Hi everyone!
Want to say hi and re-join! I joined briefly a few months ago and got bad at posting. But now my due date seems to be getting closer very quickly I'd love to chat to other pregnant ladies as I'm the first of my friends to have a baby.
I'm 26+3 and expecting a little girl on the 11th of Feb.
Really enjoying reading everyone's birth stories
Trying to live a good life on little money :T0 -
Hi ladies,
Sorry I've not posted for a few days... Been feeling really rubbish and sorry for myself. I got my iron tablets and folic acid from the dr and I've got to take the iron tablets 3 times a day!! Seems a lot...
Katyj- I went to a baby show in Southampton on Sunday and they had a stall selling the snuggle baby's.. Looked really good and really practical, I almost bought one but as its my first baby I don't want to let myself get too carried away with things I may not need.
Can I ask what changing bags everyone has got? I like the babymoov bag, but also the wallaboo (sp?) one, but then get sucked into looking at loads more on the Internet and cannot decide. Like I've said this is my first baby so not sure what is essential and what isn't with a changing bag... Am I being stupid?
Congratulations to all the babies that have been born- and thank you for taking the time to post birth stories, I always well up when I read them, and the more I read the more I convince myself that I will be able to do it!
Anyway... Enough waffle from me, hope everyone's had a good day.

Katy, i got one of those at the Baby Show in Manchester, OH said he wanted one as they look useful and he never slept as a baby  hopefully ours won't be the same! Its our first too so hoping it is as worthwhile as it looks.elisabeth854 wrote: »thank you for taking the time to post birth stories, I always well up when I read them, and the more I read the more I convince myself that I will be able to do it!

I love the birth stories too, glad Im not the only one who fills up.
Congratulations to all the new mummies. love the pics of babies and bumps, can't wait to meet mine now.
Scottishchick, what a great sounding labour, hoping everyone on here has one so straightforward
Afm, sorry for not posting in couple of days, had my 34 week appointment and it looks like i could be having a section as baby is still transverse and has been throughout so midwife has said to get on yoga ball to see if they will move before 36week appointment.

I've ended up with 3 changing bags
I've got the free one from boots parenting club which is alright but looks a bit small. I've got a mamas an papas one which matches my pram which is average size. I've also got a babymoov, love it but it is quite big, it's almost like a small hold all that you would take on holiday. I guess the thing to think about what do you want to put in the bag which may determine the size you buy and do you want it to match. One of my friends bought a radley hold all and used that as a changing bag because she wanted to be stylish.
Got a whacking headache tonight, blergh! Seeing midwife tomorrow for 25 week appointment, Yaye! Feels like an eternity since my last appointment.I :heart2: saving money0 -
Has anyone got a Babymoov bag? I'm having trouble with the catch but not sure if there's a fault with mine or if it's just hard to do. You have to twist the catch on the main part of the bag vertical then place the catch on the flap over it (hope you know what I mean). My problem is the catch on the main part doesn't stay vertical long enough for me to put the flap catch over it, is this what they all do or is there a fault with mine?:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

Morning ladies
Had a lovely day yesterday, one of my sisters came for lunch with her 9 month old daughter, so had a nice play and chatniece is such a cutie, she's a very happy baby, spends most of the time chuckling
Quieter day today, but going to try and get to Milton Keynes to do some shopping. Quite tired though, DH still has a rotten cold so not much sleep for either of us. Starting to feel quite heavy and uncomfortable, but there's a maximum of 18 days to go before I'd be induced if Beanie doesn't appear spontaneously before then! :eek:Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -

CONTRACTION MASTER TIMER
Please post your birth stories here when you have time/energyLittle monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Morning. LittleMoog you can mark me as a scheduled c-section on the 4th December if you want? I'm not surprised you are starting to feel uncomfortable! You're only a week away from your due date.
I have been feeling like I've been eating too much and have put on too much weight, so I weighed myself and have put on nearly 2 stone (I'm 36 weeks). A few people I know told me they put on 4 stone and got back to being very slim in about 6 months, so I'm not woryying too much now. One girl in work went from 7 stone to 14 stone!! And she's back to 7 stone again.
Looking forward to having this baby now. The hospital gave me some info on the section and said to leave all bags in the car until after the baby is born apart from one small one with a nappy, a dressing gown and slippers. What do they expect the baby to wear? I've the black Boots changing bag packed with a few things, so I'm sure they won't complain, as it's very small.0 -
CL - I'd put on 13 kgs (just over 2stone) when I weighed myself last week or so and we're roughly as far along as eachother. 7 stone seems a bit excessive though!!
They might be expecting baby to have skin to skin afterwards, in which case all it needs is a blanket to keep warm and the clothing can wait.
swaddling - All swaddling is is wrapping baby up so it looks like a cocoon really - a swaddling blanket is just one that makes it easier for some reason or other. We are going to try this, I have some shaped blankets and one zip-up-swaddle-thing specially for swaddling but you can swaddle with a large muslin or a blanket. I have also bought a suitable-from-newborn sleeping bag though and we'll just see what works.
Pros: Apparently makes baby feel more secure and sleep better as it has been all scrunched up inside you till now so suddenly being 'free' can be a bit alarming for some babies, and some of them can 'startle' themselves awake by thrashing their limbs about.
Cons: Some babies can't stand being swaddled
If you swaddle too tightly you can give baby hip problems (I suspect this is quite tightly and for long periods of time though)
The latest study into cot death found a link between swaddling and cot death (i.e. more babies who were swaddled than not died of cot death). Now I've read this study and don't think much of the "link" - for instance it doesn't split out those who were both swaddled and put to sleep on their stomach, or on the sofa, both of which are much higher risk factors. However you should be aware of the risk, obviously if the baby is all wrapped up tightly and ends up on its stomach somehow it might struggle to breathe! Also this is (I think) why they now recommend you don't swaddle with a proper blanket as baby could overheat (which is another major cot death risk factor). There also have been comments that the higher risk of cot-death due to swaddling could occur if you try swaddling an older baby who's not been swaddled from birth.
In any case, our blankies for swaddling are very thin and actually quite stretchy so we will try it.
changing bags - I've bought a BabyMule which should be arriving todayI was also looking at the pacapod - in both cases I wanted a backpack style and not a handbag style as I'm not a handbag person at the best of times, they are just so impractical. Warning - pacapod website plays noises if you are at work!!
