*I still buy one can of soup a week to take to work for lunch- I tried taking homemade but I can't seem to find a container that ensures it doesn't leak all over my bag. I have to say though that the soup is REVOLTING and if anyone has any tips as to what containers to buy then I'm all ears! Isn't it funny how your tastebuds change when you go OS?

I have solved this one by freezing the soup. I take the solid block to work with me - not able to leak - then I defrost and heat in the microwave a work.

I ocassionally buy bread or rolls if i run out of time, but normally i do use my BM.
I buy jam - do make my own sometimes.
I buy supermarket meat - yellow stickered only.
I love my HM soup, but my children dont, so i do buy tomato and oxtail (which is great in a stew if you dont have any gravy to add)
    I buy fabric conditioner.
I colour my own hair, yes, i know this is OS, but i dont actually need to, i just like to change colour every now and again!!!
    I dont like microfibre cloths!!!!

edited to add - i also buy clinique (on bonus time, use it cos i have really sensitive skin, and anything else brings me out in a rash), and use Calvin Klien 'euphoria' perfume.

TKP - i also buy baked beans, although i did find a recipe to make them, but havnt tried it yet!!!!

  • Re : cheap fish and chips

We live just outside Birmingham and have quite a few takeaways near us. They must all compete for business and our local favourite does a fab *mini* (should be called massive!) fish and chips for £1.30 each - each portion is really big, so my two youngest share one portion.

My eldest doesn't like fish so she has chicken and chips - in a box for £1.00.

We share a pot of curry sauce for 60p so there you go £5.50 for five!!!

When my SIL visits from Worcester they always want fish and chips and when I go to theirs I really refuse to buy take-aways from anywhere. Round here I can feed the whole family for what is costs there to buy food for one person!!!

You're all welcome anytime for fish and chips - I can afford it around here!!

I'm an on and off smoker, keep trying to quit, but do use rollies so probs more OS than some

I have to still buy some pre made stuff for DS as he won't eat many things, like the pasta in sauce where you add water, it's the only pasta he'll eat, waffles and oven chips as he'll only eat potato like that. Fish fingers, tried home made, refused them. Unfortnately having Autism he's tricky to change.

I also buy bread even though I have a BM for those who refuse to eat it, inc DS1. I've completely given up on making bread rolls as family will only eat soft ones and mine come out harder than they like. I'll eat them but they won't.

I still buy more biscuits than I make, but in defence have stopped buying cakes and make all those. I also buy more fresh juice than I make, Tropicana or other freshly squeezed only won't buy from concentrate stuff. It's cheaper than buying the fruit when it's on offer.

I've only used my dehydrator 3 times since buying it, same with my slicer, I must use these gadgets more often!

I may write the flylady thread at the minute but I don't always complete my own lists :o

I use Virgin Vie facial cleansers, toners and moisturiser, bloomin' expensive but I don't use much and request them for Xmas, birthdays etc. Same with my perfume.

I couldn't give up my car, I love driving, but I have reduced how much I use it, I am in the process of modifying it to use more off road. Kids and DP also have very non OS hobbies like quad biking etc.

I also use Bold, but much less than I used to, so can defend that.

I wish I had a cleaner, dishwasher, oven cleaning person etc etc

I do sometimes get a takeaway but we also have a cheap local chip shop, and it keeps local businesses running :o well that's my excuse anyway.
One day I might be more organised...........

Competition is great or us buyers isn't it:D

I used to live in London, but I actually find Surrey more expensive for most things than London, simply because of the lack of competiton.

Nail bars around here are nearly £30 a set, but because there are so many competing for business in London they are cheaper.
As you say takeaways, another example. Everything is very expensive here.
Perhaps the only thing cheaper in Surrey is insurance (car & home)!!!
I drive but my daughter doesn't, normally she doesn't need buses but when she does the price of them is shocking:eek: .

If I lived near a fish & chip shop like that, I would be in there at least once a week:j

You REALLY couldn't make it at home for that

My goodness I may be more OS than I thought, there I was thinking you all were making your own jam, bolognese sauce and using vingear for everything but chippy chips, cause they are not OS!;)

    I confess to:

Having Chicken Nuggets in the Freezer (Only Birds Eye)
Having a shop bought pie in the Freezer
Having tinned soup in-my daughter loves tomato soup, but I hear its quite difficult to make, although I make other varieties.
Using jars of sauces cause if I use too many pots & pans they don't fit in the dishwasher and I hate washing up.
    I hate microfibre cloths.

    Although I

    Don't have a microwave
Don't buy any type of expensive cream for my face/body
Don't buy expensive shampoo or conditioner
    Don't go on Foreign holidays
    Colour my own hair.

Gosh I am going to give myself a star...I'm very happy now, I may be os after all.:T
