Coldsore remedy

Cathy, here's one for you....................

Got any remedies for cold sores?
I get them on a regular basis (latest one sprouted this morning) any prescription remedies work only once then next time seem to spread the sores.  They drive me absolutely daft and I kn ow I will never be rid of them so if I could find a homemade remedy it might ease my suffering

By george  I think youll like this one

set aside a small amount of red wine in glass or shallow dish. Cover and let sit overnight. In the morning, take a dampened cotton swab and dip into the congealed wine. Apply lightly to the cold sore  dont eat for 15 mins
Apply every four hours. For best results, do this at the first sign of an outbreak.

    note from mum

Drinking red wine won't help a cold sore

she always was a spoil sport

she says toothpaste works as well but not as good as the wine

    ;D

just rang a cold sorey friend and asked her what she does
she said " I dont get them anymore cos I take L-LYSENE 3 times a day

never heard of it myself but worth a try she recons its the best supplement ever and I know shed suffer with the cold sores a LOT

there is also a bright light / laser treatment being trialled at the moment - I saw it on somthing like this morning or richard and judi - can't remember the name but it seemed like a really good investment for sufferers

I've heard of l lysine before, but I was told that you can't take it for a prolonged length of time as it's not good for you. Anything I've tried before works once then next time I try it, it spreads the coldsores. Does your friend take it all the time Cathy? How does it help her?

Noo, if you can remeber what the treatment was I'd be interested to hear and maybe see if my GP knows anything about it.

rinse your mouth with salt water. Might sting some, but it cleans it and helps.
I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.

If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.

Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?

The Herpes Virus Association are selling a cream called "Lomaherpan" - its an extract of melissa leaves. It's about £8 for a tube. Its had a good write up but since I bought it I've not had one!

I also use Carmex lip balm on mine when they are at the painful stage as it seems to soothe.

Mine is now at the crusty stage! Seems to go that way rather quickly for some reason.

Try t-tree oil. It seems to speed up the healing and take the itch out.
