Morning ladies
Picked up the moses basket and lots of newborn neutral clothes from my sister yesterday, so I think we now have everything we need for Beanie's arrival :j The only thing missing is some moses basket sheets (sis only had 1 as niece never slept in Moses basket), but may just use pillowcases as we have loads of spare bedding. Will see if we can get any at the nearly new sale next weekend, but otherwise I'm not bothered
Had lovely cuddles with youngest niece yesterday, she's 8 months now, can't believe how the time has flown by this year. She's very nearly crawling, she keeps getting up on hands and knees and then just sliding backwards :rotfl: She also ate a huge amount of roast dinner while beaming at us all from the head of the tableNephew no1 was there too, but he was in a very sad/shy mood as he's had a cold all week and not slept well, so not up for much playing!

Morning guys,
Happy due month October ladies. There are loads of you due this month.
Not much going on with me, I have a day off today so I'm going to start to declutter the house, in a very chilled, stopping every half hour for a rest kind of way. We watched a couple of RAF jets walking home from school this morning and looking up squinting for 5 minutes made me really dizzy when I had to start walking again. I'll be 24 weeks on thurs so v. Day which I'm sure is a nice milestone but bubs needs to stay firmly put for a good while yet! The sickness has been creeping back in over the last few weeks which is yuck but nowhere near as bad as weeks 8-16.
On the money front we've been trying to just live on DH pay and save mine for the last few months which is working reasonable well for day to day living and bills etc but there's a lot we want to do to the house before bubs arrives so savings will take a bit of a hit. I hope to have 9 months off- will only be entitled to MA as I'm not technically but effectively an agency worker. We think we'll be ok and manage to just live carefully enough next year to live on DH pay, we have a mortgage and all the usual bills but I am very strict about getting the beat deals on things! Have so far spent £300ish on baby bits and hoping to spend maybe £700 more with DH's parents buying our uppababy system- very very generous. My parents are also very generous and will be likely to contribute the same. DH has his heart set on using the cot he and his siblings used which is the Winnie the pooh one you sill get but 30 years old, lol, it's in the loft of the house his parents let out as they now live abroad but they think it should be ok to annoy the tenants for a morning. We still have the Moses basket from our DD which I've just had brought down from the loft this weekend and washed the covers, reassembled and it looks lovely, DD is nearly 8 so there's such an age gap that that's probably the only thing we can hand down, I'm determined not to drag down te bin bag of 0-12 months clothes to wash and sort unless we find out it's another girl.
Ok stopping the essay writing now!!
Happy Monday all!! XxMARCH GROCERY CHALLENGE £118/ £2500 -

Hi, I am now 24 weeks and we are starting to buy more.
I have a question about peoples' opinions on blankets verses the sleeping bags that babies wear in bed?
I was thinking about using sleeping bags as there is less risk of suffocation, but am now concerned that baby may overheat as he will not be able to kick the sleeping bag off as he would with a blanket if he gets too hot.
What are your thoughts?0 -

I doubt newborns are dexterous enough to kick blankets off if they're too hot. They do kick them off, but there's no conscious action behind it. Up until about six months, it's very much mum and dad's job to make sure they're in the right kind of sleepwear.
When F was new I swaddled him as he'd always kick his blankets off. He's now in a sleeping bag which is great, much less hassle. You can't necessarily use them from birth though - it depends on the weight of your baby as they're not really appropriate for tiddlers."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Candlewax - I have been told to use cellular blankets so if they do cover their face the holes allow them to breathe through ... saying that I am going to use a sleeping bag at night (when it is generally colder) and just a cellular during the day:jBaby Boy born December 20120

We're going to go the sleeping bag route I think, as Fluff said some are a bit too big for newborns but there are one or two out there. I'm also going to give swaddling a try, but apparently some babies hate it (and others can't sleep without it!). I think it's one of those things where you just need to be sensible, if your room is 22 degrees anyway there's no point putting the little one in a 'duvet weight' sleeping bag or under a blanket with lots of layers; if your room is colder then you should layer up a bit more. We usually have a fairly cold house so I'm not as worried about overheating. Arms and head are free anyway if you're using a sleeping bag (hats left out of discussion for now) there is some scope for the baby to cool down a little on its own.0
