Yes, you are correct. The two new contracts have indeed started already. My understanding was that the original two contracts would continue on until their natural end and then the two new contracts would kick-in. I have some written (email) detail from CPW about the detail of the new contracts. However, the detail is not sufficient and it is too ambiguous for me to feel comfortable. Therefore I have emailed CPW and telephoned them and instructed, within the 14 day cool-off period, that I do not want to have the new contracts.

I understood that there was a 14 day cool-off period. However, it is now July 8 and I made the agreement on July 3rd and as yet there is no paper evidence of the contract.

I'm really not happy agreeing contracts over the phone. I like things written down as it is so much easier to sort them out before you sign on the dotted line than it is afterwards. CPW promised me that full, written detail would be provided. I expect that any 14 day cool-off period will start as soon as I have seen written details, not as soon as I've had a conversation with them.

I dont think u will get any written details....one guy swore on his life, and his job, that my June bill would be ok........it wasnt.....and of course this is why you dont get it in writing.

I rang up today because my e2save contract ends soon. Pressed the option for PUK and cancellations, the guy asked me what deal I'd seen, I said I wanted to cut my expenditure down (from £45/month) while keeping my current phone. He asked what I wanted to cut it to, so I said about £5. Then he asked how many minutes I wanted, I said I'd heard of people getting 400 mins, he offered me 400 mins and 400 texts for 24 months at £5 straight away, saying he'd call after my final bill is generated so I don't lose any cahback from the original deal.

Since I've never gone over those allowances I'm gonna go for it, thought might ask for WAP when he rings back! I know it isn't money-saving, but getting cashback has proved such a hassle (though they've paid all of them since I followed the ts&c's properly) and this should be much simpler!

He wont ring back and you'll find your new contract has started already....and unless u act now, your final bill will show this, losing u your final cashback...

Yes I think you are right. I will be pursuing it to its conclusion. I mean to ensure that both new contracts are cancelled and that termination on one phone is reinstated so that it terminates on 16 July, and on the second handset I have obtained a DRN and sent that off on 8 July. I will expect that to terminate in just over 30 days, depending on when they acknowledge receipt of the DRN of course.

Exact same as I was offered

Choice of free loyalty bolt ons was 200 mins, unlimited internet, or 600 off peak mins

They didn't say anything to me about the month 2 thing though

My advise is not to use internet in first month.
If you ring them back they will confirm it is from month two.
They say it so fast (while reading out the legal terms and conditions) that you miss this part.I had to ask him to stop and read again as i also missed "month two" bit when he first read it

i think the offer you get depends on the adviser so they wont email or write to you about the exact offer.

When i rang cpw i just hit the record conversation button on my phone, so i have proof of what was offered to me. To be honest though cpw has always come through with what they have said on the phone.

Aug 07 I joined O2 via E2Save on a cash back deal (£480 year contract and £440 cash back value), getting 600mins and 500 texts. I have so far claimed all the cashback that is due to me.

After the 3rd attempt of trying to cancel and them countering offering some deals, Carphone Warehouse's final offer was (on O2) 12month contract, 400 mins and 1000 texts for...... nothing!!

No, not another cash back deal where I have to claim the line rental back in stages. But they reckon they will credit my account with £420 at the start of the contract and my monthly £35 line rent will just eat into that. Apparently I dont pay out anything at all, which sounds suspiciously too good to be true!!
Only down side is that I don't get a new phone, which is what I could really do with. So, to the total surprise of the retentions girl, I refused the deal!!

PS - I too was offered the 18 mth £1.66 eqiv deal as well

If any company offers a deal and their representative is not prepared to put that fully in writing, then you are right to be both uneasy and suspicious about it.

If the company has nothing to lose, then they will be more than happy to write it down for you. To me, it is bizarre that a company like CPW operates at this totally unsatisfactory level.

I'm currently on a 12 month contract (12 month free) I got through CPW through their e2save site.

I called this evening to give my notice, and was offered a choice of the following:

    600 minutes + free 200 minute bolt-on, giving 800 minutes
    1000 texts
12 month contract, 12 months free (via 3 cashback claims)
    600 minutes
    Unlimited landline calls
18 month contract. Total cost £30 after cashback

Both sound good, especially the 12 months one, but I'm just a bit wary of them.

Do people manage to get them to send an email stating the offer in writing ??

    Thanks

They may, if you force them, send you an email. However, the email will then have a disclaimer attached to the effect that the contents of it don't constitute a contract. Also, the contents of such emails do not contain the full details of how the contract will operate, merely the sort of wording that you have listed above.

When I say full detail I mean that it ought to contain:

    a your handset number

b the start and end date of the new contract

c details of any inclusive hardware as well as minutes and texts that are included, and any other service that's inclusive, ie internet

d details of any cashback, when it is to be claimed, the timeframe it must be claimed within, the documents required to support the claims and the address to send the claims to

e an assurance that any cashbacks remaining on an existing contract will be honoured

f details of the termination notice required and where to send that detail

g ideally a full detail of where one can view a full tariff structure

My view is that all of the above, with the exception of g are imperative.
