I've taken out a O2 carphonewarehouse retention deal last week, which is a sim only deal, 10month free(12month contract) by redemption, the loyalty team told me there will be a written proof of the cashback deal and stuff. this morning I received a new sim from cpw, it comes with a receipt saying BT Cellnet Value Telecom GSM upgrade .... Minimum length of contract is 12 mmonths but no cashback details, the package for the new sim card says: "Please note that by inserting the enclosed SIM card into your handset, switching it on and using it, you have signified your acceptance of the T&Cs enclosed and will NOT be able to return..."
The retension person clearly told me the new contract will not start before my current one ends( 6th July to be exact), so can any one tell me if this is normal? or shall I be contacting the Customer service again ?
Thanks in advance0 -

They normally say to ignore the sim as the the contract will continue on your existing sim. If in doubt, contact them through the email form on the CPW website (goes direct to redeptions team) and they will confirm the terms of your offer - despite what they say they do not seem to send out written confirmation (and my written confirmation, now twice after I sought clarification, is slightly different to what I thought would happen for bill 4,8,12 therefore worth getting it in writing from them!).

whom did you speak to ? did you just call 08701117200 or was there anither number that you rang? I would like this deal but not sure whom to speak to ?
I spoke to the disconnections team and intially i told them i don't need any handset and gradually pushed him for 11month free offer. The word with CPW sales team is worthless and straight away speak to cpwo2 disconnections for better deal.0 -

I think to some extent it is better that they do as they do. We then email and get clarification that there is a cashback deal and just have to send off three bills within 60 days.
That makes it harder to fail to comply with such simple T&Cs... :beer:Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
I have just spoken to disconnections and have been offered 275 minutes and 250 texts a month, and a new blackberry curve 8130 for £20 a month over 18 months. (no cashback, cheque back etc) Is that any good do you think or do you think it's worth holding out for more?
They are going to ring me back tomorrow so any advice much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!0 -
I got offered 200 mins, 400 texts, free voicemail and 1MB data for £5 a month on an 18 month or 24 month contract with no phone. Then after 1 month I can have a Bolt on of either another 200 mins, 400 texts, unlimited landline calls, unlimited 02 to 02 calls or unlimited internet.0

One of my mobile 'phone accounts was taken out, in shop, for 12 months, with a new handset, on Carphone Warehouse O2, in October 2006. I negotiated a very substantial cashback on it, upfront (by means of an immediate credit to my debit card). It was a particularly sweet deal, with no claims to submit for retrospective payments. The cashback was in my bank account before I walked out of the shop with the new 'phone.
Eleven months later, I called CPW O2 to give them their 30 days notice of termination. I was offered various deals to continue and I opted for a simple 12 months' airtime, with CPW placing an immediate credit of 11 months' line rental on my account. I made it clear, however, that I was only prepared to contract to this if I received the offer in writing.
Some wrangling ensued but I refused to budge on that condition: I was not prepared to risk the possibility of a subsequent dispute as to exactly what had been agreed by telephone.
Nothing arrived, so, one week later, I faxed a letter to CPW stating that their 30 days notice was running out and that they had better get back to me quickly if the contract was not to lapse.
A further week later (with two still to go) I then rang CPW O2 Customer Services to ask what, if anything, was happening. They looked at the account and advised me that the credit, representing 11 months line rental, had now been placed on the account by CPW.. I asked them to print out this statement of the account and fax it to me.
It arrived and the full credit was indeed showing! I then rang back and formally agreed the 12 month continuance of the account. All has been fine since then.
A couple of days ago, I looked into a CPW shop I was passing and asked them to check what was showing in regard to the date upon which my commitment would expire. (All was still fine.)
This led to a friendly discussion with the manager who told me that since last November - apparently because of the iPhone deal with Apple - all new contracts (for any 'phone) on O2 that are issued by CPW are now direct with O2 and not with CPW O2.
CPW O2 is now, it seems, permitted only to renew and renegotiate existing contracts with customers on O2 CPW and not to initiate any new ones.
It's worth discussing with CPW O2, even mid-term, the new tariffs that came into effect on O2 this year.
I did this yesterday and they switched me from a 2007 tariff to a 2008 tariff at the same monthly rate. This gave me 50% more minutes per month and - most importantly - it qualifies me for the free O2 add-on that gives unlimited Internet access at a maximum cost of £1 a day. This is great if you can use Bluetooth on your mobile 'phone to get your laptop on air!
None of that affects the basic contract; the contract just continues normally until the previously negotiated date of expiry.
Note that the changes don't come into effect until your next monthly billing date - so, be careful not to run up a huge Internet data bill in the meantime, thinking that you're getting it for £1 a day!
You'll also find that having a CPW O2 mobile 'phone account qualifies you for the £5 a month discount on O2 Broadband - so, that's a useful £60 a year saving if you get it set up with O2.
All in all, it's well worth exploring the O2 options if you haven't done so for a while. If you can get some added, free, to your account mid-term, it means that they then have to offer you a further incentive when you come to negotiate your retention deal. They will otherwise try to satisfy you by offering you simply what you could already be getting but are unaware of!
The fact that CPW can no longer issue new contracts on CPW O2 probably means that CPW O2 are now particularly anxious to retain existing customers. If they fail to do so, they will all be out of a job. Bear that in mind when you negotiate your retention deal.
With deals like this available safely, there's really no need to risk buying a 'phone from somebody else who promises to send you a cashback in five stages if you should manage successfully to work out which bills to send them, and when, and provided they don't go bust in the meantime.

A useful and thorough post. Just one thing; cpw O2 contracts taken out from September were switched to O2 direct - long before the iPhone fiasco! I would also strongly advise anyone dealing with cpw or their subsidiaries to follow your example and get written confirmation before trusting anything they tell you.0

Praise indeed, from the Master of the Cashback - who freely gives so much of his time, here, to help people who are prepared to listen. Thanks, MJ.
Everyone who is minded to enter into a cashback deal should read the guide he so kindly wrote and posted in another thread. :A

My contract was about to expire and I contacted Disconnections team on phone to say 'I will like to give 30 days notice to terminate my contract'. No good deals were offered.
So, I sent letter by recorded delivery for termination and asking for PAC code, got a call yesterday and was offered 12 months free line rental (£360 cashback) plus
Extra 50 off-peak minutes with no phone and the cashback can be claimed even at the end of 12 months together rather than sending cashback claim 3 times.
I requested confirmation in writing and got a letter from them which mentions £360 cashback.0
