  • Happy due date twinklie!
Thank you nora for sharing your experience and for all the tips!
Moneypuddle - I'm not far behind you and I'm very scared of giving birth too and I sometimes (read: most days these days) I have the 'what on earth was I thinking?' question in my head. I'm guessing this is pretty normal though as giving birth is a lifechanging event so I think it's sort of expected for us to feel like this.
Welcome and congratulations Marta! Jules and findingmyownway too!
Marta, you may find that what's essential for one person may not be essential for you. I don't believe that we need to spend thousands unless people want to ;), I certainly didn't. Shopping around definitely pays off and I found asking for recommendations here helped as well. Eg. bath wise, other ladies on here mentioned the bath from Ikea for £5 and a bath foam support for £3 from home bargains. I would have paid double or more if it hadn't been for them.
Sexymouse - are you still taking the RLT? I'm impressed with your efficiency! Glad you'll be able to sleep on your bed tonight :)

AFM, I had my baby shower which was lovely. It was great to see everyone and we had a good laugh. I was knackered yesterday and even today I've been struggling with pelvic pain but I'm hoping it'll all go back to normal tomorrow. I haven't got my hospital bag ready yet but at least I've started it after so many people telling me off lol

I've done a stock count on everything we have to find out what's missing and it doesn't look like we need a lot more. One question though: how many muslins do we need? I have 6 so far and I don't think this is enough, or is it? How many have you ladies bought? Also, the cheapest I've found so far were the mothercare ones - I think they were buy 1 get 1 half price at the time. Has anyone found them cheaper elsewhere?

Sending some labour vibes to those who want/need them!

You need to go try out the prams Rups, as it's likely to be your single biggest purchase it's important you can actually try it out in the shops so you know you can fold/unfold it, it fits in your car, and you like the way you have to push it!

I think the first thing is for you to think about what you'd like in a pram. Eg. do you go off road? If so, maybe consider a 3-wheeler. Do you need a travel system, etc. Then look at reviews online, the which website can be helpful for reviews as well. You can sign up for a £1 and cancel it after a month (otherwise membership is about £7 pm).

Oh, thank you, I was worried I was missing something!!! I guess it all depends how much you can afford, I am really trying not to spend much. I was working on contract and it finished just before I could qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay! I need to apply for Maternity Allowance now, but I don't have a job waiting after that, and that might put a bit of pressure on current expenses.

ellionic, that is the kind of cotbed we want, that Argos price looks good to me, much better than the other one! I am planning to wait until January sales if I can, though, baby is expected in December and we will be using a moses for a few months, so we probably do not need any until March-June. I saw one like that at my local M&S Outlet for £99 a few months ago, I missed the deal, so I am waiting for something like that to come around again :D

Hi ya, i have read all your posts but cant comment on each one of you, sorry, brain is dead.

I have so far bought a pram and car seat, 4 bags of nappies and today with that argos offer £7.50 for a quilt and cot bumper.
I am planning on asking family to get me the moses basket - they will ask what we want them to get us-. My hubby says he wants to build the cot but even if he does not manage, i am thinking of getting one when baby is 4/5 months old., i will buy all the clothes in the january saless, this is my second child and to me the more important things are clothes, pram, car seat( if u have a car), moses basket/cot, bottles/milk if you will not BF.
I will not need a baby monitor cos baby will sleep in my room the first months, maybe afterwards i will get one.
it really does not have to be expensive.

  • I started off with a list of what i wanted from it
    ie bigish shopping basket
    could turn into travel system
one whole handle not two and had to be able to change height because of bad back
    not to heavy
small enough for car boot with shopping
what weight/age it would last up to
    able to fold one handed
Then i did the rounds on the net and had a short list/ read reviews/googled alot and was amazed how much the price dropped from looking around. Then took my short list to the shop for my final test run before picking
I wanted to make sure i got the right one this time i hated my daughters it was just so heavy which is not good when i have 10 steps to tackle just to get to the garden gate lol I am very pleased with my choice this time around. good luck picking x
