I'm going to admit to being a bit of an ignoramus here, but what are the benefits of a water birth?
I suppose I am worried as well that a. I will have to be completely naked - no thanks, although I am sure I will have other things to worry about..and b. what if I do a poo by accident in it :rotfl:I mean it does happen doesn't it? Unless you have a colonic, but tbh I'm not keen on the idea. Lesser of two evils I guess.
This made meA close friend had a home birth a little while ago and had a birth pool. She asked me to be there with her, the midwife & her partner and the whole thing was absolutely amazing. She did have a very straightforward labour (and it was her first) but no pain relief other than the pool, which is supposed to help.
She wasn't completely starkers, but wore a halter neck top whihc worked well and was good for skin-to-skin afterwards.
On the poop front, the midwife had a little sieve thing that she used to remove any ahem... offending articles from the water lol! I have to say my friend was completely unaware of this at the time as there was so much else happening.£2 savers challenge:dance:£152/£200:naughty:Still trying to pay off my CC£3,800/£4,343 paid off0 -
Fluffnutter - your boy is gorgeous!! Soo cute! Thanks for the birth story too.
mattress protector - I hadn't even thought about that! We don't have a cot, just a moses basket for the time being as it's likely we'll move homes soon. Do I still need a mattress protector? Sorry if it's a silly question, it's my first one and I have not got a clue about most things
Chrissy and jedi- glad your mat leave started. Chrissy, I hope you manage to get the birth you want.
emsbet - love the stickers and the nursery!
twinklie - what baby gym did you get?
Thank you for the link to that website RebekahR. It'll definitely come in handy at some point. Also, I hope you're resting today and good luck for tomorrow. Will be thinking of you!
LittleMoog - that is cool. I haven't seen mine moving yetbut then I don't really watch it and hadn't thought of that. Guess what I shall be doing next time I feel movement?
first aid kit - What is anbesol for?? I have read somewhere that we're not to use gripe water past baby's first month? Did I get that wrong?
LMM - I hope you're enjoying your do today!
I'm off to have lunch now and then shopping with DH. Need to think what we're buying. So much left to buy still!:jBaby girl born 3rd October 2012:j0 -
I plan to wear my tankini top – assuming I can have a water birth if all is straightforward. I really want a water birth as it is supposed to be one of the most natural ways to give birth and as izzy says the pain can be much less if you're in the water.
Once I'm getting labour symptoms I think I'll naturally try and eat less but I've been having bowel movements every day for at least 6 weeks now. I think my system is having a clearout in preparation for labour. But if I poo, I poo! I think I'll be more concerned about getting the baby out than worrying about lost dignity. It's all very undignified anyway0 -

Under me. Anyone else get this?
Put my first batch of newborn clothes in washing machine todaybut worried bout the amount of clothes I have. I really have very little newborn and tons of 0-3 worried I don't have enough.
