We are both in London. She's in Kennington - she could have walked there. She has a boyfriend and plenty of friends to go with (they were all apparently dropping hints about getting the other ticket)!
Strapped for cash and desparately needing the money, I could have understood. This was just an £80 windfall to spend on 'stuff'.0 -
OP how sad you have been used like this.
I can understand how you feel.
Oh well, lessen learned.0 -

It just gets worse... at least you've found out now and won't be wasting any more time or effort on presents for her.0 -

Oh okay - that does seem a bit odd then.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
Yes, I'd be annoyed. In fact, given the fact she specifically asked for a certain show I'd be wondering whether it was a calculated attempt to acquire the highest face value tickets to cash in for the most money.0

I'd be livid tbh. Considering she is now technically an adult I'd also stop the pressies now anyway, other than something for her 21st, and that would be a small something after she's just pulled that stunt on you!Grocery challenge July £250

I really think that the OP should have a quiet word with the GD regarding her behaviour. After all, the role of a Godparent (with or without the religious element) is to guide and help the young person, something that the GD's own mother doesn't seem to be doing.0

If I'd been in the position of the god-daughter and realised I couldn't go or changed my mind about wanting to see the show, I would have spoken to my godmother, told her and offered her the tickets back. It would then have been down to the godmother to decide what should happen.
This is what should have happened and what the mother should have told the teen to do.
TBH she would just get a card next year and if she complained I would say you had the extra last year when you cashed in your "special" present you requested.

I can see why your annoyed. It wasn't things she needed eg it wasn't text books for her course or even to pay for driving lesons. It was stuff as you say.We did speak and I did ask her why she had suddenly changed her mind about the show. Her response was that she still wanted to see the show, but then she thought of all of the things that she could spend the money on and so cashed them in instead. I said 'such as..?' and she replied 'I got a CD, some make-up, you know...just stuff'.
Thinking about it thru her eyes. She's 19, the family doesn't have lots of money. She perhaps feels that she misses out perhaps in not having a bottle of perfume for her nights out with her mates or they have a better brand make up, she'd love a CD of her favourite artist. All of a sudden she has the potential to have these things by flogging the tickets you give her. She gives no thought to the fact that you are treating her in order for her to see a show, she just sees that instead of having one night at the theatre, she can have these things she's previously lacked. She's also given no thought to you only spent the amount you did because it was to see a show. If she'd said to you when asked well I'd really love a bottle of <whatever> or certain brand make up or a CD. I should imagine you would have bought within your budget something she'd mentioned, but you wouldn't have been buying her £80 worth. As a student working part-time, money is tight and although the family is not exactly skint, there isn't a lot to go around.
Yes, it's having different values.I don't think this is a 'right or wrong' situation. It's just a different view.0
