Sounds like your Mum got caught by the Rentsmart scam at PC World, do a search for Rentsmart on the forums to find out more.

thankyou very much, she has just gone to the pc world manager he said to speak to the rental company (rentsmart)
and she does not own a business

If it is a Rentsmart agreement and not a Infinity, then at the end of the lease you can offer to purchase the item outright at Auction style prices (usually very, very cheap)

    Deal with what?
    Doing what?

You (your mother) have another year rental left to pay.

Is there anything in that agreement about early termination?

Here is a lengthy thread on Rentsmart which may help you.

if you look at post 40 on that thread it really says it all.
We feel that pc world are doing this just to make a quick buck and yes my mom is in the wrong for not reading the contract, but pc world are too for treating as a business customer and she is not. also rentsmart is at fault for not confirming any details and not sending any comunication at all. My mom stated that she wanted to buy a laptop not rent 1. she did not evan know you could rent a laptop she she assumed she was buying one as the assistant never mentioned thet it was to be rented only

The forum has quite a few examples of people being misled by PC world staff after their commision on these sales. Get off your high horse.
And it's also full of people not reading or understanding the terms & conditions of contracts they have taken out!

Your "mum" received a contract outlining exactly what the agreement was, what more documentation does she need. As another poster mentioned so much time has elapsed it would be near impossible to prove that she was in any way misled into thinking she was purchasing the laptop rather than buying. Regardless, it's entirely your mum's fault for not checking the paperwork carefully at the time when taking out such an agreement.

The only thing I can advise is to write to all the companies mentioned on this thread earlier. Let as many people know exactly what has happened to you.

Send a letter to PCWorld HQ and the PCWorld store you "bought" the item from. Send the same letter to Rentsmart and trading standards Hertfordshire.

There are far too many people told the exact same lies (me included) for this to be a mistake on the PC World advisors behalf.

Also inform watchdog as I already have and your local CAB. The more you spread this word the more it is brought to the attention of the authorites.

Hope you get a decent outcome and be prepared for a long, drawn out battle.

I take it you were incapable of reading the agreement as well then, or let me guess you didn't bother. ;)
