What charges you can claim

No as they would be a service fee, ie you are being provided with a service such as setting up your dd although I have never heard of a charge for this.0

northern bank used to charge for setting up and cancelling DD .Only recently stopped this charge .0

ah foreigners
I'd still say no as it is a service they are providing albeit you have to pay for it similar to asking for a bankers draft or paying for a CHAPS transfer.0 -
HSBC has recently sent me my last 6 years' bank statements (and returned my £10 cheque!). I've gone through them and I haven't paid as much as I thought I had, but each instance on the statement is listed simply as "CHARGES UP TO [DATE]". There are instances of £18, £27.50, £36, £54 and £72. Can I claim for the lot?0

Hi all
I have spent over 2hours this morning trying to find a simple explanation to the Abbey National bank statement codes or abbreviations.
I've read this forum and noticed a few other people with the same problem as me.
According to the British Bankers Association:
"There are no standard codes used; your bank will have devised its own"
My search started at Abbey Nationals own site(s), which would be obvious, & 2hrs later here I am BEGGING my fellow financial revolutionaries to help LOL.
A little background:
I sent of the 1st letter for 6 years charges. I recieved back to 2004 with the letter saying "pre 04 will follow shortly". After phoning them last week I recieved the microfische printouts of my statements back to 2000.
So.... along with abr/code I worked out, there are debits listed as INT DEBIT. Some are pennys others are £20/£30.
So what I need help with:
Explanation of the codes. It would be really helpful if there was a place on this site for ALL BANK CODES, as they differ from bank to bank, but in the meantime just help me me me! LOL.
Obviously I need to know if I can add this to the charges I intend to apply for.
Thanks in advance for your help.I've used M.S.E to sort out my debts,my savings, my insurance, my LIFE.

If you haven't received all the information you require in an intelligible format within 40 days of them receiving your Subject Access Request, report the matter to the Information Commissioner by clicking here. However, his staff are as inundated with complaints as the banks’ and credit card companies’ are with SAR’s.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

Mini statements from cash machines sometimes list transaction abbreviations on the back.
Have you checked your statements to see if there is a list of abbreviations and meanings on the back?
INT DEBIT looks like it could mean interest debited, as it is in different smaller amounts.0 -
Thanks for the advice, but the statements from 2004 have no info on them as they are very brief. These copies I've just recieved (pre 04) are literally micro fishe prints with a small list on 1 side of a4.
I found some abbreviations on an older version of the statements (01) with a list of abbreviations on the back, but INT DEBIT (IDB) is not on it.
Thanks anyway, i'll continue the search and post up any info.

I've just found a really old 'Statement of Charges' document I thought I lost (this is why I requested them from Abbey).
Anyway it says on it:
Total Unauthorised Overdraft Charges - £16.50
Total Charge for Items Returned Unpaid - £30.00
Total Debit Interest - £17.62
So does this mean the INT DEBIT on my statement is interest on the charge?
If so, that's crazy. i have to check the list again because on my statements from 04-present there were none of these charges listed on the table they sent me.
Confused or what.I've used M.S.E to sort out my debts,my savings, my insurance, my LIFE.
