  • I have statements from as early as 1997 showing excess overdraft charges. Can I claim these back?
  • Hi,

    I'm also reclaiming from Natwest. They sent me 4.5 years worth of statments instead of 6 years but that's another story...will be chasing them of course.

    Like 'tsotd', I have a few cases of 'Charges' which don't seem to relate to anything in particular e.g.:

    '28 Feb Charges 02FEB A/C xxxxxxxx 28.00'

    Does anyone know what these 'Charges' refer to and can I claim them?

    Ta.

    Ps - MSE is seriously excellent - what more to say...thanks Martin!

    Judging by the amount and the date of the charge I would say it is relating to a transaction on the 2nd Feb and that it is claimable. Service charges (the ones you can't claim) generally are a lot less so tag it on - the worse they can do is knock it off ;)
    Got It & Spent It :dance:
    IKEA CARD = £120 charges = £175 received (146%)
    MARBLES = £450 charges = £370 received (82%)
    I.F. = £494 charges = £494 received (100%)
    CAPITAL ONE = £981 charges = £1,489.03 (152%)
    BARCLAYCARD = £580 charges = £786.12 (136%)
    On Hold :mad:
    A+L = £722 charges (target = 147%)
    BARCLAYS = £1,405 charges (target = 128%)
    BARCLAYS = £175 charges (target = 140%)
    ABBEY = £3,220 charges (target = 148%)

    you can only claim 6 years from the date of your first letter requesting they be paid back :( so thats anything from 8th July 2001 if you wrote today.

    hi, my first post so please be nice.

    ive got my 6 years of statements from natwest (it only took them 9 days from the date i sent the first letter asking for them) anyway a question about the charges.

    on one of the statements its got the following -

    20 sep 2002 - charges - 19 copy statment - £47.50

    can i claim this £47 back? £47 is alot of pennys for some statments when the 6 years worth only cost £10 and theres alot more than 19 pages of it.
    also

    ive got a charge that pops up now and again but i dont know what it is, it looks like this -

    18 oct 2002 - charges - 06oct A/C xxxxxxxx - £39
    (account no)

    this "charge" ranges from £6 to £39, what is this "charge" and can i claim it back?

    thanks

    The £47 is, unfortunately, a service charge so you can't claim that. Copy statement are expensive, thats why Martin's request letter requests it in the manor it does which only costs £10 in total not £10 per statement.

    Like jupesingh's charge, it appears to be relating to a transaction around the 6th October. From the amount, I would say its a penalty rather than a service fee, so claim it back ;) unless they tell you whats its for (don't ask them wait for them to tell you) then just add it on :rotfl:

    Hi all

    This is my first post, just adding up my charges now but want to clarify something.I know i can claim the o/draft excess fee but can i claim the interest on that fee? i.e
    O/DRAFT EXCESS FEE £20 O/DRAFT INTEREST £1.50

    Then charge 8% on top once i have added them all up?

    Thanks - Bubbly:p

    Yes to O/DRAFT EXCESS FEE
    No to O/DRAFT INTEREST

    Then 8% from the time of the charge to the time the bank pay out (but only if you are planning on taking it to court)

    Don't accept offers of less than 80% of your total charges because if you take it to court you will be awarded 100% + 8% interest + court costs.

    Remember that 8% interest over 6 years (6*8) equals 48% so its worth adding it on!

    Hi mate, I have an account with Natwest & service charges for the likes of Disadvantage Gold vary from £6 to £12, anything above that is them swindling money from us! So yes request your £47.50 back & also any other charges, as you say it cost £10 for all your statements so clearly they took the Pee with that figure! Boy I bet they never did this to so many people

    I have an account with Yorkshire and have just received my back statements. I noticed lots of unauthorized overdraft fees, £8 every day until the overdraft is cleared. I was just wondering if i can claim for these? Any help would be appreciated.
