Have tried zovirax and it's one of the worst offenders for spreading my coldsores.
Last time I used it the sore spread all the way round my chin :-[

Not very pleasant and very painful.

zovirax works every time for me:j don't mind the cost

  • I always seem to get them as it starts to get cold(autumn(now)). Guessing that the perfume and aftershave works by drawing moisture out of the lip forcing the virus back. I heard that the big pharma had a CURE for herpes simplex, but wouldn't release it as they wouldn't be able to sell that ZOV Rubbish. I'm off to get be some proper strong alcohol. isopropyl (which I need for something else anyhow), some tea tree oil, lavender, lemon balm, and dry my lip out, coat it in lip balm with aloe to stop air/water getting in, and failing that use a scalpel to sever the nerve which attaches my brain to my lip.

I know this may sound drastic but I've been single toooooo long and could be on to a winner this weekend and don't want to have to explain why I can't kiss the girl!

Don't worry though, I'm sure I'm not actually onto a winner, but I need to be optimistic about somthing at the mo!

Ive suffered severe cold sores all my life and my lips can swell by three times there normal size. I have to miss work as I look so deformed and dribble constantly. (LOVELY!)

I have also now got the virus in my eye which has caused Iritis.

The only thing I know that can help is strong perfume being dabbed on the cold sore.

There is also a herbal remedy that you can take on a daily basis but I forgot the name - but I am sure your local health food shop will advise.
  • I have seen it claimed in various newspapers that a small machine (costing about £45) can get rid of cold sores!

    Hi everyone,

Sorry, but since this thread was started we have new rules on MSE regarding asking for or giving advice on medical issues. Please see here for more details.

In the meantime, I am going to close this thread and refer it to the team for a decision.
