Hi everyone - sorry I've not been around for a while. Hope everyone is doing ok.

Marta - icecream is also good. Especially when you put the bowl on your bump before you eat it - the cold makes baby shift out of the way! Lucozade is also a good one (horrible taste though - the ice cream is much tastier option!).

LittleMoog - What a stupid eejit!!! Hope your DH is ok - that sounds nasty. It was the last thing you needed right now. Hope you get the car sorted quickly.

Moneypenny - there is a very itchy rash you can get in the 3rd trimester called Polymorphic Eruption of Pregnancy. I got it with DS although mine was a-typical and started 5 days before he was born and took weeks to go away. The usual pattern is for it to start somewhere in the 3rd trimester and go away when baby is born. It isn't serious (unlike OC which is bad) but the itching can drive you mental. I scratched until I bled! Basically your body begins to react to the baby like an allergic reaction. Only thing that eventually worked for me after trying creams etc was a long dose of benadryl! Not saying you have that but it wasn't something I had heard of until I got it with DS. Praying I don't get it this time!

MrsH - tiredness can be a sign of low iron. But best to see the doc and get checked. I am on pregnacare and am also on iron tablets prescribed by my hospital (standard procedure for them - 1 a day from 18 weeks on). i take them every other day as my body can't cope with that amount of iron so my levels should be fairly good. i am however still exhausted and I hit 30 weeks tomorrow. i have never had a glowing or blooming phase that all the books talk about! Glad you managed to get an apptmt to get it checked out. better safe than sorry when it comes to baby! And the doctors/midwives think like that too!

9 days Rups!!!! How exciting! I have 4 weeks left after tomorrow - I can't wait!

I had horrendous heartburn throughout my pregnancy and my baby doesn't have much hair at all!

I had zero heartburn with DS and he had a full head of black hair! :)

We're all really different so for some women there may be some truth in old wives tales.

hey nephthys, good to see you back here :) hope you are well and not as tired as me. lol. i think i am the champion with regards to tiredness and have it from day 1! lol. i bet you cant wait for mat leave. as i have been silly and counting from the beg of Nov, it seems to be taking longer but have started a countdown and even on facebook i just put today ' 9 DAYS LEFT' lol.

marta, glad you feel a bit reassured. one can just never stop worrying about anything. when i feel movement i feel reassured and then i know there are times, when little one is tired too.

can someone tell me whether having some palpitations is normal please? i once asked the doctor and one midwife and they said yeah normal and then asked another mw last time (as i never see the same one) and she said it isnt and should go to labour ward!! huh?

  • I have awful heartburn this time, so I am expecting a little one with a mop of hair! Didn't have it as bad with DS1 and he had a normal amount of hair when he was born (although has masses now).

  • Afternoon all. Well an odd old day for me. Went to routine midwife appointment this morning for 38 weeks. Said my blood pressure was too high, so sent me for monitoring at the hospital as a precaution. When I got there the midwife thought I was the for reduced movement but we got there in the end. She took BP on arrival and it was back to normal, so just had to have some bloods and BP taken a few more times over the course of a couple of hours. Came out and was starving as it was well passed lunch and I'd originally only planned on popping to drs when I left :o anyway soon sorted that :D

Wonder if any of you have any thoughts on this though - when I saw the midwife she was the 5th one I've seen 5 appointment- I know that is nothing unusual, but she is now our permanent one at the surgery. However, I have asked and planned for a home birth since my first appointment. So today she says - still planning a home birth - no one managed to change your mind? And raised an eyebrow. I said no, no one had changed my mind, but could she book in my home visit as I know this is the protocol as I had it last time when I had planned a home birth. She said, oh don't know what the protocol or paperwork is but *guessing* there is a long form to fill in, will have to ask a colleague and could I go back next week  now I dont mind going back next week the issue I have is have she is clearly anti home birth and seems to be faffing with it

In addition, I asked from my first appointment about the availability of Pethadine for home birth as last time the midwife and drs at my surgery both agreed I could have it but couldn't agree on a process as the guidelines had just changed and they couldn't agree who should have it me or the midwife. It was never resolved before DD was born. So this time I thought I would bring it up nice and early, each midwife I have seen has given me a different view on process so I sorted direct with a doctor who agreed to give me a prescription, just needed midwife to notify her. S today asked new midwife. She just said outright NO. She won't give it for home birth, doesn't agree with it. What  I can't believe the care is so dependant on who you get, there appears to be no consistency.

Sorry for the long post if you've stuck with me this far, thanks :o and would love to know your opinions.

Hey everyone. Just thought I would update for those who don't post on the FB group.

I saw my consultant today and I need to have an iron infusion asap (tomorrow) as my iron levels are dropping on the iron tablets (baby is taking it all!) and I'm classed as severely anaemic (my levels are 8.7 but I don't see how that is severely anaemic when I've read that some people are in the 3-5 range?!).

Dreading it, to be honest as I hate canulas as they always tend to put them in the hand!

It might be that 'severely anaemic' is different in your case as you're pregnant, going to lose a lot of blood soon with the birth and are booked in for a caesar?

jonno, I'm booked in for a homebirth. My midwives are quite excited about it as are the students! (also not seen many people twice though, I've now seen 'my' midwife 2x at clinic and 1x when she dropped off my box, but no-one else twice!). Of course everything is different in different areas, but no-one moaned about 'procedure' here either.

Pethedine: here the only thing you can have at home is gas and air, this was made clear to me when I booked the home birth and has been re-inforced at the NHS antenatal class I went to.
