What's your non OS guilty secret?

    My non-OS guilty secrets are:

I like to shop at Waitrose occasionally - I find the fruit and veg so much better quality

I always buy my meat from the local butcher and the fish from the travelling fishmonger as it's fresh off the trawlers that morning

I only buy organic chicken from a certain supplier at a farmers' market

I always use the tumble drier - we're on the main flight path for all the local ducks so it would cost more if I hung the washing out

The heating is always on in my bathroom - partly for comfort and partly due to the fact it smells funny if we don't heat it

I've made homemade wine, but far prefer the shop bought stuff
I go through Yankee Candles like they're going out of fashion

In my defence of all of this frivolity, I've stopped buying bed linen rom John Lewis and now buy it from Ikea - 100% cotton and a fraction of JLs price. All of my washing powders, tablets, liquids are always bought on special offer. My wine is always the expensice stuff reduced to half price or better. All of my food is made from scratch every day ad I bake my own bread, cakes and biscuits.

    T xx

Me too :o I live very close to a Yankee outlet store and I very often take advantage of their special offers ... In my defence, the house smells wonderful, but I am a little addicted. I also live close to a Le Creuset outlet centre and I seem to be acquiring quite a collection of that too :o

Oh Celyn, I love marimekko prints too, I bought a shower curtain from JL which was almost £40 :o and had to pretend to my OH is was £15, I was so ashamed - he would probably have :rotfl: though.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I feel better now :)

I found a marimekko fabric shop when we were in Finland last month  Not good... not good at all... They had a remnant bin as well *hangs head in shame*

Totally agree with both of these. My OH bought cheap washing up liquid from our corner shop the other week, it literally lasts two mins before you're doing the washing up in a bowl of murky greasy water, so it's Fairy all the way for me. I stock up when it's on offer.

And I refuse to buy eggs from caged hens.

Have realised I should prehaps have included haircutting in this, but it isn't a luxury to me as I HATE having it done & it only costs £8 every 3 motnhs or so (longer if I can put it off for the slightest reason!) and I colour it myself at home. I even tint my own eye-lashes now too!
Can you please tell how you tint your eye-lashes, I'd love to tint mine myself as well.
If you feel my post has been useful, " merci" would not go amiss.

  • I feel like a saint after reading this thread (it actually means I'm boring and more of a stingy cow than I thought :D)

I do have a car, as where I live, there are two buses per day and I work shifts 9 miles away. I do sometimes by frozen roasting potatoes. Oh, and I do buy a fair bit of wine, although it's usually £2.99/bottle or cheaper from abroad.

I hate buying clothes, I've got enough of them, shoes and handbags. I don't have a DW (would love one as hate doing dishes) or a TD. Don't buy crisps, biscuits or ready meals - even yellow stickered stuff. Use whatever shampoo/conditioner/shower gel that's on offer and smells ok. Only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, so a bottle lasts for ages. Rarely wear make-up, and the best (for me) mascara I found was in aldi for £2.50 - no clumps, flaking etc.

Two other non OS: Bottled water 99p for 8L (sparkling) this is to keep me off the fizzy pop and spices/herbs. The collection is out of control!

Laddu, you can buy eyelash tint kits in boots/superdrug etc. Easy to use, you mix the bits in the kit, apply like mascara and then wash off after a set time. Lasts approx a month, depending on how often your lashes change.
Call me what you like, I was a bit "tiddly" when I chose my username

I made a vow last year to not buy supermarket clothes (although i do buy trousers for my son, cos he goes through the Knees like billy - O (whoever he is :D)) It is too easy to just shove the odd top or trousers in your trolley, but they never fit me properly and i do have enough clothes. when I do buy, I am buying from decent shops and paying a bit more but i have bought far less items overall and think i have saved quite an amount.

Strangely the Aldi mascara "falls off" very quickly and by the end of the day I can look rather panda-y. Haven't chucked it though, just wear it on days when I'm not really doing anything or can take it all off early evening (yes i do wear make-up even if i'm not leaving the house as I hate to see myself in mirrors without :o)
I wanna be in the room where it happens
