watching a friend die

Jim, that is so sad to hear. He was lucky to have such a caring neighbour. You're right, you can't choose your family but he sounds like he had some caring friends at least."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Really sad news Jim, I haven't posted on here before but kept up to date with the thread. I think you should be comforted by the fact that you were a good friend to him and that he enjoyed your company. If more people were like you the world would be a much better place. Take care, Boo0

I have been following this thread and all I can say is, I am so sorry Jim!
Please put out of your mind that your friend 'fell over' deliberately. I very much doubt an elderly person would do that - no matter what their frame of mind! they wouldnt be sure that it wouldnt involve another lengthy stay in hospital! It must have been an accident!
I can understand your anger - but, please reign it in when talking to family. be discreet hun - guilty people like to point the finger elsewhere and as I said before.........you also had access to his home. I know you only ever tried to help him but, do be careful about what you say about family members.0 -
I've calmed down a bit today (a midnight walk helped clear my head). What is done is done and I can't change anything, so I am back to usual cool calm and collected person now.0

My neighbours and I are going to the funeral today. I have received several phone calls from family members thanking me for all the care that I gave my friend over the years and how they are looking forward to thanking me in person today.
It should be an interesting afternoon.0 -
Probably they will be thanking you more out of guilt than anything else. You proved yourself a true friend right to the end and for that you should be proud of yourself.0

I hope the funeral went smoothly, and I'm so sorry for your loss.
What a good person you are, Jim. True gent!

Jim, I'm saddened for you at your friend's passing - you have been a true, decent, loving companion. I do believe 'what goes around, comes around...' and your kindness will come back to you. Those that should have done more/cared more will also reap what they sow.0
