I won't be having the flu jab - I'm phobic of needles, so won't be having any extra ones that aren't essential. Hopefully won't be pregnant for much longer anyway. *crosses fingers hopefully*
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

I won't be getting the flu jab either. I didn't with DD 2 years ago. My cousin is a GP and I called her and asked her what she thought. She said that if I were a patient she would say to get it as that is what the NHS recommends and it's her job to say that, but she said as a friend/relative she would say not to have it. I work in an office with 3 others and would have little exposure and she said she felt it hadn't been around long enough to be sure of any side effects in pregnancy. She had a baby herself six months ago and didn't have the jab as she said, even though her work exposed her to every sickness, she felt she'd build up goob immunities over the last 10 years.
  • Also dont know whether to have the flu jab. Our clinic recommend having it at the end of October but babies might be here by then anyway

Washed a couple of loads of baby clothes and blankets :j

I have my baby shower tonight. Im very grateful that my relative is throwing me one but Im also a bit p'd off that we'd discussed having it around 4ish as she knows Im ready for my bed at 9, and she's invited everyone for 7.30 . Also, I hope she isnt thinking of it as a normal girly drinking night which she throws fairly regularly and will be bladdered by 9

Oh well, what will be will be. I am looking forward to seeing all my friends though

Saw my doc yesterday as Ive been having problems with my ears for the last 3 wk. Have a feeling of pressure in them and can hardly hear anything. And he said all is normal, no sign of anything. Its driving me mad

Anyway, sorry for all the moaning as usual! Hope everyones ok and has a lovely weekend xx

    Hey everyone!

I've been back to work this week, so am spending today recovering... although I'm still feeling really good and I'm enjoying being at work (weird, right?!). Due on Friday and am finding it really hard to not get my hopes up about going into labour, especially when everyone at work keeps commenting on bump dropping/looking ready!

Got told off by OH last night because he was at work and I only text him once.... he got home and said ' you're not having our baby yet then!' I couldn't believe it!!!! Then because I got overly emotional (ahem!:o) he apologised and all was good! :rotfl:

How is everyone else doing? I have been lurking all week - Rups well done!!!!! :T

Ladies the flu jab cannot give you the flu, it's a dead or inactive form of the virus that your body uses to build a quick response for the immune system from.

Within 10days of having it those antibodies will also transfer to baby. As an asthmatic with another lung disease I have it every year and have never had a reaction to the jab beyond a sore arm for a couple of hours.

It's another risk/benefit weigh up. I'd rather the jab than the flu with a newborn or indeed have a newborn with flu. That said the jab doesnt protect you against all strains of the flu, just the most common that flu season.

It's like the MMR jab controversy. It drives me insane all te misinformation and worry passed on to parents because of scare mongering by the media and lack of detailed information given to parents. Grr.

I'm not yelling at any of you guys, just venting my general frustration. Please look at your own case individually, the risk factors are different for everyone.

Yep, that's right twinklie, but I swear I get more than an itchy arm. It is as if my body thinks those viruses are not dead and I get temperature and general fighting virus reaction. If the jab contains weakened viruses, instead of dead ones, I get a short and weak version of the illness. As you said, each person is different. The jabs are made with the virus of the previous winter anyway, so if the virus is of a different strand, the jab is not 100% efficient. In my particular case, I don't really want to have it. I understand what you mean, but the mixed messages are not only from the media, you can find medical research both ways. I read someone in these boards saying that if experts cannot agree, it is probably not that important, so I am going with that. Either way there is a risk, I am going with the one that I believe is less likely. I am not working and spent most of the time at home, no visitors.

  • Hi, I am 22 weeks today. At my 20 weeks scan they said baby is breech. Does anyone know if I will have another scan to see if he has moved or not? If he doesn't will this mean a c-section? The woman who did the scan wasn't particularly friendly and we were so carried away with finding out he is a boy that we didn't ask anything we should have!

Also he is moving loads, when will he be big enough for hubby to feel him when he puts his hand on my tummy? He can't wait.

    Thanks.

Babies can move into the correct position by themselves until quite far along. You should get a scan nearer your due date to see what way the baby is lying. Both my friends who had babies this week were told their babies were breach at 20 weeks and both babies had moved into the correct postion by the time they scanned at 29 weeks.

A section is recommended if the baby is breach when you are nearing your due date, but they offer you the option to go in for them to try to turn the baby (an ECV).

It's really normal for baby to be in that position so early on hun. The midwive will have a feel of your tummy later on in pregnancy and be able to tell what position baby is in and if it's around 34 weeks and your bubs is still breech will probably refer you for a scan to check. Please don't worry though my bubba was breech till 33 weeks and is now definitely head down!

  • Hi candlewax- my baby has been breech all the way through, it wasn't until 36 weeks it became an issue, midwife referred me for a scan to confirm position and we are booked in now for a csection at 39 weeks (Monday!). We had the option to try move baby externally but I'm very small and there wasn't much chance it would work, or you can try labour naturally but it's high risk for mum and baby. It's quite nice knowing exactly when baby is going to be here!
Congrats on being team blue by the way! I was a bit later on when OH could feel kicks, about 26 weeks.

I'm sooo glad they're cutting him out of me on Monday- heartburn is killing me- his giant head is practically between my boobs! It's so uncomfortable. I definitely couldn't go another potentially 3 weeks of this, and I've had absolutely no signs at all of labour so I think I'd be in for the long haul.
Sorry I'll be queue jumping though!
