We've been lent a baby bath that has wide edges so it sits on top of the bath, which saves leaning in. Will see how we get on with it, but since it was free I thought we'd try it.
Kitten, I love that your cat is called Bagheera! Is he all black?
Decorating baby's room today, walls all washed, cracks filled etc. just having a lunch break before starting on the ceiling. Will try and put up some before/after piccies later!Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Hello all,
I'm popping in for some company really. I think I'm in early stages of labor but not sure if it's the main event or just a rumble.

No fish cake. I won't allow it. It's my turn.love you lots like jelly tots0

Ooh Fishcake exciting. Good luck!
Griggsy it was me that said about the cats. I have 5 (!), ridiculous I know. Our problem is they like to sleep on the beds/sofas/comfy chairs so I know they will see the cot and moses basket and think it looks like a good spot to sleep. Plus they do scratch the furniture and I don't want my beautiful new cot scratched! At the min we have the nursery door shut and a box in front so they can't pull the carpet (another of their hobbies). As much as I love them all they are hard work! At night they are going to be shut downstairs but first we have to get laminate flooring put down, again so they don't pull up the carpet!
Well, we had a lovely brunch out in the garden. Bacon muffins, pain au chocs and pancakes. Delish! Then I baked a cake so will have afternoon tea and cake when hubby's done in the garden. In the meantime, I might take a nap!
Hope everyone else is doing ok.0 -
Hello everyone!
MrsE congratulations! Looking forward to hearing more on the fb page!
Dizzi great to see you. Did have to read that a few times - congratulations! :j How are you and Erin getting on?
Morocha have pm'd you about Facebook
Ikkle hugs for overdoing it yday, easily done when you're having fun though. Hope you're not feeling too sicky
Snowy hope DH and DD arrive home safely in the end. Glad you've got another two weeks to relax a bit. Hopefully when they're both home they'll fill up your day a bit more
RJH sending labour vibes to you, hope you managed to nap before your daughter
Mishka sorry to hear about your scan. Surely if they were super worried they would squeeze you in? I agree, to me anyway, more often like weekly at this stage would show growth better.
Bikeless about pads, everyone is different I guess. Your friend may have loved the Mothercare ones. They're similar in price so may be worth buying a few brands to test?
Beanymagoo I don't think you're being unreasonable about hubby. I know it's all planned that he'll be back in time, but babies are unpredictable. Are his work reasonable people that could send someone else or something?
Jwil congrats and welcomeyour EDD sounds so far away! It's my first and mainly thanks to this thread I'm hoping I'm a bit less clueless lol
Cakes glad the scan went well and babies are ok
Brunette welcome! Do you want adding to the list?
Dundee congrats! Looking forward to you joining 'properly' when you're ready.
Emsbet my flankles as oh calls them (flabby ankles- smooth talker) are sore when touched now. This it's the constant swelling like you said. Just try and keep them well moisturised to keep the skin in good condition. And as for the spa, am I jealous? Yep! Totallysounds perfect and I know you've been looking forward to it for ages so hope you have a great time
MMM hope you do enjoy the wedding. I know what you mean, not just going out its the having to be polite/friendly when you just wanna be indoors. Sounds like things are coming along though from a few weeks agonot long left though for us
Hope I've not missed anyone out in my mammoth essay
Oh yeah baby baths we've one of those bath/changing trolley things. I just wouldn't be able to bend over a bath, if we didn't I would have used the kitchen sink or washing up bowl tbh. We got our trolley almost new second hand, wouldn't pay full price. On wheels so can wheel to the bathroom to empty it and has storage underneath.
It was morning when I started typing, but BIL nephew and niece appeared for a cuppa which was a nice surprise. OH and FIL are going to start with the nursery today at last :j I've woken up with two curled up hands so have two thumbs and two index fingers that work. Good for typing but not sure much good for painting. Think I'll be in the supervisory role bossing the men about whilst eating ice lollies.....oh well :rotfl:
Just got a lovely parcel from another MSE mummy with some nipple cream, pads and other little bits she no longer needs with a lovely card wishing me well. Was so lovely
Well hope nobody has melted yet. Definitely ice lolly time now. Sending big labour vibes to those wanting them and hugs to those feeling rubbish/melting. Xx
P.s. Fish cake good luck!
And Bellola your brunch sounds yummy....my tummy is now rumbling!:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j

