Hey lovelies. Hope you're all okay.

Does anyone know if it's safe to dye your hair during pregnancy? I know that it's best to avoid certain things in the first trimester but I'm in the second trimester now, so I wasn't sure.
There's alot of conflicting information on the web about it.

Apparently I over did it yesterday with my nesting. Now I'm pooped. Not planning on leaving house today anymore So let's hope I can keep little beastie entertained all day

Morning all!

LadyM I believe it's ok to dye your hair in pregnancy, but I would have it done by a professional as they probably have more knowledge of which dyes are safe. If you're at all worried, I know that having highlights and lowlights is meant to be fine as the dye doesn't make contact with the scalp, so this could be an alternative.

Been to the local baby and children's tabletop sale today. Typically most of the stalls were selling girl baby stuff (last time we went we didn't know the gender and they had loads of boy stuff), but we managed to get:

- a little white knitted cardigan for 50p (on the hospital lists it says they need cardigans but with it being summer at the moment, I've not seen many in the shops, or the ones that are are very expensive);
- 6 muslins for £2;
- a pack of 4 newborn sleepsuits for £1.50 (including 2 next ones with helicopters and cars on, a white one with a blue bird on, and a white one with a little white bear embroidered on it)
- a pack of 5 0-3month sleepsuits for £1.50 (mainly plain white, but one plain yellow one).

Quite pleased as some of the sleepsuits seem virtually brand new. The sleepsuits etc were bought from a couple who had twin boys. Grand total = £5.50

Just want to have somewhere to store it all now! Getting impatient. lol

From what I've read the main issue isn't a risk to the baby but that you may have more sensitive skin and therefore be more likely to react to the dye. I had mine done last weekend. My sister, who is a hairdresser, did it for me. I was just going to have foils but she said that it should be ok to do all over as I had no cuts or redness on my scalp. Also I use a semi permanent dye. I think at the end of the day it's a personal choice just make sure you do a patch test.

I feel like I am going to explode if I eat 'normal' portions this is bad as I have days when all I want to do is eat :eek:

NHS advice is not in the first 12 weeks, and after that your own discretion. There are chemicals in hair dye that in large quantities would not be good for baby. The quantities present in hair dye are so small it is unlikely to pose a risk. I've dyed my hair a couple of times all over with no problems. I guess it depends how you feel about it - if you will worry after, there's no point.

I have still been eating prawns and runny eggs, and have drunk alcohol a couple of times when I have got an urge: 1-2 units, not necking loads, and stuff like local ale and guiness that I got an urge for, not alcopops coloured blue. I think it depends on what your body is used to..doing or eating something new is unwise imho. Agree with Emsbet, and use a dye you have used before. I had a severe allergic reaction at 9 weeks, very scary and very unpleasant experience!
