It's amazing isn't how people feel able to comment on something so personal. I'm currently brooding my first and whilst thankfully we had few comments beforehand there have been several since along the lines of 'about time'. I've been with my OH for 7 years and somehow that means we've been slow getting started  I've no idea if we'll have any more after this one as it's making me very ill and I'm sure lots of people will have something to say about that too...

I get double bother- 1 you are 26 and not married
2 you need to hurry up and have a few kids before your are 30.
When i say i am not getting married for atleast another 2 years and am only planning the 1 child due to my medical problems family members and friends stAre in shock like its soemthing illegal. One person actually said but what if you have a girl? The worst was when someone calculated that if i hadmy first at 30 then by the time i ever became a gran i would be a bit too old at 50!I didn't know what to say- its possible to have a child at 43 these days and still be very glamourous and young.

To be honest, one of the (minor) reasons I didn't have kids was because I couldn't guarantee I'd get a girl. There's no way I'd've wanted a boy - they're aliens.
I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.

We have four girls (plus OH has a daughter from his first marriage - so "technically" 5).

I get asked if all my 4 are also my husbands (even the health visitor asked this last week when she came to visit baby).

I am asked a lot about when are we having a boy? The same person will comment a few weeks later that we will have to stop now as 4 are enough.

Yes - we have a small house. Yes - we owe money (paying it back) and yes - only OH works and I stay at home.

But we love our kids. They do not go without anything (that they need - not want!) and they are all well-rounded, intelligent, secure individuals.

Its no-ones business how many kids we may or may not have! (And we would love a boy - but its a big step having another!!!!)

I have two girls - age 9 & 7. This is exactly what I wanted. People always assume "oh dear - are your trying for a boy?". No thanks. I would want a girl again if I wanted more - and there are no guarantees, I don't want to try!

I must admit I have asked people who have one child - when are you having another? - and been put in my place with a list of medical problems, cost of IVF, several miscarriages etc. and felt awful for asking. It shows that people don't always just "not want another" but have suffered a lot of misery in trying - and idiots like me just reminded them of it all!! I have learnt not to be nosy.

We've just had our third son, and we're sick too, of "is this it now?" "oh, what a shame it's not a girl"etc

No, it's not a shame, we have 3 beautiful, healthy sons, where's the shame in that?

If "pink" had descended on our house, then that too would have been wonderful.

In answer to the OP though - as many as you both want, can look after and afford.

I have 2, a 2 yr old and a new baby who's 8 weeks old. I'm only 21 and people always assume they weren't planned. They weren't.. but it's not nice to be judged.
