Oh, ok :) I was looking for it, I think I added a baby's coat since and/or footmuff, just realised baby will be born in December and it will be cold!

  • Elisabeth, the faintness could just be down to your blood pressure being on the low side. I'm quite a faint person anyway, and have had a few fainting episodes during pregnancy, and the only reason doc could suggest is that my blood pressure or blood sugar might be a but low sometimes. Try to make sure you've always had something to eat, even if only a small bit, as I find that the longer I go without eating, the more wobbly and lightheaded I get.

Katyliz and mummyoftwo, hope everything went well for you both today x

Elisabeth, feeling faint in pregnancy is common. There could be a number of reasons - if it happens when you stand up or after eating it could be your blood pressure (a bit low); if it happens when you haven't eaten for a while, your blood sugar might be a little low; if it happens when you're lying on your back, your uterus and baby are most probably squashing your vena cava a little (the main vein taking blood back to your heart). If so, move on to your left. If none of these scenarios fit, you could be anaemic or you could be suffering simply because your blood volume is increasing and this can upset your circulation for a while.

If it concerns you at all, talk to your midwife.

In response to other posts... 6 sheets for a moses basket?! Hmm, sounds like she wanted a sale! I've got four for my cot (because they come in packs of two) and I've not yet opened the second packet (Freddie's 12 weeks!). I change it every few days and the one in the wash is always dry before it needs changing again. It depends on how often you wash but I'd definitely say you don't need 6!

  • 8 pages to read so I can catch up on everything. PhD submitted, not sunk in yet but had really good sleep last night.

Might take a while to catch up on everything as Operation Ebenezer commences today - travel system ordering and full draft of birth plan for next mw appt on 10th. Oh and car MOT at lunchtime.

Hope everyone's well and that you have lovely plans for the weekend. Lots of vibes to the boldies :)

(PS We've been teasing FIL that baby's name will be Ebenezer as due date 10/12, nice to see him trying to work out if we're serious or not! :D )

Well done on getting the phd in mlbarret - bet that's a relief.

Could some kind bod point me in the direction of a concise newborn essentials list? Dh and I need to sit down and plan what we need before making a budget.

To the lady asking about nursery sets I've been keeping a beady eye on eBay. Seems like there were none but after the last no fees weekend theres been a bit of a flurry. I think I'm going to try that route as we have no furniture at all in the baby's room.

Bottle warmer? You don't really need this, most people I know with one never use it as it's a faff and if your breast feeding you won't need to warm milk up and your not meant to store formula milk either nowadays, but if you had stored breast milk in the fridge you could just use a jug and water to warm it and save yourself some money!

    Bath:
Bath or "spongemat", or both [Argos: bath, spongemat and bowl for £20] Thats really really expensive. You can get a bath for £5, we got ours for £2 from Morrisons at the end of the baby event. The spongemats are £3.49 in Home Bargains and you can just use a small plastic tub for top and tail washes. I wouldn't spend £20 on a baby bath set.

baby wipes + big cotton pads for first weeks instead If you really don't want to use cotton wool you can use water wipes, they are safe to use from birth.

maternity pads (10+) and breast pads I would take more than 10, we were told to take 3 packs just incase as you may have to use them with your waters as well plus you could be a heavy bleeder.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Thanks ikkle. I plan to breastfeed but I want DH to be part of it, so I plan to express milk regularly and put it in the fridge, that will also allow me to rest at weekends a bit more when he is home. That was why I thought of the bottle warmer, but yeah, boiling water might just be as good!

The formula, I only want one small pack, for the first days, in case I cannot get any milk out or, like somebody said in this thread, I knock the bottle and have no milk left! Just an emergency pack. I do almost the same with our milk, I buy fresh but always have one pack of carton milk in case we run out.

I do not know if it is called spongemat, it is like a big mat made of foam with a shape in the middle, so you can put it in the normal bath as well and the baby lays on top, so s/he does not slip. That is what I meant, cheapest I have seen it is around £7. I did not want a bath, only that mat, but DH is very tall and does not want to bend in the normal bath, so he wanted a baby bath. Is that what you mean? Do they have it at Home Bargains? If so, yes, it is a much better price to buy those two things separately!

Thanks for the water wipes tip, I had no clue. Where do you find them? Are they easily distinguishable from the other ones?

Thanks for the maternity pads thing, I will change my notes!

We've bought a large bottle of SMA for £2.89 as a back up incase I can't breastfeed rather than a big tub of formula. Once opened the bottle can be kept in the fridge for 48hrs and you just decant it into the babies bottle.

Yep the sponge mat with the indent for baby is what I got from Home Bargains for £3.49. Might even have been £2.49 it was that long ago but I know it was no more than £3.50. We got a baby bath for the same reason as me and partner are both tall but I also have a spinal condition so it's easier for me to have a small plastic baby bath and sit on living room floor :)

Water wipes are these http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplay0_10751_-1_166667_10001 they may be available in your local supermarket or cheaper on places like Amazon etc. I haven't really looked into buying them as I have 2 packs x

it might be worth asking on freecycle for a 2nd hand baby bath rather than buying one. We've been given one by a friend, not sure if we'll use it, and apparently they are one of the things most people buy then don't use and they end up in landfill.

Marta, I'll look in my medela boxes today if I remember and see what the differences between them are. I also went with the swing because of the good reviews I've read (this is my first baby so no personal experience!), if there are genuine new ones on ebay going for that price it's worth it, I kept an eye out for quite a while but they all went for much more in the end and the used ones also went for good prices.

There are some special newborn sleeping bags out there too (not too MSE) - I'm looking for a sleeping bag which isn't filled with polyester and have found two newborn suitable ones (one is merino, the other is apparently some kind of hybrid between a swaddle and a sleeping bag and is from Australia). Still trying to make up my mind on those :)
