watching a friend die

I'm so sorry for your loss, this is such a sad story. Your friend was lucky to have you in his life, especially as his own family seem to be a complete bunch of ***** you can fill in the blanks for yourself. At least he had you to look out for him Jim, i'm sure that was a comfort to him.
RIP Jim's friend:(:A

I am just really glad that I saw him on Thursday. He had nodded off when I went round and I woke him up and we chatted about the usual stuff and I told him what I had been up to and about work- just like old times. After half an hour I left him as he got tired very quickly and his voice isn't as good as it once was.
When I got home I emailed his sister to say that I thought he was doing a lot better, I had last emailed when he first returned home explaining that I didn't think it was safe for him as one fall would be the end and he should be in a home. It was quite an angry ranting email (not directed at his sister, just about the situation overall) and I felt a bit guilty so I penned a new more positive one on Thursday- how wrong and right I have been.
I know another neighbour saw him on Thursday as well, I don't know if anyone was with him this morning at the hospital, I know that some family members were asked to get to the hospital and he died about 25 minutes later. I am pretty sure that he just lost the will to go on. You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family. Thanks for everyone's kind words, appreciated.0 -
I am so sorry to read your news, particularly as your friend seemed to be getting to accept and enjoy a quality of life again.
I recall from this thread some previous incidents when things went missing some months ago, and suggested the family might have been behind that. Sorry to hear that one of them was.
At least you have some good memories of your friend. Condolences for your loss.0 -

Jim, sorry to hear of the loss of your friend but as others have said I am certain his life was a lot better since you came into it. It is so true you can pick your friends but it is a real pity that you cannot pick your family.
RIP Jim's friend.0 -
I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I have no doubt you made a huge difference and your friendship and care would have given a new richness to his life. Keep that in mind whenever you remember your friend. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0
