As far as the HDMI thing goes, the better quality HDMI cables are worth having.

If you're connecting something 5 meters or less then the cable quality impact is going to be minimal and probably un-noticeable.

Also A lot of crumby HDMI cables either are not certified by the HDMI standards/licensing and can cause issues (Most issues are resolved either by the source or the destination device.).

But over 5M or wiring in wall or future proofing cables the more you pay for a better quality cable, the less issues and better picture quality you'll have.

The facts are if a HDMI cable works it works, there is no difference in picture quality. Yes it's worth paying a little more if you want the long ones, but not the stupid prices they charge in the major stores.

There's no difference in an expensive HDMI cable and a cheap one, they carry Binary Code, if the signal gets through, it gets through.

A scientific test proved a £1.50 cable was as good as a £100+ cable.

Shops just sell the super dupper expensive cables as snake oil

    Please link to your evidence.

    Heres mine

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

To start with, yes there are different classifications to the cables and standards so a £1.5 might not even be HDMI rated or classified, that £100 probably is and has a certificate to prove it (hence some associated cost).

I further went on in my post to state that 5M and under you're more than likely fine with anything and everything. Longer than that it's worthwhile spending more to guarantee what you want.

HDMI cables have no processors and are in effect a conduit for a series of ones and zeros aka Binary Code. The ones and zeros either get through or they don't, a better quality cable will not ensure the ones and zeros are get from the source to the receiver in a better standard. They simply deliver the ones and zeros.

I never lied to a customer about the difference in a HDMI cable. I sold the cables based on their own merits.

The fact that the cables had better insulation, the fact that they were rated by the HDMI standard the fact that the actual cable was of higher quality.

I never once said it would give you a better picture or a worse picture.

Like I've said, if you don't want it then don't get it. You can freely come into Dixons or John Lewis and view your TV then purchase it online. If you don't want to hear a sales pitch because you think we are trying to con you then purchase your products online - otherwise you can't blame a salesperson for doing a job.

Yes, if they blatantly lie then it's wrong - I agree. Its people like that who ruin the name of the industry for us good hard working people. As a person who has worked in sales almost all my life I take pride in my work, I build a rapport with customers, in fact some of the best conversations of my career have been with customers who have low-margin sales. Yes there are people who ruin it, the same with every industry.

You see a lot of bad press about the banking sector, that doesn't mean every person who serves you is a sleezy money stealing banker does it?

I have worked in PC World, very recently actually.

As none of us were there at the time we can't say what actually happened, while I admit it seems that the salesperson didn't tell the full story of the agreement, none of us can be certain of anything other than the salesman and the OP.

Just because you may not agree with the contract doesn't mean its not right for everyone.

As for the HDMI cables, its no secret that they make companies profit, I work for another retailer now (John Lewis) and even THEY sell expensive HDMI cables.

Companies exist to make money, if they don't make money they don't exist. If you don't want to purchase a HDMI cable from Dixons, Comet, Best Buy, John Lewis or anyone else because you think they are expensive then don't. No one is forcing you to.

It's like when you purchase insurance for your car and the salesman tries to get you to take all the extras - breakdown cover e.t.c. They do that to make money, you're not REQUIRED to take it.

So you know nothing about computers then...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

    an update:
spoke to the pc world maager yesterday he said he phoned rentsmart and the contract can not be canceled!!
he said pc world will pay for the laptop at the end of the contract (about £60) and he will put that into writing on friday when he is next in.
I have said that with the problem of having a customer going in to buy a laptop with the bank card and get sold a contract and told that is a better deal is bad customer service. I also said I had been into another store and they doing the same thing, so it is a nation wide trainning problem.
I said that as my mom has already paid the cost of the laptop and 1 year whateverhappens how about the rest of the contract free.
He said he will email head office and will get a reply by friday as to what can be done.

It is nationwide but its not a training issue. Training issues don't last for 3 years. That's when I was conned into Rentsmart and they're still spawning the same lies.

They lie to you. It's as simple as that. They do it to get a sale. No if's or but's about it. It's just a con which has probably been ok'd by the PC World managers so that the reps sales = store sales = performing stores = bonuses + stores remain in business for more sales.
