Remember no oral sex when infected it can spread very quickly into full blown Herpes
Infact no kissing either.
they are in fact slightly different strains of herpes but can lead to a flare up if the virus of the other is present, as I understand it
but this link might be useful if you are in doubt

Have tried zovirax and it's one of the worst offenders for spreading my coldsores.
Last time I used it the sore spread all the way round my chin :-[
Not very pleasant and very painful.
Once they start spreading, maybe you shouldn't be putting anything on them in case it spreads them further. Go and see the doc!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Bonjela is definiteley a good remedy for coldsores
I used to put aftershave on mine when I was youngerI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Got a coldsore the other day, always seem to get one this time of year on same part of my lip.
A friend recommended dapping TCP on it with a cotton bud, 3 times a day. It is now dead most of the pain left after the 3rd dose of TCP.
The TCP stung abit but you know what they say
"no pain no gain"

Don't get coldsores as such but sides of my mouth split from time to time - usually after the dentist has tried to get his fist in .... ;D
I use Bonjella - stings like crazy. Why do I use it - cause I haven't got anything else.
Aftershave tastes horrible - probably like kissing another bloke - Yuk
Moldy old red wine - sounds more fun and the wife always has a bottle or two on the go - usually by the bed.0 -

Lemon juice. It will sting. Pour some onto a tissue or kitchen towel and leave it on the sore for a few minutes. Do that as often as required until it drys up. Should take a couple of days.0

Try applying a bit of Vick's vapour rub to the area. I was sceptical but tried it anyway and it's fab! Doesn't hurt either. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Coldsores are the herpes family, like chicken pox and shingles.
The sun can cause and outbreak, so a good lip balm with a high SPF is a good idea.
If you get coldcores regularly, it may be due to being run down, I used to get them all the time (and I am a paeds nurse and we are not allowed to work when we have one) so it was a huge nightmare. I have started taking a multi-vitamin and a veggie version of omega 3 and touch wood I haven't had an outbreak in a while.
I also find the zovirax cream rubbish, if you have a serious outbreak (not just one or 2) then I would see your GP and get the zovirax tablets (aciclovir) which are great. Your GP may not be keen as they are pricey. However a serious outbreak shouldn't be ingnored as they can be nasty.
This is what NHS direct have to say on the matter.
