  • Savage thanks for the update, all of the other midwives were excited too (some to a greater degree obviously) but they were all supportive. This one just didn't seem to be bothered. I just don't want to go in to labour before they drop the box off!

As for pethadine, the thing is they offered it me last time a part of my home birth plan :p and then they couldn't dispense it. I'm not sure in would use it anyway I have a tens machine which will be my primary source ( as it was last time). I did end up having pethadine last time but I was induced (heavily on drip as 2 previous inductions had failed after my waters broke) so am hoping it was just hat they were fast and furious!!!! And I won't need it this time. now it feels like its more about the principle than the actual drug if that makes sense :)

If I use water I'll use the bath as I didn't want to pay for the pool on the basis that I ave to be realistic and I may not be able to contract naturally like last time and end up induced again :o

Thanks for your thoughts I shall be reading eagerly to see how you get on x

Wonder if any of you have any thoughts on this though - when I saw the midwife she was the 5th one I've seen 5 appointment- I know that is nothing unusual, but she is now our permanent one at the surgery. However, I have asked and planned for a home birth since my first appointment. So today she says - still planning a home birth - no one managed to change your mind? And raised an eyebrow. I said no, no one had changed my mind, but could she book in my home visit as I know this is the protocol as I had it last time when I had planned a home birth. She said, oh don't know what the protocol or paperwork is but *guessing* there is a long form to fill in, will have to ask a colleague and could I go back next week  now I dont mind going back next week the issue I have is have she is clearly anti home birth and seems to be faffing with it

In addition, I asked from my first appointment about the availability of Pethadine for home birth as last time the midwife and drs at my surgery both agreed I could have it but couldn't agree on a process as the guidelines had just changed and they couldn't agree who should have it me or the midwife. It was never resolved before DD was born. So this time I thought I would bring it up nice and early, each midwife I have seen has given me a different view on process so I sorted direct with a doctor who agreed to give me a prescription, just needed midwife to notify her. S today asked new midwife. She just said outright NO. She won't give it for home birth, doesn't agree with it. What  I can't believe the care is so dependant on who you get, there appears to be no consistency.

Sorry for the long post if you've stuck with me this far, thanks :o and would love to know your opinions.

She does appear to be anti-homebirth, doesn't she? And she should KNOW what the procedure is for your home visit, regardless of how "new" she may be.

You need to write to the head of midwifery at your Trust, explaining that you are unhappy with her attitude. If you aren't comfortable with her, then they need to know, because what could be worse than having this particular midwife turn up when you are in labour, and you believing that she is anti-homebirth? Nothing will stop your labour quicker than being faced with that.

You also need clarity re the pethidine. If the trust say that it's okay to have it, and your GP agrees, then again, if you need it during your labour and she's refusing to give it to you, what are you going to do?

I have had to complain about midwives on numerous occasions, usually about homebirths and have found that most heads of midwifery are brilliant about sorting things out, and quickly. I have written to them refusing care from certain midwives and they have been "removed" from caring for me and my baby. Don't be worried about writing to them (these things are often better in writing) it won't affect your care - most midwives do actually want to support the women in their care and their choices.

    Best of luck

very interesting olgadapolga. so tricky about these things. hope all gets sorted jonno.

just come back from our nct class. two more weeks and then we will have one postnatal one too. it has whizzed by fast and it has been fun. normally the men are always laughing about but today everyone was serious as we went through different pain relief methods and saw some pics of the placenta and all that. i got a bit freaked out to be honest. everyone says epidurals are good. however today we saw with the tube sticking into your back with the epidural, there are so many other things strapped to you. eek! scared. lol. the birthing pool still looks amazing and i was just sitting there thinking that hope that works for me. lol.

my bladder feels so pressurised as well. aaghh. to the point its painful. walking is def harder now so is climbing stairs. working from home tomorrow solooking forward to a little lie-in .

am off to bed soon ladies. hope you are all ok. xxx

    Morning ladies :)

Still no movement here, bit relieved as DH was really sore and shaken up after his accident yesterday, but he's working at home today and seems a bit better in himself, though he's still stiff and sore.

Quiet morning of knitting for me, and then I'm taking myself to the cinema this afternoon to see the new Twilight film, if I don't have any twinges! Tonight DH is driving me down to our hometown for an evening of Christmas decoration making with my sisters while he goes for a drink with friends :D since I've got such nice things planned I'll probably go into labour at lunchtime ;):rotfl:

Fair enough, but one of my friends (who had a 'failed' home birth as she needed to go in in the end) spent most of her time labouring at home in the bath and would recommend getting a pool as it's bigger and you can move around in it easier (and change positions to suit).

The contractions (by all I've read) should be much easier if they come naturally and aren't induced.

Aida. You got your BFP just after I joined the TTC thread. As if you are already so close to having that baby! How fast has it gone!

That's what I'm hoping! I didn't use water last time I ended up I hospital for induction as no contractions for 48 hours after waters broke  the best thing was g&a and tens machine. My hired tens machine has already arrived :D obviously I can't do water and tens anyway and as soon as I take the tens off to get in water it won't ever be so effective when I put it back on so will probably just stick with the tens.

midwives here said that it's OK to get into a bath post waters breaking so long as it's your own bath in your own home
