Morning ladies
No excitement here! Had another hot curry last night, but no joy...! Had midwife appointment this morning, a new midwife I hadn't met before which for some ridiculous reason really upset me (shall we blame the hormones...?!) even though she was really nice! Head is now 4/5 engaged which is some progress at least. She said I could have a sweep if I wanted, but basically said she didn't think it'd work this early on so I decided not to. It annoyed me that she wrote 'sweep declined' in my notes because I felt I'd only declined it because she was so negative about it!!
I've been booked in for a sweep next Wednesday and then induction next weekend if nothing happens in the meantime. I desperately desperately do not want to be induced!
Baby's heartbeat lovely and strong which is always so nice to hear - that's the main thing, all is ok with the baby and I need to stop being hung up on the 'birth experience'!
One of DH's auntie's has posted something on facebook saying 'come on baby, you are late' or something and suddenly all extended family members have jumped in commenting.... I've steered clear of the discussion but I am getting very irrational and feeling like it's all my fault the baby hasn't arrived yet! People are commenting on her post saying that my poor MIL must be desperate for a cuddle with the baby....erm.....if she's desperate, how do they think I'm feeling?!!!
Oh dear, I am definitely blaming the hormones for my ranty nature today....
Claree - better to be safe than sorry and glad all is ok with that rash, but sorry to hear you had a long hospital visit last night!
Sam - hope your midwife appointment and birth plan goes well today!
Sparkles - sorry to hear you are still so sickHope you have a better day of it today
NikkiAnn - hope your new midwife was nice and appointment goes well. Some of the couples from our antenatal class have had their babies (including some queue jumpers!) and I know what you mean about wanting it to be our turn next! But it is lovely to see the newborn babies and to know that very soon it WILL be our turn!
Dida - mmm cheese scones, I've never made them before! Might just give them a go! I have a BBC Good Food magazine subscription and going to try a new lasagne recipe for dinner tonight, Chicken and Pesto lasagne, it's got butternut squash in it too (yum) and all sorts of unhealth like mascarpone cheese...mmmm.. *dribbling*. As for an easy recipe, my go-to cake recipe is a really easy lemon drizzle cake which has never failed me! Here it is: http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/lemon-drizzle-cake-765 I usually use the zest of two lemons in the cake instead of one to make it a bit more lemony.
 welcome to any new ladies who have joined the thread recently, sorry I haven't said individual hellos!
ETA: Just remembered another foolproof and delicious recipe - Delia Smith's American Chocolate Brownies. Not sure if the recipe is online, but it's in her 'Complete Cookery Course' book, will try and dig it out later and post the recipe. Really chewy squidgy yummy brownies!0 -
Nigella has an amazing nutella cheesecake recipe on her website which is mega easy and goes down well.
Just in work (I know, I really take the p!ss with appointments) after my whooping cough vac (stingy!) and a trip to the pharmacy for some emolient. I've tried googling it but I can't find much info on whether it's available in England for most of you ladies but they do a minor ailments service here which means I can certain get stuff on prescription - for free - from the chemist rather than having to go get a prescription from the doctor. It's really helpful if it is available - check it out
Also stopped for a baguette for lunch & to check if River Island had the shoes I wantedMy Debt Free Diary

Cheese scones in the oven
Dida, my rapid weight gain in these last days is going to be all your faultIf I have a massive baby it'll be because of all the cakes and scones and cookies and... etc

Thank you for keeping me occupied girls!:T
I can't make the lemon cake until the OH gets home - I have no lemons as yet but I absolutely luuurve lemon drizzle cake - so fab - thanks mrsj28 - will google the brownies and see if I have the ingredients in! You might regret turning down that sweep!!! I would kill for another!:D I got all confused about the engaged bit - but I don't think that means much anymore to me - my baby has stayed put at 2/5ths for weeks now! (this means apparently 3/5ths is down in my pelvis and they can only feel 2/5ths of the head - I only realised this after googling! DUH! How do you get them to move further down - I even watched OBEM on my ball last night!!!).
I have no nutella Claree - well actually...the truth is that I dare not have any in the house- otherwise I just get a spoon and eat it straight out of the jar until its gone! (have you ever tried a nutella icecream milkshake - OMG!:p)
Cheesy biscuits sound good Nessie! Might try those - do you put them in a ball or roll them out????
Just got some free shampoo and conditioner with a magazine subscription I took out - think its expensive stuff - the only trouble is its for fine, limp hair - mine is completely the opposite! Smells lush though - might have to give it to the OH and just sniff his head constantly!:rotfl:0 -

OMG! Already!
If you used that recipe I hope you added extra cheese - they weren't all that cheesy with the original amount in! Mine have heaps on top also!
It might be why my baby is staying put so be careful????!!! All that home-baking is enough to keep anyone indside!;)0 -

I doubled the amount of cheese and sprinkled a bit on top too
I made them quite small (2cm cutter) so have about sixteen little ones... I'll probably eat about fifteen of them in the next ten minutes.
I used the magimix to do the 'rubbing in the butter' bit which speeds things up a lot! DH is working at home today and has pimped some of them with bits of chilli on top as well!
Do you know, you might be right, maybe the babies are enjoying the home baking so much and are worried there might not be any cakes once they come out and we are sleep deprived and no longer baking to 'pass the time'!!0 -
Loving all the recipes guys! I've altered the lemon and raspberry cake slightly to make cupcakes instead of a big cake. Also found that DH had stolen all the raspberrys, so improvised by adding a spoonful of rasp jam along with the lemon curd to each one...they are rather tasty! Got macaroni cheese in the oven just now for DH dinner as I'm meeting friends for dinner tonight, then I think I might make a batch of fruit scones.
Does anyone know if the dough for scones can be frozen/kept in fridge? Was going to make two lots, but they will get eaten just as quickly as one lol, so thought I'd keep one lot of dough back for sticking in the oven at the weekend.0 -
I used the magimix
FIRSTLY....you have a magimix???!! OH WOW! Is it one of those lovely ones that are colourful and shiny???!!! (I am soooo jealous if it is....I have wanted one for ages...!)

I know! How scary??!! I have eaten 3 of my scones already! Its the smell! Decided that it would be my lunch so am having a diet coke (caffeine free!) to compensate (I did use low fat olive spread as well instead of butter....!:D...but full fat cheese!!! Opps!)0 -

I reckon the dough will keep for around a week in the fridge - theres nothing really in it to go off quickly - but put it in an airtight container (where I have last weeks cookie dough!). But like we have both mentioned - do add lots of extra cheese!
Great idea about the cupcakes! Its always top easy to cut yourself a bigger slice than you mean to isn't it....!0 -
I'm now so excited to go on Mat. Leave so that I can start baking - how bizarre :rotfl: My OH will be thrilled though.
I'm dying for one of those lovely looking mixers thay use on the Great British Bake Off though. It'd be a complete waste of money but I'd love it for a whileMy Debt Free Diary
