest mobile termination rate in Europe ? Yup....Orange France !!!!SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

Orange presumably sent out tens if not hundreds of thousands of these letters. I certainly remember getting one. And they verbally assured all of their customers they would recieve free broadband or life.
It clearly states:And you Also Get:
FREE Broadband FOR LIFE
Blatant Misrepresentation and Mis-selling.
And Ofcom are an utter disgrace for ignoring this.Utterly incompetent and dominated by corporate influence, to the detriment of the very consumers interest they are suppose to represent.
I strongly suspect that the Legal Team, who approved Oranges attempts to pull Free Boradband, were not fully informed of the prior history of their offer. Otherwise any decent firm of solicitors, would have told them they could be found in breach of certain acts.0 -
I started to receive FREE broadband from Orange a few years ago, and have recently renewed my phone contract, where verbally I was reminded of the free broadband for the life of the contract.
I have been via OFCOM, and the Exec complaints team at Orange, and all they can offer is the 'move your landline' solution which I refuse to do. No letter from Orange though - they seem to want to deal verbally.
Anyway I at the end of my tether - and have told Orange I am arranging BB elsewhere, and also getting an alternative mobile contract, and I will be cancelling my Direct Debit to them - they can chase me for money!
Having spoke to a legal adviser (free legal advice on home insurance) I have been advised to ask Orange for a copy of my original contract where it says they can remove the free broadband, and also a full copy of any T&Cs showing either my signature or where my attention has been drawn to this, and a transcript of the phone call where I renewed the mobile contract a few months ago when they promised free broadband for the duration.
I will ask Orange for these today, but if anyone has any comments or is one step ahead, please let me know. I am happy to let Orange take me to court for me cancelling my end of the contract, but any supporting documentation would be useful.0 -
According to this document 0800 calls have a 12.5p connection fee.
Its also worth nothing the cost of calls to 118118.
£2.30 connection + £1.80 a minute on orange
£0.38 connection + £1.59 a minute on BT
Quite a material detriment there if you use those services0 -
What is most interesting is the fact the prices were increased the same month as the free broadband was moved to take over peoples lines!0

Its a massive exercise to generate cash. They've started their 4g rollout months earlier than they budgeted for, and need a way to pay for it.
..
I noticed when 4G was announced on EE.co.uk it said when it launches you can swap over your iphone 5 a EE 4G plan... and now when somebody tweeted a EE rep a few weeks down the line they said the plan needs to be more expensive than your current one and the minimum contract term starts again.
That wasn't made very clear at the start was it.0 -

You can just see what a mess they will make of 4G - i can see eager people buying to then find its only rolled out in certain cities - I mean we are dealing with a company who dont actually know if their head office is called Orange headquarters or Everything Everywhere headquarters - I've just asked them so I address my summons correctly - they are not sure!!! luckily for me its the same address. Funny thing is they dropped the name everything everywhere and changed to EE - but their staff dont seem aware of this.0
