morning all, i hope you all had a great new year.
im going to be a bit quiet for a bit longer. we were on our way home from my uncles funeral and got a call (DHs dad is as tactful as a brick through a window) to say his gran had passed away, i got really annoyed about how he was just going to tell DH over the phone, and that he told me over the phone when we would have been home within 2 hours......(i shall leave that rage there!)
so that was my uncle died on 27th, funeral on 31st, DHs gran died 1st.
in other news, ive been mostly taking my opks (missed 2 days) and the line is getting darker, so hopefully ov within the next few days, which, fingers crossed means my cycles are hopefully becoming a bit more regular.

hugs to all who needs, and congrats for any BFPs ive missed, ill try and catch up over the next few days

    Welcome Optimistic and Fluffysox!

    I miss QQ too :(

My shiny new toy still hasn't arrived. I think I'll be calling CD1 today so need something to cheer me up! :)

Angie, I don't think OH would be willing to go private just yet. He's got 18 months stuck in his head as the 'acceptable time' to TTC and I'll go with it (we've been trying for 14 :o). I tentatively brought up the subject of paying for IVF if it ever came to that and he flat out refused to put me though it so I don't want to upset him by pushing and fertility stuff right now. He's the type who needs time to sort out stuff in his head and decide it's his idea rather than be talked into it! :p We do have a medical cash back plan so if we do have a private consultation at any point at least we'll get £200 back. :)

As for OV, I've been assuming I have been but not 100% convinced, which is why I'm eagerly awaiting my CBFM! :)

I think theres some statistic somewhere that says something like 90 something percent will conceive within 12 months but the rest - up to about 99% will conceive within the next 6 after that.

Plus my friend made me feel better when she spoke to her friend who is a gynae specialist dr who said that she tells her patients not to worry until after 24 cycles - not even 24 months.

I think its only a minority of people get pregnant quickly and it really is totally normal for it to take 12 months. I think they just advise you to see a dr then, so that you dont spend any longer waiting if there is a problem - but it doesnt mean that there IS something wrong.

I have weird irregular cycles and it took me 8 cycles to conceive. My friend has cycles around 30 days, pretty regular, took her 8 cycles too. There seems to be no rhyme or reason!

Trust me I know how frustating it is. But I just dont want you to assume there something 'wrong' with you or your DH.:)

Oh no trina what awful news. That is pretty terrible way of receiving the news too. Big hugs!

I told DH this morning that if the guys at his work were giving him heck about his back bothering him, tell them it's from all of the sex he's been getting. ;)

He laughed hysterically at that, then said, nope, not going to do that!

Trina - Sorry about the difficult time for your family. My OH uncle died two days before Xmas and we couldn't make it back to Holland for the funeral. Big Hugs to you.

Claire - That was a great post. Hadn't really thought of it like that. I think it is the sheer frustration of wanting something so badly and having to wait so long that makes us all crazy. This has been the longest year of my life.

I felt so much better after my friend told me that. She took about 10 cycles I think to conceive but I think for her that was more like 14-6 months, and although she never went for any tests, she got pregnant and has a baby so there's likely nothing wrong with her apart from odd cycles. But it still took that long!

Sorry to hear that Trina. I'm still going to be using the OPKs Claire, but don't know if I can trust them now as they said I'd ov'd but doctor said it was unlikely. Basically I've had two tests say completely different things - confusion city.
I do wonder if he put me on clomid too soon - I'd only had one month where I'd been using the opks, and didn't get a smiley, so my progesterone was measured and it was really low (2 or 3) so they put me on clomid. At the time I was like - result! - but now it makes me wonder if it was just an odd month where I wasn't ovulating. I've no idea whether I was or not before then, I've been getting periods but quite light ones and fairly regular I think, but as i was told not to TTC last year I wasn't counting my cycles (an error - I wish now I had that data).

The only way to find out is to stop the clomid, but now I'm on it I want to stay on it, at least until I've got my BMI down to 25 again.

Its a bit like lottery tickets - once you start buying them its hard to stop in case the next one is the one!

A dr told you not to ttc just because you werent counting your cycles??

But if you dont know when you ovulate then how do they even know they did the test at the right time in the month? And yes you can have the odd cycle where you just dont ovulate.

If youre on clomid though yeah I guess you may as well continue as it might work?

No, no - the doctors said not to conceive last year becuase I had a serious eye condition that meant I nearly lost my left eye. If I'd got pregnant then it would have accelerated it (having my son in 2010 probably brought it on - its linked to diabetes ladies so no need to worry about this happening to you if you're not a diabetic).

I'd just started TTC before then, but was so depressed (at the time they said I may NEVER be able to have another baby) that I just ignored all my periods and went back on the coil and didn't really think too much about that side of things.

Problem with the clomid is it is messing up my cycles - I bled for a week from days 9-15 last month - so I don't really want to stay on it if it does that again. Also I'd like to know for my own peace of mind if I can ovulate on my own.

Personally I think my weight has a lot to do with it. I put on a lot of weight with my first pregnancy, lost some but then put on a stone in the autumn due to stress. I'm desperately trying to get it down again in the hopes this will regulate my cycle and was doing really well, lost a stone in 6 weeks before xmas, but then xmas came along and...

Who else on here thinks their weight is affecting things. My BMI was nearly 30, now it's about 28.5, but I have a fat tummy which is the worst area to have it!
