By a proper Insurance Company regulated by the FSA, providing a guatantee of payment of your claim through FSCS and access to the Ombudsman. Or is it some ropey tax avoidance trust that provides none of these or is it by some off shore Insurance company again offering none of the above?

...then give 0844 561 1234 (local rate) a call and they will find it for you.
What do you understand a 'local rate' call to be?

I thought 'local rate' and 'national rate' were terms that disappeared some years ago.

Suggest the OP looks in SayNoTo0870 for a free or geographic phone number.

Your "MOM" received a contract outlining exactly what the agreement was, what more documentation does she need. As another poster mentioned so much time has elapsed it would be near impossible to prove that she was in any way misled into thinking she was purchasing the laptop rather than buying. Regardless, it's entirely your mum's fault for not checking the paperwork carefully at the time when taking out such an agreement.

Corrected that for you, as Mom is perfectly acceptable local dialect in the UK and in no way an Americanism. Just because in your part of the country they don't say it doesn't mean its incorrect. Putting "Mum" in speech marks to imply OP does not know how to correctly spell a regional term of endearment or is using an Americanism is a little presumptuous I feel.

Rentsmart Cover Loss, Fire, Flood and Theft. Accidental damage is covered under the Whatever Happens Care Plan.

It varies based on your provider. In fact, if you have a Whatever Happens Agreement (which in this case the OP would) its 0800 587 8787

Mom is a generally accepted American term. I have lived both sides of the Atlantic. Where in the UK is mom used more often in a local dialect over mum?

OK, do you know any provider that publishes a 'local rate'?

Thank you for the 0800 number.
That is a good moneysaving tip.

Did a quick Google Search for BT http://community.bt.com/t5/Phones/How-much-do-calls-cost-to-0844-numbers/td-p/348503

You should note that the 0800 number is for support agreement related queries such as to renew, cancel Whatever Happens, and for the Remote Connection

"Whatever Happens" is not a backed by an Insurance Company so cannot be called Insurance. It's a backed by a trust that DSG run and pay some of the money they collect into.

There's no guarantee you will get your claim paid as if DSG go bankrupt or run low on money there is no separate Insurer to guarantee the claim.

They're not regulated by the FSA which means the Currys sales staff do not have to follow certain procedures when selling cover. Customers do not have their claims guaranteed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and customers do not have access to the Ombudsman.

Currys arrange it this way to save themselves millions in tax to the detriment of their customers who forego the protections they would have from an Insurance Policy arranged by someone regulated by the FSA.

It's a "Service Plan" not an Insurance Policy, two very very different things.

I assume Rentsmart's part is also not Insurance backed due too their lack of providing details of what's covered and whats not etc etc.

Considering the amount DSG save by their tax avoidance and avoiding the FSA, payments to the Ombudsman and FSCS they should be able to offer the cheapest warranties in the UK. Strange they are among the most expensive
