    Morning all!

First day of mat leave for me today. Well, I'm actually on annual leave for now, maternity leave officially starts 27th August. Had a lovely day yesterday. My colleagues had decorated my desk for me and I got made a fuss of. They got me some lovely presents including a baby gym that fits in with my animals theme for the nursery.

I'm up early today as I have a tree surgeon coming to do some work in the garden later (not sure what time he's coming) and I have stuff to do in the house too. At least I can take my time over it and rest lots too.

LadyM, how are you feeling today? Do you still have the flashing lights?

Bellola, I delivered the placenta naturally without the injection, my midwife said because I had quite an easy birth/labour that she would rather I do it naturally! I was having skin to skin with Teddy the whole time and it took 41minutes for it to come out....they give it 40mins and if it doesn't come out then you have to go and have it removed. It's such a weird feeling as you've got the cord attached and hanging between your legs and the midwife sort of pushed on my belly every 5mins and pulled the cord a little bit. To be honest, o was completely in awe of this little person in my arms I wasn't really paying much attention! Although when it did come out and theidwofe was checking it(gloves on, hands in, eww) I was a bit like, oh my God did that just come out of me?! Was the size of a rugby ball! Amazing though :-) xx
Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference :)
  • Morning all!

Hope everyone slept well. How are the boldies this morning?
LadyM hope you're feeling better this morning. Was thinking we'd not seen you for a while. Would be worth mentioning to your GP/midwife maybe get your BP etc checked.
Scottish Chick glad your GTT is ok :) I think I'll follow your advice and stash a dummy incase
Bellola re:placenta, the hospital wrote in my notes not for active third stage so I won't be sitting there waiting to 'give birth' to mine so I'll have the injection and they'll sort it out. They didn't tell me, I read it myself and questioned them! I'm at higher risk of bleeding so I think they just want to get it all done. But dr said I'll be too busy looking at bubba and counting fingers and toes etc to worry about what is going on down there. It's something maybe to talk to your midwife about and put in your birth plan maybe if you decide you have any preference. The placenta has to detach itself from the wall for it to come out and the injection hurries that up...that's the impression I got. As for skin to skin for natural birth it depends whether you want baby gunk and all or prefer midwife to wipe them down. Baby can be popped on your chest/belly immediately(if all is well), would make sure your clothing allows this or for it to be removed easily.

Had our antenatal tour of the hospital. Was very good, nice to have a little nosy round there. We were on the midwife led bit and a lady got taken upstairs to the delivery suite. But when we got upstairs to the delivery suite about 15 mins later we saw her being rushed for a crash section :( couldn't stop thinking about her last night.
Thinking about the birthing bit, I asked the midwife what does baby need right there like in the delivery room. So in a separate little bag for immediately after I'm going to have a nappy, vest, sleep suit and a hat. So I don't need my massive suitcase and OH rummaging for a nappy etc lol.

Quick question. I'm planning to breast feed. I have a steriliser and bottles and all that stuff. Are people sterilising everything just incase they need it? I was thinking maybe buying a couple of those little cartons of milk and pre sterilised disposable bottles as a back up. But surely the hospital want let baby starve if it doesn't work and OH could work a steriliser?

Got a bit of last minute tidying/washing to do. Think my aunt and co are aiming to get here about 6pm so hopefully should be able to get it all done.

Huge labour vibes to those who need/them. Also hugs to those that need them too xx

Sometimes baby will lie on one side mostly my right so there's a big oval shape there and nothing on my left. But that picture looks a little freaky! This my bubba's going to run out of room soon :(

Ooh yuck MrsB, wish I hadn't asked! I really had no idea about that part of it so thanks for the info. Gives me a bit of an idea what to expect now.

Yay for maternity leave Elelyn. Although very jealous, I have annual leave today then back at work Thurs, annual leave Fri, work Mon & Tues, annual leave Weds and last day Thurs. So 4 days left at work in total. Annual leave then begins on Fri and maternity leave starts 3rd Sept. Whoo hoo, can't wait!

Thanks for the info LMM. I really feel naive, or maybe I just haven't done any research! I think it's probably because both me and hubby are very laid back and tend to go with the flow. No one could believe how calm we were on our wedding day last year and I think it will be the same in the last few weeks of pregnancy and the birth.
  • Well I only know really as they sneakily wrote it into my notes without discussing it. I'm beginning to realise that I know very little, but maybe that is best. I'm still thinking go in, pop him out, have a cuppa, come home and live happily ever after :) the end

That sounds lovely, think I will go with that idea too!

Ooh and my little one is definitely running out of room. I barely get any kicks/punches now. Its mainly rolling movements. The end is near!
