I know that my weight is probably affecting things. I am 287 pounds currently (losing though!) with a supposed BMI of 50.9... Thing is, at my 'normal' weight, I look anorexic! I'm aiming to get down to 140 pounds in the end. If I have a little one between now and then, so be it, if not, so be it. I'm not 'dieting' per se though, I'm just watching my portions of some foods (meats and grains mostly) and letting myself go a bit crazy with others (green beans, broccoli, etc) to fill myself up, have better nutrition, and to not get as much calories.

I have heard the fat cells pump out oestrogen which upsets the delicate balance of the hormones....
Heck I need to lose the weight anyway so may aswell add it to the list of reasons.
I was doing really well on an atkins style diet - it stops you being hungry - shame xmas came along when it did.

No, no - the doctors said not to conceive last year becuase I had a serious eye condition that meant I nearly lost my left eye. If I'd got pregnant then it would have accelerated it (having my son in 2010 probably brought it on - its linked to diabetes ladies so no need to worry about this happening to you if you're not a diabetic).

I'd just started TTC before then, but was so depressed (at the time they said I may NEVER be able to have another baby) that I just ignored all my periods and went back on the coil and didn't really think too much about that side of things.

Problem with the clomid is it is messing up my cycles - I bled for a week from days 9-15 last month - so I don't really want to stay on it if it does that again. Also I'd like to know for my own peace of mind if I can ovulate on my own.

Personally I think my weight has a lot to do with it. I put on a lot of weight with my first pregnancy, lost some but then put on a stone in the autumn due to stress. I'm desperately trying to get it down again in the hopes this will regulate my cycle and was doing really well, lost a stone in 6 weeks before xmas, but then xmas came along and...

Who else on here thinks their weight is affecting things. My BMI was nearly 30, now it's about 28.5, but I have a fat tummy which is the worst area to have it!

aaah I see - I thought that sounded really weird! I hope your eye is ok now, thats scary.

I think if your bmi is over 25 it can affect your cycles - but I think that again, weight is something that drs look to first, and it doesnt necessarily mean that is the cause! There could be something else going on.

If youre not comfortable with the clomid then perhaps go back to the drs and have a chat? See a different dr & get their opinion? ask for more tests?

We're giving the clomid another month to see if it was a one off. The first month it worked fine, no bleeding and prog was 45 at day 21.
That's why I was so upset when it didn't work last month, but I guess this month will be the decider.

I think the general rule is to give any new treatment 3 months to give it time to work.

I worry about my weight affecting things too. I am a bit overweight now but then when we started out I was in the normal bmi range and still didnt get pregnant (obviously that 1% who don't get pregnant in 18 months which makes me feel like a freak and a failure). Fatter people than me get pregnant but I'm going to lose the extra weight because I know how doctors work and when we eventually go for help, I know they'll just blame my weight and send us away and they're not getting to do that.

I think theres some statistic somewhere that says something like 90 something percent will conceive within 12 months but the rest - up to about 99% will conceive within the next 6 after that.

Plus my friend made me feel better when she spoke to her friend who is a gynae specialist dr who said that she tells her patients not to worry until after 24 cycles - not even 24 months.

I think its only a minority of people get pregnant quickly and it really is totally normal for it to take 12 months. I think they just advise you to see a dr then, so that you dont spend any longer waiting if there is a problem - but it doesnt mean that there IS something wrong.

I have weird irregular cycles and it took me 8 cycles to conceive. My friend has cycles around 30 days, pretty regular, took her 8 cycles too. There seems to be no rhyme or reason!

Trust me I know how frustating it is. But I just dont want you to assume there something 'wrong' with you or your DH.:)

Thank you Claire. This is a really useful post.

PMA today is high. Hoping that if I can lower my BMI by two points, it may alter my clyle natrually, thus I will ovulate earlier :)

Oooh my CBFM is here! Just in time as it is CD1 :)

    CD1 PMA list:
    - I've got my CBFM which feels like I'm actually doing something positive :)
    - I'd rather not have an August baby and both our families like to have early babies so that may have been a possibility if I got a BFP now. :p
    - I'm on the weight-loss wagon for real from Monday as I ought to be lighter/healthier for when I do get PG (kind of trying to get into it now, but I have just eaten a Cadbury's chocolate dessert as I've got a sore throat! :o)
    - I have a lovely hubby, a nice (albeit little) home and a good life as it stands. :)
    - More time to get said home de-junked and decorated in time to refill it with baby clutter! :j

Thanks for the useful post Claire. I kind of know all that stuff but it doesn't make the waiting easier! :o
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Oh it definitely doesnt help with the waiting. But knowing you might be 'ok/normal' is good!:)

its CD2 for me & I would like some advice from you ladies please :-)
I got my coil taken out late August 2012. I have had cycles every month:
    Sept 29 days
    Oct 32 days
    Nov 25 days
    Dec 31 days
As you can see they are a bit 'all over the place'
When would you guys suggest to start doin ovk? from CD7? or is that too soon?
    Thanks in advance :-)

    Good for you!

Can you honestly say that you bded at the perfect time in everyone of those 18 months though?

When I look back at my FF charts, there were definitely a couple/few in there where we had a pathetic ONE bd at ovulation time. Must try harder is now my motto!:)

Dh is rather excited about that - although he seems to have forgotten very quickly how knackered and drained he apparently was when we did do it 3 times in a row when I got pg :rotfl:
