Morning ladies, havent posted in a few days as had a very 'interesting' weekend to say the least.
I actually thought I might be queue jumping - from number 40
Woke up for a wee 3am Sunday morning, got back in bed and not 5 mins later felt a kind of pop, like a release and started leaking clear fluid. I stood up and it ran down my legs so went to bathroom and cleaned myself up. Walked back into bedroom and more was running down my legs. Thank god my DH was there as he was due to leave for work in half hour. I rang the labour ward and they suggested going in straightaway to be checked. Got there and was put on a CTG, babies heartbeats were fine but I was having lots of tightenings, some felt pretty strong too. They were fairly irregular but lots of them. Doc eventually came and checked my cervix and said there was no sign of my waters breaking, was I sure I hadnt wee'd myself. Assured him I hadnt, so he said it could have been watery discharge. The fact that I was having so many tightenings concerned him though so he suggested I stay in for monitoring and he gave me a steroid injection for babies lungs just incase they decided to make an appearance. I had to have another 12hrs later so definitely wasnt going home until after 5pm.
Anyway, I was sent down to the ward where I spent the longest 34 hrs of my life! They decided I had to stay in another night for more monitoring, followed by a scan to check the fluid around babies (all perfect). The tightenings eventually settled down and doc said they were probably braxton hicks. Still having some small ones but nothing like that first night, so they said I could come home but to ring if I need anything at all
If there is one piece of advice I can give.... pack earplugs!!! It wasnt just the patients making all the noise coming in and out throughout the night, it was the nurses talking all night long . And they certainly dont lower their voices in the slightest
There was one good thing that came from my stay though (apart from babies being fine of course). A lady was put in the next bed to me at about 11pm Sunday night in labour, contractions 3 mins apart, she stayed there for just over an hour before being taken up to the labour ward, and it was the most fascinating hour for me :rotfl:. I was laid listening to her and how she was handling it and it actually helped me because I have been so scared about the whole labour thing, and I really want my labour to be like hers now! She did so well and only went on gas and air just before she went up (she was 7cm dilated then). I was a bit disappointed when she got taken up, I wanted to hear how the rest of it went :rotfl:
Anyway, I will catch up on the thread now, all I wanted to do when I got home yesterday was sleep

Cake4Brains, I've not had any tightenings yet but have had v. watery discharge (in fact I asked the midwife today how precisely you tell whether it's waters or discharge!). She said waters have a distinctive aroma, and that they're likely to go in a steady stream when they do go and there'll be quite a bit. Also that it might be straw coloured. My earplugs are now packed! Glad the girls are happy in there now!0

Glad everything turned out ok in the end cake - also pleased to hear that you feel really positive about labour now too.
Welcome back savage.

Loathed to spend loads on one but will need one between now and the end of the year so looking to spend about £20 absolute max. Keep your eyes peeled for me kind ladies!
I was just thinking the same thing on the way to work this morning. It was 7.5 degrees. My SIL bought a maternity coat last winter and says she is done now (4 babies), so I'm hoping it comes my way soon!Cake4brains wrote: »If there is one piece of advice I can give.... pack earplugs!!! I second this! Especially if you are being induced. I had two nights in hospital being induced before DD was born and people in labour in the next bed and nurses walking about kept me awake so I didn't have one second of sleep for two nights. Then DD was born and was awake the whole of the third night and I fainted in the shower the following day (exhaustion and blood loss I think).0 -
Glad you and Bambino are OK Cake!0

Just bought the 'First time parent' book on your recommendations. DH has been reading pregnancy for dummies but he needs something to move onto I think! Also got baby names 2013 book as we're in need of some inspiration0