Hey all,
congrats to those having mummy cuddles already.
Had my hosp appt on Wed, couldn't do a sweep as cervix was unfavourable, however on Thursday started losing my plug and contracting about 4pm. Managed to get a couple of hours sleep then contractions got to 3 in 10 mins by 11, phoned hosp at 12 and they said to go in to be checked. Woke up DH and went in, was only 1cm. Lost huge amount of plug (honestly don't know how it was in there). MW could feel babys head and membranes intact so went home to try and rest.
Contracted all through the night at the same rate, got to about 11am and started to tail off, and today had less than 10 all day. Grrr, was getting excited and thought baby was coming. Ah well, at least its due date today so looks like I won't go too far over.
Have to ring hospital on Monday if nothing else has happened to find out a plan (they hadn't got back to me by the time I went in early hours of Friday morning).
Hope all good with everyone else, will read back in a bit, just wanted to update that I am still hanging aroundBoots: £107.xx on AC :j

Bath - we have a baby bath from Ikea and a foam support from Mothercare, and use both every day. We'll use the foam support in the big bath when LO outgrows her small one, so it was worth investing in one that will last. We 'store' the baby bath in the big bath and just take it out when I or OH have a bath/shower. Personally I'm not keen on going in the big bath with LO, nor on the amount of water you'd need and the time it would take to fill up the big bath. LO just about has enough patience to wait for me to fill up the small one! Also, a wet baby is slippery and wriggly - if I should end up losing my grip, I'd rather she's in her small bath than in the big one. But then again, others swear by using the big bath, so I'd go for whichever option you prefer the sound of.0

LMM good to know that someone else understands how I feel! yes, house is coming along, it's just that I have to rely on OH to do stuff and that can be frustrating! ordinarily, I would lug boxes up into the loft myself but obviously I can't so have been asking him for a fortnight to put some stuff up there for me. he says he will, but then he goes and does other stuff and in the meantime the boxes are cluttering up the landing and spare room! Then he moans that the house is a tip and that there is stuff everywhere! I have tried to patiently explain that of he would just move the boxes, it wouldn't be half as bad and it would give me more rom to carry on sorting through other bits and pieces in the spare room. Likewise, he is now finishing off decorating in the porch, despite the fact the he needs to paint the window cill in the nursery to complete that. he always moves onto something else before finishing off one project! I really want to unpack all the baby stuff that we have (that will clear more boxes and bags out of the way!) but he doesn't want me to until he has painted the cill! Fair enough, but that means I am sat on the bed doing nothing (I know, I should make the most of it!) when I could be getting on with bits and pieces whilst I still can! He's just not logical or practical when it comes to thinking through what needs to be done!
i also feel like I have given half of my life away these past couple of months. I must have thrown out about twenty bin liners of things, taken countless bags to the charity shop and given away practically a kitchen, spare bedroom (all furniture and accessories!) and half of my living room on freecycle! In some ways it has been good to get rid of a load of things but in other ways it has been hard - I have lived in my house for ten years so have a lot that is personal to me whereas OH moved in at about ten months ago. I want him to feel that the place is ours and we have changed a lot already but I don't think he gets that it's like I'm giving away the past ten years! I'm probably being over-sensitive, I just have to keep focusing on the fact that the end is in sight!
Cats are nicely chilled out on the bed with me; glad to say that it looks like my daft tabby is over his cystitus (I know this cos he wee'd all over our lovely new floor downstairs when we left the tray out overnight by accident!) I'm a bit concerned that they may try and get into the crib with baby whilst in our room - when baby goes into nursery we shall keep the door shut so they can't get in, but they usually sleep on the bed with us so hoping they will not be that bothered in any case. Was going to get a clippacot thingy but they've not had very good reviews on amazon and they seem to be a bit of a bind when you need to get baby out in the middle of the night! Who was it that was writing about their cat being given a sedative? Sorry, baby brain in progress! Well you may want to consider using a product called Feliway. You can get it in a spray form or the best option which is a diffuser - these have been recommended to me by the nurse that looks after my tabby and they do seem pretty good. They help to chill out cats without the need for drugs so may be worth looking into that?
re baths, we'll be getting a baby bath. OH wants the winnie the pooh set in toys r us so may mention it to the MIL as she wants to get us something and we just about have everything covered now. I did think about getting into the bath with baby but I'm not convinced that this will be practical and I think it will be easier to handle baby if we use a baby bath. Plus, I am terrible for water conservation so it would drive me mad putting enough water into the main bath each time!
Sorry for the long post, just seem to have a lot on my mind today. LMM can't believe we have so little time left! In some ways this pregnancy has really dragged and in others it has flown by!

