She would be grounded and barred from any money at all if i was mum ;)

If you know this `friend` who gets the tobacco i`d be having a word with her parents or her directly if need be.

Hope she stops a 14yr old child ruining her body :(

I have spoken to her today (yesterday i think was a bit of a sheephead day !)and she has said "i am going to stop)so i asked why now and she has said

    "Its stupid" !

"I want to as i am getting my braces" ( her friend has shown her how dirty hers are as she smokes) !

And she also said "if you inhale to much you risk lung cancer and if you dont you risk mouth cancer"no idea where she has got this maybe shes looked it up but hopeing its something shes given thought to.

She has asked to still get her pocket money if she shows what shes spent it on so we have said yes.

Might seem abit silly but like oh said if we are to harsh it might just make things worse. So will see how that goes (not accepting any excuses of lost receipt etc though ;)

I would really like to ground her i really would but i think it will just make things worse (trying massively to be an understanding parent ) she is a good girl most of the time (had her moments).

I dont know exactly who she gets it off (her friend gets it from the same person i think)i feel tempted to tell her friends mum she smokes but know the friend has given her foster parents problems in the past so not sure if i should go there.:(

Does your daughter know that cigarettes are tested on animals?
This researcher "subjects pregnant monkeys to cigarette smoke for six hours each day, five days a week. After birth, when the infants are ten weeks old, they are killed by lethal injection and their lungs are dissected for analysis."
    http://www.change.org/petitions/ida-tell-the-nih-to-stop-testing-nicotine-on-animals
Cutting holes in beagles' throats through which the dogs are forced to breathe concentrated cigarette smoke for a year.
Inserting electrodes into dogs' penises to measure the effect of cigarette smoke on sexual performance.
Strapping masks to the faces of rats and monkeys and permanently restraining them to force them to breathe cigarette smoke constantly.
Forcing dogs to be on mechanical ventilators and chronically exposed to cigarette smoke.
Restraining Rhesus monkeys in chairs with head devices and exposing them to nicotine and caffeine to determine how caffeine and nicotine affect breathing.

animals are forced to breathe cigarette smoke for up to six hours straight, every day, for as long as three years. Animals naturally avoid breathing cigarette smoke, so lab rats are forced into tiny canisters, and cigarette smoke is pumped directly into their noses. In the past, dogs and monkeys have had tubes attached to holes in their necks or have had masks strapped to their faces to force smoke into their lungs.

If you make her anxious that she may not go on the school trip, that may make her want to smoke all the more.
Have you thought about a positive reward? A manicure after 14 days smoke free.
She puts smoking money saved into a pot and if still smoke free after a month, you will add 25%. 2nd month 50% and so on. I'm sure others here will come up with better than that, but I am thinking gain for her rather than deprivation.
How about contributing to her teeth being whitened when the brace comes off? Saving as of now.
Also, why has she turned away from her old friends, the ones who tend to stay in?

    That is disgusting :(
Its already known the effects on humans so why keep doing this ?
Thankyou for the links one of them didnt work (care 2 .com).
    Depressing isnt it :(

I asked dd if she knew about testing and she said they have just started doing it at school (although it wouldnt surprise me if this isnt mentioned :().

I will keep these links in mind but am wary of overloading her where she will let it just go over her head. !

But thankyou for taking the time to post :)

Shes not anxious (in fact shes pretty casual about it)!

Seems to be acting like its easy to stop and no big deal i asked her tonight if she felt tempted and she said no !

So we are going to play it by ear at the mo i dont want to make it bigger if she thinks it isnt ;)

Her friends she mixed with a while ago stay in and she says "theyre boring"sooner she was with them but not alot we can do about it.

As teens brains aren't fully developed they will higher risks, boys more than girls. They just assess risk in a different way to us, which is why teenage drivers are far more likely to have accidents. It is scientifically proven that they will be more likely take risks than adults.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-452390/Immature-brains-make-teenagers-bad-drivers.html

This is one article, I know it's the daily mail, but hey ;)

Because the brain isn't fully developed until 25 they will see things differently to us. what we may percieve as them being stupid by smoking, you can be guaranteed they will definitely see it differently to you. Teenagers have always taken risks, even when they are aware of the dangers. I did anyway - it certainly explains why I wouldn't do things now, that I did when I was 16.
