    Thanks Freebie!
I think i'll start off with 1250 and see how it goes.
Is there anything in particular that you eat that's low cal but actually nice/filling?

Most evenings I make up a bit saucepan of chicken, gravy, potato, onions, carrotts and other veg that I like. Lunchtimes I usually have jacket potatoes. I like Tescos healthy living mediterranean soup in a mug and they are only 74 cals per cup and they really do fill a gap.

    Hi all

Welcome back retiredlady, I hope you had a good holiday - what did you think of Malta?

Well done Rachel - 2lbs! - that's such an achievement when you're so close to your target, I can imagine how motivating that is. The summer is great for healthy snacking - I always have lots of cherry tomatoes and soft summer fruits around. Have you checked out this website - it's quite useful to work out how many calories to eat, ideal weight etc. http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Welcome to the club Sandanista :) - make yourself at home.

Oldgot - I think it's psychological that when we start thinking about losing weight we immediately have cravings for all the things we know we're going to have to avoid! The trick is to allow yourself daily treats (in moderate amounts) so that you don't feel deprived. I've spent the last 7 days being very strict, sticking to my eating plan, and not allowing myself anything 'nice' and now that the week is over, I'm having a very hard time trying to stop myself bingeing :o Once you start losing weight it will give you the motivation and determination to continue - good luck.

Petrichor - if we join forces we might be able to outdo Victory in the monthly challenge :rotfl:

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend everyone.

Reposting this as I added my name to the list and now I notice it's not there - I need all the encouragement/motivation I can get at the moment so think I need to be part of the challenge!

    Hey Freebiehunter,

Yes i did my walk around the estate, phew, i was gonna say never again, but i know its gonna boost my weight loss, i am also thinking of Victory with all the kids walking with her, good on her, but there is NO WAY i would let anyone walk with me, (am a virgin in this department, so don't want people seeing me puffin, and sweating away in my size 16's:rotfl: ). I did it at night. Is twice a week enough?
    TIA

Been for a walk/jog for an hour and am knackered but feel quite good now - endorphins and all that!
Need to work out how many calories that's burnt up now.

Malima - I think that any increase on what you've been doing recently is an improvement - well done on venturing out! Personally, I think 3 times a week is a good start for 30 mins at a time - just stick to our own pace and keep going. The mistake most people make when starting out is to try to go too fast at first, have to give up and get demotivated. What I did was pick a route and try to get a little bit faster each time for the same distance, when you can master this in what you think is a good time try increasing the distance a little bit each time. You don't have to run a marathon for it to make a difference! The benefit is how long you do it for not how fast! Try to keep going, even if its slowly, and you'll see a difference in how you feel afterwards and to your weight loss.

I'll try and find out how many cals etc this burns up - it may be a good motivation!

Going for a sit down now!!

    Using the website
    http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calories_burned.htm
calculates the calories burned for a specific exercise for a specific time. You have to enter your weight and height an dthen it tells you how many cals you've burnt up.
It really is quite good (I'm sure the numbers are only approx as they can't take into account your body frame, amount of muscle/fat you have but its amazing to see what a difference to the weight loss process that a bit of exercise, even just a little bit, can make!)

For example, it reckons that my walk/jog this morning used up over 400 cals!!
30mins of swimming would burn up 210 cals for me.

My plan to go for 1250 cals a day to eat and take at least 2x30mins exercise (easy with having to walk the dog) should certainly help my diet campaign!

May try an exercise dvd later for 30 mins - it says that this will burn between 200-300 cals depending on the intensity.

Well done malima on the walk:D I am a mini celebrity round here, when I get the bike out all the kids gather and run off to ask their mums if they can go round and round the block with 'that lady':rotfl: :rotfl: I was a size 18/16 when I started, cycling is good for you, I drew the line at going swimming as I thought it would be scary for the others to look at:eek: so took up cycling, started off just me and my 6 year old but then word got out that I needed to loose the weight and I was doing it for that all the little girls started joining me (letting me go first bless them) and we went round the estate pied piper style:rotfl:

Pick a lovely sunny day to do it, have the ipod on, set little challenges, like you will go and do a mile and then up it to two miles or do it for 15 mins and then increase to 20 mins, I am on an hour now and started off slow, make sure there is nice scenary to keep you motivated....

Went to the boot fair today and bought Wallis, Warehouse, River Island clothes all for a £1 each all in my size and some of them stuff I would never really think of buying, H says they all look lovely on and so I am well pleased..

Rach I am on 1,200 calories a day, was 1,500, quick and easy lunches are one hard boiled egg with 2 slices of wholemeal bread, tuna salad or cup a slim a soup (60 caloies) with 2 slices of bread.

Having salmon tonight, never used to like it or buy it but now love it.

I make homemade coleslaw that is easy to take to work...

    Welcome sandanista

Lois lane and petrichor you don't have to worry about joining forces, you will beat me this time as my weight loss has slowed right down now!! A colleague at work when I told him I had 7 lb to go, he said 'oh right so 2 more months then' I laughed and said absolutely no way but maybe he is right now at 2 lb a week and then it will be 1lb could be that long to go, I am not worried I will do it 'cause look lovely in my new clothes!!!! xx
