rups - have fun at the olympics, have you got tickets to something?
i had tickets for freestyle wrestling (the only tics i could get lol) but i sold them back as its this weekend too close to
    babys due date

katyliz - we dont know if we are having a girl or boy, but DH is suggesting jessica after jessica ennis if she wins gold. we already have the middle name of caroline for a girl which is DH grandma who is still alive at the ripe old age of 99 :)

rjn - sorry you had such a frustrating appt with your midwife, hopefully as you said it will be someone else at your next appt. i am seeing a different midwife on monday called lynn, i remember seeing her for my 28 week appt and she freaked me out saying my baby was breach and didnt explain it really didnt matter that early on:o

how are peoples babies measuring on their growth chart? - i measured 40cm (at 40+3) yesterday which is my second reading above the 90th centile line - midwife didnt plot on graph so i did it myself, she didnt mention any probs with the measurement but then again i have plotted the last two crosses as she forgot.

eeeek to people going into labour without any maternity leave, poor things, i would feel all unprepared.

i am so hungry, have ordered some fish and chips to be delivered. when i wake up in the night i feel hungry but i dont tend to get a snack luckily i manage to get back to sleep.

weighed myself today have have put on 2 stone and 7 pounds, which is actually a few pounds lighter than last week:) i have a feeling i am having a baby over 8lbs.....wait and see.

I'm quite lucky in that I have the same midwife and student midwife when I go to appointments at my GP surgery and she is a bloody rock, she's made me feel so supported.

The midwife I had in Ripon was in the wrong profession and I really disliked her and I think the feeling was mutual, she made no effort to arrive at my appointments, cancelled and rearranged my scans without telling me and just basically treat me like a piece of poop.

When I have hospital appointments I normally see a different consultant, some are nicer than others but the midwives are all pretty nice, especially one who has seen me a few times including when I got admitted so she knows me well enough to stop me and say hi even if I'm not seeing her that day :)

I'm also quite lucky that we have a family friend who works on the labour ward so I will have a little bit of support there.....as long as she is working that is.

Jedi. I have always measured three weeks ahead on fundal height. Giant baby lol. At consultant appt they gave me growth scan and baby himself is measuring two weeks ahead. The midwife today tried to tell me I was only measuring big cos he hasn't engaged yet but afaik 2nd babies don't always engage.

Ben's asleep so here's my labour story as promised. Sorry if it's too long!

I went into labour spontaneously although I didn't know it. My contractions came and went and weren't overly painful. At my 40+1 appointment my cervix was 1cm long and 2-3 cm dilated, at my 41+1 appointment I was almost fully effaced and 3-4cm dilated and at 41+5 went to the hospital to have my waters broken and was already 5cm dilated.

I got my waters broken at 1pm and immediately my birth plan went out the window as my waters were meconium stained. MW said that I will need to be strapped to a CTG monitor for the duration of labour to make sure my LO is fine unless I agree to have a scalp clip put on the baby and then I would be able to be more mobile. I didn't agree to the scalp clip but didn't want to stay on the bed so was allowed to roll on the ball next to the monitor (no bouncing as signal would get lost). Luckily my contractions started getting stronger and MW thought it shouldn't take too long. How wrong she was!

At 5pm I was examined and it turned out I only progressed 1cm. The examination was really really painful so I got a bash of gas and air. Yuck, a few sucks and my mouth went dry and I thought I'm going to be sick.

After examination MW said I'm not progressing fast enough (1cm in 4hrs) and they'll need to put me on a drip. That's another thing I never wanted in my labour plan but after 4hrs of contractions I was getting tired and just wanted to speed the baby up. So they put me on a drip and I also asked for diamorphine - contractions were getting much stronger after the examination and I thought it's better to pre-empt my need for painkillers. My resolution not to take anything other than gas and air was at that point gone.

Diamorphine didn't really do anything for me. It gave me shivers and I was shaking like mad but didn't really take away the pain. MW said that it's meant to take the edge off the pain not take the pain away completely. She should've said that before and I wouldn't have opted for it. So another hour later I asked for epidural and I'm so glad I did. It was a real relief and from that moment I was just sitting on my bed, nodding off to sleep occasionally and waiting for stronger contractions.

At 9pm I was examined again and it turned out I was still 6cm so no progress despite the drip. Because of the epidural I was quite relaxed - just sat on the bed, slept and was generally getting bored while the MW was trying to measure the strength of contractions.

I was examined again at 1am and was still only 6cm and was told that I'm going to need a section as I'm obviously failing to progress and they don't want the baby to get upset (remember my waters were meconium stained). From that point everything happened really quickly. They topped up my epidural with one 5 times stronger and took me to the operating theatre and less than an hour later my baby was born.

I'm not really sure why I didn't progress but from what I understood his head was at the wrong angle so couldn't descend and because it didn't descend my contractions never got strong enough to help the whole baby out. Not to mention his head was really big as he was 10lb 4oz.

I wished for a labour that would be intervention-free and planned not to take any painkillers apart from gas and air. I ended up having my waters broken, diamorphine, epidural and finally a section. But I don't think my labour was traumatic. Most of the time I was relaxed and just waiting for things to happen. I'm glad I took the epidural and don't feel any worse for that. And I am glad I had a section and didn't have to push out a big baby. In the end I'm happy things worked out the way they did and would do it again in a heartbeat.

37 weeks and 2 days and only monday and tuesday left at work, yay!

the thread has been keeping me sane but far too sleepy for proper replies! hope baby comes this weekend jedi, she/he sounds relaxed like you so no worries :)
rjh, we've had different midwives everytime too, really nasty one last time who just grabbed the baby and wrestled him!!! hoping they will examine me next week at 38 weeks, as bit worried that i've had lots of discharge...

started raspberry leaf tea capsules on weds, same day as our first antenatal class which went a lot better than i thought. had sore stomach ever since and the feeling that maybe baby is engaging but not sure, might be wishful thinking. keep getting concentrated back pain too, but think that could be due to bad bra fitting, its from week 12 of pregnancy because we have no money and i want to wait until we can get nursing bra - when i packed my hospital bag last week mothercare said i should wait til 38 weeks to have a nursing bra, boo.

hugs and labour vibes to all who need and want!! xxx

Hey all, glad things are going well for people today.

We had a scare this morning, OH woke me up because my tummy was cold when it is generally really warm and he hadn't felt Mini_Cub move. We spent a while jiggling to get her to move but no luck. In the end I sent him for an Ice pole which did the trick and woke her up.

I could see the fear in his eyes so kept trying to reassure him that it was ok but silently panicking myself. He was an hour late for work today but I think work will understand.

I also heard from my job today, I am no no longer on maternity leave but am now on holiday and maternity will start 14th September which is very close to due date but at least it is almost sorted now. :D

Student We are probably at the same practice lol. Especially if u have yours on Fridays lol. I have had a huge massive lady squish my baby , a misdiagnosis of spd without any examination, the person who is meant to be my actual midwife who was ok an then this dottery old fool who I struggled not to shout at lol. Redischarge mine has gone nuts too lol. But midwife today was intent on ignoring me, not answering questions and not writing up my notes properly. She hasn't even blooming signed them lol.
love you lots like jelly tots :o