I LOVE winter coats. Don't know why, but I'm the girl who always has 4-5 decent winter coats on the go, buy at least one new one a year in all kinds of colours/styles (don't hate me, i never buy shoes or makeup etc, this is my vice!)
Dissappointed I won't be able to wear my favourite ones this year so also on the lookout for nice maternity ones. I'll probably want a decent smart woolen one and then maybe a more casual parka style. Plus a proper raincoat for hiking etc, although might try borrow one of those from a larger friend.0 -
Morning all! Funny i was thinking about a winter coat as well. 6 degrees this morning up here CL!! I have to admit to being someone who loves the autumn/winter time!
Cake - glad all is ok so far! Hope you managed to get a bit more sleep at home.
I really hope to avoid staying in hospital this time. I only stayed one night after DS was born and barely slept as well. Fingers crossed for a birth like DS's as I will be opting to go home after the 6 hours is up! However, being me I will probably pack/plan for all eventualities! Lol!
Welcome back Savage. Hmph - I am only 20 weeks and very definately look pregnant. Sigh I can only imagine how huge I will look at the end. DS was a big baby and I suspect this one will be too. Eek!
To give the other perspective on travel systems - I didn't get one. I know this was going against the norm but I have a bit of muscle weakness and I knew that I would never be able to lift the car seat too easily especially when baby got bigger (and he was big to start with). I ended up choosing based on other reasons. We got a car seat based on safety and lightness (was between Recaro Young Profi and a Maxi-Cosi one - got theRecaro) - important bit being that it had to be able to fir in a car with a 3 point belt and with isofix. Had to have the base for DHs car as the seat belts were too short to go round a backward facing car seat. Buggy was chosen as it was suitable from birth and was one of the lightest ones we could get. It's an Out N About Nipper 360 and I love it. There is a drawstring pouch under it where we keep the pump, slime, raincover and snoozeshade) and we do have a basket that removes but we don't use it much - I have pram clips that velcro on and they hold quite a weight so just use those but then I use the car a lot because we live in the middle of nowhere so a big basket wasn't as important. I have seen the new version of the Nipper and they are now adaptable into a travel system with a Maxi Cosi seat. I still like it but a travel system wasn't a deal breaker for me. Ok - that was an essay sorry!
Although I would like to ask *Twinkle* what double did you get? (I am assuming you meant a double pram) Am debating getting one but not sure!0 -
for winter maybe try primark for a cape/swing shape coat? plenty of bump space and chic enough!0

Ive read back now, lots to catch up on! Welcome to the newbies and hi to those that are posting more often.
Emweaver congratulations, love the name Isabelle, was on my shortlist but DH got his way so now its not . Hope you are feeling better
Seems there were a few of us being monitored/checked over the weekend. Hope everyone is ok now
Norabatty, thank you so much for the advice, glad your little one was ok
Bellola, got my fingers crossed for you that things start happening soon
Ellonic, thats the cotbed and drawer we got off ebay for £33 - we got the mattresses from kiddicare for £40 each
Marta, I know its daunting thinking about all the things babies need and how much its going to cost but it really doesnt have to cost the earth. If you look back at my post 4512, I have written a list of things I have bought, what I paid and how much they should have been. Thats not the entire list, just the basics, but its generally how we have managed to afford everything. We are having to buy 2 of some things and my benefits have recently been stopped so we have no choice but to buy lots 2nd hand and we have saved lots of money doing so. We have been given lots of presents and hand-me-downs too, so we have been lucky that way, why not consider going to car-boots etc. We got a large carrier bag of baby-grows and sleepsuits, all practically new for £2
Great bargain on the travel system btw :T
Moneypuddle, reading back how you feel about babys arrival really struck a chord with me. I can totally relate to feeling overwhelmed and scared that your lifes about to change and not having control over it. Its totally normal and understandable, we have been ttc for 3 years and gone through IVF and I still feel that way. Although, after my experience of listening to the woman in labour at the hospital sunday night I do feel more mentally prepared to get through this. Please try to not be so hard on yourself, and anytime you need to talk we are all here for you:j:T Gorgeous twin girls born 1st Nov 2012 :T:j0
