Try t-tree oil. It seems to speed up the healing and take the itch out.

T tree oil worked once then next time I tried it, it spread the sores like billy-o

I've never used Anbesol on coldsores but it is FIRST CLASS for mouth ulcers. Much better than those Rinstead lozenges or gels I used to use. I think you can also use it on teething babies [pause while she walks off and looks - no, sorry the print on the bottle's too small to read without my glasses!]

For coldsores, have you tried Zovirax? It used to be a POM but I think it can now be bought OTC. Expensive, but works well on my husband.

BTW, if you have sufferers from eczema and coldsores in the family are you aware of the dangers of eczema herpeticum? If the coldsore virus gets into eczema it's a very serious situation, must get medical attention.

Have tried zovirax and it's one of the worst offenders for spreading my coldsores.
Last time I used it the sore spread all the way round my chin :-[

Not very pleasant and very painful.

Anbensol & Bonjela are things in the past that I have used for mouth ulcers. Are we sure people aren't getting confused & thinking that you mean a painful ulcer inside your mouth rather than the painful coldsores which usually pop up around the lips & nose area?

I'd be quite shocked if Anbensol & Bonjela could be used for coldsores as I'm certain they would have splashed it all over their packaging by now to get more customers ;D

My mum suffers from coldsores & for ages now at the first sign of a 'tingle' she puts on Zovirax which usually either stops it completely or makes it come out & go faster.

Will be checking back on this thread to see if there are any other ideas (I think mum will like the red wine tip!), as then I can pass them along to her!
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out

Is it a coldsore? After suffering with one recurring in the same place, on and off, for several years, which never responded to Zovirax, discovered that it is actually Shingles. If you have had Chickenpox, it is a possibility - particularly if it doesn't respond to Zovirax as it has a very high success rate with cold sores.

The treatment for Shingles is completely different, see your doctor. :P

Remember no oral sex when infected it can spread very quickly into full blown Herpes

    Infact no kissing either.
'The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
