How many children?....
Comments

We've got 4: 2 girls, 2 boys. Although DS1 counts as 3 kids as he is a bit 'hyper', oh and DD2 is totally insane, and 7 year old is going on 17...and baby eats all my newspapers, but apart from that, they are all quite normal....

I've got three. I had one of each for births one and two and people do assume you will stop at that and anything more is an accident! Always wanted three but when number 3 did I arrive I got broody instantly for a 4th (which I didn't expect!). It's subsided now he's got a touch of the terrible 2s!!MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000

I tell everyone I have four kids then wait for the look of shock on their face! I also enjoy the look of confusion that some give me when if I'm with my step-kids as because of my race, they are obviously not biologically mine but you can see some people thinking "Does he realise they can't be his?!!?!?!"
But in my mind, my OH's kids are just as much mine, so I have four.
Money is of course tight and you don't realise how much life is geared towards two kids until you have more than two. Just daft things like Mcdonald's now is an expensive affair and foreign holiday's in effect would mean 2 single parent holiday's because not many places will take four kids so the cost becomes astronomical.0 -
I think people will comment no matter how many / what the sexes of children you have
We have 2 sons
Eldest almost 11 from a previous relationship
and the youngest almost 5 with my husband
People always assume we will want another to, "try for a girl"
we have 4 nieces lol so thats ok
Plus as a nanny I get to be around babies / children and look after them without all the sleepness nights etc

I am only 28 so we may or may not try for another
Sometimes i think awww yes it would be nice then i think  no way lol
If we dont have any more, then by the time our youngest is 20 we will still "only" be 430 -
I have 2, DD 4 and DS nearly 2. I'm happy with that.
I hated being pregnant and I put on too much weight so I was uncomfortable constantly.
DH has had the snip!

I find that more and more people that are currently in their 20s and 30s are more receptive to the idea when I say I am quite happy with just the one. I seem to be finding that it is people of the older generation, especially my parents age where people have commented above, it was perfect if you had 2 children and managed to get one of each. My MIL has especiallly voiced her opinions on it, which makes me laugh as she has only one brother and they don't speak or get on! Which reinforces the fact that when people say one child will be lonely - who is to say that 2 will get on?! She has commented before now about "someone she knows" trying for another baby because this other person "knows it is cruel to only have one" which I am sure is a dig at me
My little girl is an apparent angel compared to other children that we know of the same age and I know that it is about how you bring them up but I think we have been blessed with a very placid easy going child and I am not sure we would be so lucky again.
It sounds so selfish to say it but we are just getting to the stage where we can do things as a family together. We are quite an active family and like going out and we are just starting to enjoy ourselves as a trio and two dogs. I want to be able to afford nice holidays, luxuries for the three of us and be able to afford to give the one I have everything she wants (not in a spoilt way obviously) because you only live once and you are a long time dead. I never had the option of going to college or university when I was younger as my parents could never have afforded it, they divorced in my GCSE year and everything fell to pieces so I went out and got a job, I would like to think that I could afford if poppet decided she wanted to be a brain surgeon and go all the way through schooling, I could help support her - if we carried on producing, we wouldn't be able to. I never left our country until I was 18 and paid for it myself, my parents have said themselves that they struggled at times and we had great holidays in a caravan in Bognor :rotfl: But it is a very big world and I would like us to see it and enjoy it
Phew - rant over, I feel much better now thank you for your replies and for listening! I'm not sure whether it has come across quite how I mean it as when I read it back it seems really selfish and I am not a selfish person but I need to get it off my chest
