The Sure Start Maternity Grant used to be given to loads of people, but hardly anyone qualifies now. It's only for those on certain benefits who don't have any existing children under 16 now.

Im on benefits and have no children, which the midwife was informed so dont know why she said they dont do it anymore . Will have a look online and see what I can find about it.

Sa-ra-ra-ra, Ive been pretty much trying to ignore all the food advice apart from the obvious ones. Dont know how I'd get through summer without my mcflurrys :)

Bikelesschick, my last dog (collie cross) had a really delicate stomach so we fed him on boiled rice, boiled chicken and boiled fish quite a lot.

Smoked salmon is on the no-no listeriosis list, quite specifically. And no, you're not supposed to have sushi.

NHS say smoked salmon is fine:

Although it’s safe to eat smoked fish and cooked cold meats, pregnant women are advised to avoid other foods that may contain listeria. These include:
    • mould-ripened soft cheeses such as brie, camembert, chèvre (a type of goats' cheese) and others with a similar rind
    • soft blue-veined cheeses, such Danish blue, gorgonzola and roquefort
    • all types of pât!, including vegetable pât!
    http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/eating-smoked-fish-and-cold-meats-during-pregnancy.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=216#close

Sorry double posted with everyone!! I don't eat pate when pregnant, but do eat rare beef, runny eggs and have a glass of red wine once a week.

    Aida- congrats on team pink
LMM- sounds like it could be carpal tunnel? Hope all OK
Jedi- good luck for avoiding induction and starting naturally
    Rups- enjoy your hols
Sa-ra-ra- I will join you on your soapbox, since I had DD (2.5 years ago) the advice has completely changed, luckily much of what is on the lists I don't eat anyway, but McFlurrys are a must for me. I have balanced by completely refraining from alcohol

Went in to have sweep today with consultant, only they weren't in so saw a registrar instead. Couldn't do the sweep as cervix too high, thick and 'not telling me good things'. Cheers for that! She is going to discuss with the consultant tomorrow and call me to discuss options, I guess for further sweep/ c-section etc. Was OK at the time but afterwards got quite upset. I know I'm not 40wks til saturday but I am so worried that the longer I am pregnant the more chance there is of something going wrong and my body letting me down again. If I had been at home instead of in hospital at the time everything went wrong with DD then she wouldn't be the happy little girl she is now (Cat 1 emergency, basically 20 minutes to get her out max). As I was early with her aswell I already feel overdue. I am just scared that my body is going to let this baby down too and I will be in the wrong place.

Spoke to DH about it and he got a bit cross and said I should tell the doctors how I feel, but I just feel a bit mental as its not rational. Also didn't help that the doc couldn't find that heartbeat either with a doppler so had a scan to make sure all OK. Not sure if still 2/5 engaged or not.

Sorry to moan, I know they are small worried compared to other people, but just needed to vent a bit

Hope everyone else is OK, and sorry if I missed anyone

Hi, just wondering if anyone can recommend any pre pregnancy vitamins/supplements? My problem is I can't swallow tablets so they need to be soluble or chewable!
    Thanks in advance x

    Hi long time lurker here.

Just want to put my two pennys worth in about McDonalds only cleaning there flurry machines once a week. I was a manager there for 7 years and we emptied, washed and sanitised our machine every night. Can't promise that in every branch its sanitised every night but the shake and sundae mix is flushed out and replaced the next morning. Hope that puts a few minds at ease.

    de lurking now xxx

  • Gemma big hugs. I've no real advice or anything. But it's normal to worry about things and compare to your last pregnancy. Hope you feel better having vented on here.
Credit crunch I don't know of any. The pregnacare ones were massive. However I did get tesco own brand folic acid which are very small. When I go upstairs I'll look incase you could crush them. May be worth just looking on Boots' website or something to see what they have? Or ring your local midwife/antenatal clinic?

Feeling much better now I've had the jungle on my head tamed lol. Ordered pizza for tea I'm super hungry! Still unable to use this daft hand much. Hoping it'll be back to normal in the morning :)
Hope everyone is having a nice evening xx

Aida, congrats! Nothing to worry about with the anterior placenta, it just means it's on the front of your bump rather than on the back (can make the movements harder to feel, but in my case baby just kicks sideways!). I don't think there's anything special they need to do with it except if you have a caesar they need to know so they can avoid cutting it.
Thank you Savage. True about the kicks. As I always feel her (can't believe we know the gender now :j:j:j) kicking sideways.

I know! Last time I was pregnant was 2 years ago, and this time when the GP asked if I knew not to eat rare beef, I asked why I was allowed to eat it last time? Has there been some big change in what's in beef that I'm not aware of?

I totally agree with those who say, if you are told not to eat it because you might get food poisoning and you have eaten it all your life and never got food poisoning, it's probably fine to eat if you know it's within expiry date.

    Morning everyone.

I've got my growth scan this morning, so hopefully baby is still growing ok. It'll be another chance to see her, and it's quite nice to get the extra peeks :) I was supposed to be seeing the consultant afterwards, but they don't have a free slot until the 31st which is a bit strange! I've got to see the MW this afternoon anyway, so I doubt it matters much.

The kids were awake at 3.30am this morning as they are so excited to be going to stay with their grandparents for a couple of days. Once I've got them packed and ready DH and I get to enjoy out last alone time as a couple for the next, ooh, 3 years or so I guess, lol! So we'd better make the most of it!!

Aida it must have been fun going out to buy your first pink clothes. I still haven't bought any new pink bits as the shops here are so bad for girls stuff!

Gemma - I understand how you feel. The problems my daughter had as a newborn are more likely to be avoided if I'm induced and in hospital when everything kicks off, yet they don't seem keen to do things that way now I'm in a different area, which is scaring me. Fingers crossed they call you back with some options you are happy with.