We have a baby bath - it was given to me by my bessie, no idea if we'll get on with it or not, but it will be much quicker and cheaper to fill than the big bath which takes AGES to fill.
Midwife has been and I now exist in the Welsh system. I don't have to see the midwife again until the 20th, but need to call on Tuesday for blood results. She's also referred me urgently to a consultant because I'm 36 weeks on Monday and am running out of time to be checked out - as I should be according to my notes.
Baby is still measuring on the 90th percentile, so seems to be behaving himself at the minute - and he had a lovely strong heartbeat - after he finished booting the probe thing anyway. Ha ha.
Oh and as for OH's doing doing things, my DH was a legend this last few days. He's bought new curtains to prevent me freaking out and tidied the whole of the downstairs to settle my nerves on the whole - the midwife is coming and will take our baby away unless the house is spotless. :rotfl: Now if only a) we can keep it this way and b) we could make the upstairs the same.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

LMM - Erin's getting on brilliantly - was 12lb 5 last weigh in this week, and she's caught up pretty well on the growth charts - she's between the 50th and 75th centile on her adjusted age, and about 9th centile on her actual age (because she was a preemie they chart it at her actual age and then track the line back 7 weeks to what she SHOULD have been if she'd stayed put)... only minor issue she seems to have is the beginnings of asthma (quite likely - me and dad had it as kids) and an umbilical cord hernia they reckon should clear up on its own given time (it seems to be going down and is more a normal looking "outie" now rather than the elephant trunk effect it did have going on)...
Me, well Bliss (well worth contacting if anyone ends up with a preemie - shame I had to find the information out for myself) lined me up with a counsellor to go over the time in the NICU and the hospital ward experience after I had to go for an ante-natal physio appointment (which was highly useful - NOT!) that was comedically scheduled in the room next door to the NICU and I started getting tonnes of flashbacks to it all - the GP also put me on meds for anxiety after I couldn't shake my utter terror social services would come back after us (that saga will be on the closed previous thread if anyone missed it) - but I've stopped those for the moment because of the two lines on a pregnancy test thing, and was scheduled to see the doctor on Monday anyway for a review on that front.
Wouldn't mind but I only ran into the midwife on Thursday anyway! (She was going into the building when I was going to weighing clinic and she stopped to say hello) She's going to laugh so hard when I roll back in for a booking in appointment - and not even ask me if I want to go back to the same hospital again - she knows better than that! Actually giving serious thought to an elective cesarian if I go anywhere near term to be honest... but the idea of staples and having to have endless of those awful clexane injections I was refusing by the end of the hospital stay last time (they very much got into a "ooooh you're here - never mind you're here for your baby's sake not your own health - must find some drugs to jab you with" mindset till I put my foot down) puts me off that one!
It's rare I do it - but a lovely snuggly bath with baby IS utterly gorgeous - just have someone else on hand to hand them to you when you get in and want to get out. As opposed to our first trip swimming where Erin proceeded to use my chest as a pillow and go to sleep in the pool!
With the cats - really don't worry. I've got the most neurotic attention-seeking cat going and she was utterly indifferent to the baby - we had a bit of bother with one of the dogs till she got used to the pitch of her cries and the like, and she's a compulsive soft toy stealer so humpty dumpty regularly gets kidnapped (daft dog hasn't got the brains to nick a toy WITHOUT a tell-tale jingle inside it), but they're both fine now - indeed the other one was lying in bed with us last night licking the baby's toes - to howls of giggles from the baby, and keeps bringing her HIS toys to try to get her to play with him!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
