Rups, if you are going to do the envelope thing then I would suggest taking your own envelope and paper as they are very busy in the scanning department and so the sonographer probably won't have time to go looking for those things.
We found out what we are having but then afterwards I found out DH didn't want anyone to know. His parents and my mum knows but no one else does and it's been a real pain in the bum as people are constantly trying to see if we trip up.
I personally don't get the whole "surprise" thing as I'm positive that when I have my baby boy I'm not going to be thinking "oh I wish I'd waited for the surprise", surely I'll be more concerned that I have my baby in my arms. Also the reason people don't traditionally find out is that there wasn't the technology to do so but all the old wives tales go to show that if they could have people would have found out.
But then everyone has different opinions on the matter. I do think you and your DH need to have a solution sorted before you have the scan rather than "debating" it in the room.

Rups enjoy your scan today and I hope the time goes quickly for you, both of mine had been early mornings cant imagine having to wait around allday. Im sure once your there things will be fine with you and DH as it will just be good to see baby and how much he/she has grown.

I have just had an extra hr sleep on the sofa, I am sure the tummy pain is baby as there has also been alot of daytime movement the last couple of days and thats unusual. I think having an anterior planceta isnt helping locate the reason for the pain as i cannot see or feel the body parts much at all.

My OH still can't feel the baby because of the anterior placenta although I can feel him most times :) x
I'm starting to wonder where my placenta is! I think it must be pretty low down so hoping I don't need an emergency caesar. Mine is also anterior but I can feel and see kicks / punches / who knows what now on both sides but also about where my belly button is. At first all the kicks/punches were on either side so I figured the placenta was by my belly button but now I'm not so sure!

Aida, at the post-20 week scan I got given a pamphlet on pain relief and one of the stats was that 1 in 8 epidurals don't work correctly so that might be related to what you've heard.

well he wont talk about it as it will escalate into another argument and i cant deal with another one. i m already tired from the one yesterday. just want him to realise what an ar-e he has been but clearly he doesnt think so and i wont remind him lol. i will go and look for an envelope and paper now thanks. i think that might be better and will warn DH not to touchi it otherwise i will go get a private scan and find out and make sure i tell him! :)

Mine is also anterior and I think it's right in the middle of my bump as I can feel movement more at the side. Although as baby has gotten bigger I can feel him more there. I think the placenta moves as your uterus grows so that's why some people have a low lying placenta at the anomoly scan and it's moved up by 34 weeks when they are re-scanned. If you need a c-section it will be in your notes the position of your placenta and the surgeon will be aware and take the necessary precautions.

My placenta is anterior too - think it must be on the left side fairly high up now, as I feel most of my movements on the right-hand-side and down low.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

wishing you all the best with your scan Rups! how exciting, i drank too much before i went and needed a wee all the way there lol was horrible, they normally have water it the waiting room or take a bottle with you and drink it while waiting to go in :)
  • I have a posterior placenta (which is presumably why I could feel Wriggler from about 15 weeks), and when I had my 12wk scan they said it was low down, but at my 20wk scan it had moved and is now a good distance from my cervix which is good.

Rups, good luck today at your scan. Croydon will tell you the gender - the sonographer asked when we went into the room if we wanted to know, so it shouldn't be too much to ask her to write it down. I've not had to wait at all for either of my scans, so I hope yours goes as quickly as ours did, we were taken in as we were registering at the ante-natal reception desk!

Also, missionary is absolutely fine as long as you're comfortable doing it like that. I've found recently that I'm getting a bit squished even with DH taking all his weight on his elbows, so we're going to need to consider other options soon!

My bump hurts today. We went to the Olympics on Friday and Leeds Castle on Saturday, and I think it was a bit too much walking - my hips have started to hurt and by the end of Saturday my DH told me I'd begun to waddle! I think maybe I need to give it a bit of a rest for a while. Ow :(
