FIRSTLY....you have a magimix???!! OH WOW! Is it one of those lovely ones that are colourful and shiny???!!! (I am soooo jealous if it is....I have wanted one for ages...!)
I know! How scary??!! I have eaten 3 of my scones already! Its the smell! Decided that it would be my lunch so am having a diet coke (caffeine free!) to compensate (I did use low fat olive spread as well instead of butter....!:D...but full fat cheese!!! Opps!)I know... I am so lucky, I LOVE my Magimix and basically make everything and anything in it! It was a wedding present from a very generous guest... It's this one (it was a bit cheaper four years ago when we were given it!):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003NE04OW
What I really lust after these days is a KitchenAid!!! But (other than in the past week or so) I really don't do enough baking to justify the cost! Plus being on maternity leave means even if I could justify the cost I don't have the cash!
I just had two scones for my lunch... along with a load of leftover bulghar wheat and squash salad from yesterday (reasonably healthy to offset the cheese/butter overload!)... and then a piece of the carrot cake which my mum brought round yesterday.... I honestly won't be surprised if I have a 15lb baby now.
Turns out I can't actually count, I got 12 scones from the dough I made. So 8 left now after DH and I attacked them - do they freeze ok? Do you defrost them first or just stick them in the oven from frozen and warm through?0 -
Will try and most a bit more about pregnancy rather than just recipes, but for now, here is that Delia recipe I mentioned earlier...
110g butter
50g plain dessert chocolate
2 eggs, beaten
225g granulated sugar
50g plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
110g chopped nuts - whatever you fancy... I usually use pecans, but walnuts, hazelnuts, brazils, etc, or a mixture. You could leave them out if you don't like/can't eat nuts but they do add a nice extra texture!
Pre-heat oven to 180
Grease and line a tin approx. 18x28 cm. I think my tin is more like 25cm square or something. A bit bigger or smaller shouldn't be a disaster!
Melt butter and chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water
Away from the heat stir in all of the other ingredients and then spread the mixture in the lined tin.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes. A knife should come out cleanly from the centre and the mixture should be starting to shrink away from the side of the tin. I think I usually add another 5 minutes to the cooking time.
Cool in the tin for ten minutes and then divide into squares before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling.
The only warning I would add.... these are a real pain to get off the greaseproof paper! I haven't found a good way round this problem yet... other than a lot of patience and a palette knife or similar. Last time I made them I cooled them on the greaseproof paper and then turned it upside down and sort of peeled the paper off! Worth the effort though as they are delicious!
Ok, must remember this is a pregnancy thread and NOT a baking thread.... but the baking is an integral part of dealing with going overdue!!0 -
Thank you for keeping me occupied girls!:T
I can't make the lemon cake until the OH gets home - I have no lemons as yet but I absolutely luuurve lemon drizzle cake - so fab - thanks mrsj28 - will google the brownies and see if I have the ingredients in! You might regret turning down that sweep!!! I would kill for another!:D I got all confused about the engaged bit - but I don't think that means much anymore to me - my baby has stayed put at 2/5ths for weeks now! (this means apparently 3/5ths is down in my pelvis and they can only feel 2/5ths of the head - I only realised this after googling! DUH! How do you get them to move further down - I even watched OBEM on my ball last night!!!).
I have no nutella Claree - well actually...the truth is that I dare not have any in the house- otherwise I just get a spoon and eat it straight out of the jar until its gone! (have you ever tried a nutella icecream milkshake - OMG!:p)
Cheesy biscuits sound good Nessie! Might try those - do you put them in a ball or roll them out????
Just got some free shampoo and conditioner with a magazine subscription I took out - think its expensive stuff - the only trouble is its for fine, limp hair - mine is completely the opposite! Smells lush though - might have to give it to the OH and just sniff his head constantly!:rotfl:
Too be honest i chuck balls into the sections of a muffin tin - that way they don't stick together :rotfl:
But roll into balls & flatten a bit would work too they flatten out a bit when cooking
Everyone who have tried them love them - hubby loves even more when i use half cheddar & half stilton!
Can't remember where i got the recipe from originally hence i don't know the temps etc.0 -

Had it this morning - was a bit stingy for about an hour afterwards but it's fine at the moment, hopefully won't flare up again!
I have blood taken at every bloomin' appointment it seems but I dunno if that's normal! My Debt Free Diary

Yeah, its normal to have bloods at 28 weeks
Just been to see MW (a new one) she was lovely and all is fine with little one and myself, still only 4/5 engaged but still hoping it could happen anytime now especially with this expected heat wave next week!New first time mummy to a gorgeous little boy!

I have never frozen these ones but I have frozen scones before and just shoved the cooked version in the freezer.
I also ended up making these and now feel sick as I have stuffed myself silly today! (they are very nice if you like coconut though!!!): http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/11268/coconut-carrot-slices You can just see the newspaper headlines now "MSE produces several 15lb babies through recipe addiction"!!!!
I didn't have the nuts for the brownies....maybe tomorrow after I have sent OH out tonight - this baby is just going to stay put for a while longer isn't she!:( (see you girls for next recipe saga tomorrow:D!!!)

MrsJ28 - just wanted to say that I think you were very calm about those FB comments - my blood would have been boiling if I'd read the same about me! Funnily enough I am not feeling as sensitive about the incessant 'you look humungous' comments from my co-workers.
I had a few twinges over the weekend so have decided to bring my mat leave date forward by 10 days or so, now I'm just counting down the hours!

big labour vibes to the top 4 x
mrsj28 I would be annoyed at those fb comments too!
I'm feeling upset and stressed more than usual nowadays. Just gotten home and started trying to chomp on crisps to make myself feel better even though that doesn't work. Not sure if its pregnancy hormones or just life being crap. 24+50 -
