where you wrap baby up so they look like a cocoon :)
it seems it might be good for some babies so they don't wake themselves up by flailing about (not used to having space yet) and might content them remembering how it was like in the womb.

Be careful what you wish for... The reason some of us are having more scans is due to complications (or possible ones) and to be honest, I wish I wasn't having more scans... I'm so sick before each one because of feeling stressed about having it and what I could possibly be told is wrong :(

I have been told that they are starting to discourage swaddling now because of the risk of cot death!

Lol bikelesschick, yours has some excuse, you are due this month! Mine went into panic mode saying that we need to do it asap, because I leave everything to the last minute, and then I will be in hospital and he will be moving furniture around and getting things ready. I must admit he has a point, I tend to relax too much and then I have little time to do stuff... but I do not think it will be the case this time, I have already started to declutter bits. He wants to empty the bedroom, put up curtains and set furniture, put baby stuff in place and then start buying the bits and pieces we still need. He says all I am doing is browsing for bargains online, which is true! So today I'll try to do another bag for charity shop or list more items on ebay, or both! He also wants us to put the double bed we have there on freecycle so it goes asap, if anyone is interested is a small double (120cm), to collect from Manchester area. I am not complaining though, I think it is very sweet that he is so ready for it. He says he will miss my bump though! Lol, it is nice to sit on the sofa or bed just both staring at it and waiting for baby to move. Last night we started poking around and talking to her, she moved very slightly to basically move away from our poking lol. Then minutes after that, DH fell asleep and baby woke up fully!! So I was wide awake for another hour until she settled down again :)

Minted, I will also be on MA. I had worked with contracts on demand for over 3 years but my last contract ended one day before the 15th week!! So I do not qualify for SMP. Read carefully the terms, though, even if you are an agency worker you could have SMP, the continuous period does not mean "every week" but that you were available to work and worked when the agency offered you a position, even if this was once a week on call. There is a handbook at directgov.co.uk with all the tiny type and terms and conditions. In my job I did not work every month, but only when there were classes and courses, and when so, only certain days, but it did count as continuous. employment because I was available for them if they needed me. I did not qualify because I finished contract a day before the qualifying week, and to be honest we bith agreed I would do that, so I could rest and get ready. There was not much difference between MA and SMP for me, so it was ok. I have already claimed it, I am waiting for their reply.

sleeping bags, I had the same question, and another one: how do you change the nappy during the night with a sleeping bag? Do you have to take it off completely? I do like the idea of bags, I saw some offers online this week for newborn sleeping bags, but they are still much more expensive than celular blankets :(

Swaddling, I also heard in a midwife's episode not to do it, and read in a leaflet given at mw that it is ok during the day if supervised but not at night or when sleeping because if baby goes too hot s/he cannot move to allow some cool air going in or kick cover.

Thanks Savage so this can be done with a normal cellular blanket then?

now we have that room back, hopefully i can store baby stuff in there. yesterday my brother rang me (and he is very anal about stuff - a huge hypochondriac as well), and he was telling me off. :( saying we havent got much time left and we seem to be quiet chilled out esp as we need a car seat/pram and i could give birth whenever. :( so i told him we have the main bits and bobs anyway and my hosp bag id half packed, and he said HALF? lol

yeah dizsie you are right.. i dont want any complications where i have to go in and worry. my cousin was lucky enough to have 3 (one at 32 weeks) where she lives so when she asked me, i said we only get two and i just wanted to see bubs (not in a complicated way).. i cant wait now. :) i have my calendar thing in the kitchen. better go and write on it now :)

Yes, I went to go find the report which came up with that conclusion and it seemed like rubbish to me - erm, if you're going to swaddle, perhaps you shouldn't put the baby to sleep on their stomach?? It didn't split out the other risk factors properly at all.

Ok so firstly... all the advice i have been given about hospital bags is to be done by 30 weeks but i did get told off for not having it done by 24 weeks...reason being this is v-date so when they would try to save the baby so would be keeping you in hospital if you went into labour or there was a problem etc so you would need your stuff so I agree that you should have sorted your hospital bag... although mine only was finished by 31 weeks....luckily just in time as I had a brief hospital stay last week!

As for all the baby stuff... if you have the baby before 36/37 weeks they wont let baby leave the hospital until your due date usually so you will have loads of time to order everything...so if you are happy to wait a while longer then thats fine...just try be sorted by 36 weeks because then you give yourself relaxing time x
