marta and barrett what are yours in? Mine was medicinal chemistry. was interesting at first as it was cancer research and making drugs to test against cancer cell lines. :) all chemistry. it was the writing up that did it for me. do it though as in the end you feel soooo good.i actually cried when i passed my viva!! :0)

Juls, i arranged to leave 2 weeks before my due date. it may depend on the company. The later i leave the better pay wise as i get such a cr-a pay so if i take longer then it ends earlier next year. i have a few holidays left so am hoping to tag them on too.

Mine's in sustainable drainage, looking at the effects that cars have on a vegetative parking surface. Have analysed the effects that used oil has on different grass species that are used regularly in other vegetative surfaces, and then focused on surface compaction, geochemical and magnetic studies of the surface (in comparison with the parking habits of the drivers that used the parking bays), and then mapped the data in GIS to produce an alternative method of presenting my results.

Here too, it was interesting at the beginning and don't mind lab work at all, but having a biological sciences degree and molecular biology MSc, it was difficult transferring to environmental and geography areas. Have had to learn everything without the background knowledge.

I just wish it was possible to have a few glasses of red to keep me going whilst I write. My writing flows much more easily under the influence!!

    Here's what's not normal...

Giving birth to a different species, e.g. cat, aardvark.
Baby bump growing out of your shoulder, not your tum.
    Craving poo and dust.

Pretty much anything else goes. Chillax before I come to Croydon (please, God, no) and slap you :D

I resent this.... Croydon is not that bad... I work here (don't live here) and I feel safer in the concrete jungle here then I do in plenty of other places...

  • I'm leaving at 36 weeks, but taking annual leave for the last week, so my maternity pay will start at 37 weeks. I handed in my letter with my intentions on it earlier this week, and they confirmed that they were happy with that.

I'm back from sunny Spain! Work has been mental this week though, that'll teach me to leave it for a whole week... It was a great holiday though, I did nothing. I left the villa twice, once to go to the supermarket and once to go out for my Mum's birthday. There were 15 of us staying there so it was quite big - plenty of room to roam without getting bored!

Oh, and to the people who were concerned about flying - I was 27 weeks on the way out, 28 on the way back, took my notes and the printout from EasyJet's website (clearly stating you can fly up to 32 weeks with no problems), and I didn't get stopped at all - they just weren't interested. I'm measuring exactly on for my dates, so i've got a definite bump - so my experience was that they're not that strict on it.

I can't believe I'm 41 on the list. That's almost in the 30's! I also can't really believe that I've only got between 8 and 13 weeks left... it has gone so fast.

Congratulations on passing your test Rups, and on all the lovely snuggly babies that were born while I was away - they're all gorgeous!

Croydon is fine, as long as you don't get too mouthy with the bouncers outside Yates' on a Friday night because they're more likely to kick the !!!! out of you than any of the locals...

I grew up in south east London, mind. My stomping ground as a teenager was Lewisham, New Cross and Peckham. Practically anywhere feels safer than those, so I'm pretty much ok!
