I'm wondering if there's any other parentcraft classes I can go to - I'm missing the 1st of my 4 'cause I'm on holiday and then the 2nd 'cause I have my anti-d that morning....I would have asked horrible midwife this morning but she was horrible :rotfl:My Debt Free Diary

You could do an NCT course, but they are pretty expensive. I really don't think there will be much to learn as I've heard from others who have done them in Glasgow that they cater for people who literally know nothing! I'll let you know how mine goes tonight - it should be similar seen as we are in the same city...0

I have just bought this book - if anyone is interested in learning about being a new mum - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1904760511/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I am starting to go through it (dipping in here and there) and its got some really good stuff in it - especially for just after birth - I felt I knew lots about pregnancy but not really much about the first few weeks. It gives you lots of tips.....I haven't read it all yet as its quite hefty - but its also useful to dads as well - and I will be getting the OH to read it!;) I think its one of the most useful things I have bought so far!0 -

Dylan! The most beautiful welsh name there is.
There's someone on the newborn thread with a baby called Dewi (pronounced Dare - Wee for those non welsh speakers out there). I think that's lovely. I also adore Gethin. One of my closest friends is a Gethin. Lovely name, lovely person.

Ask another midwife whether they can put you down for some alternative ones, perhaps in a local borough or something. Don't pay NCT prices unless you particularly want to do NCT. The NHS should be able to provide you with something provided you're insistent enough."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I had a visit from the HV team at about 32 weeks, they were really nice, gave me my red book which they said to bring in when I have baby so the hospital can keep all her notes and information together. Then she just explained their post-birth visits, talked about some local mum's groups etc. for support if I wanted and explained where the clinics were for baby's checks and getting her weighed.
I've read on other boards that you're meant to insert EPO not take it?0 -
Congratulations Mogwai :j Hooray for another baby
Sorry for all those who have had rubbish midwife/HV appointments. I feel so lucky, the midwives in my area have all been lovely. The HV came round a few weeks ago and it felt like a bit of a waste of time, but she was fairly inoffensive!
Have been absolutely loving the sunshine, makes the waiting so much easier! Lots of lazing in the gardenBut I am getting a bit impatient too... am really keen to have the baby now...
My reusable nappies arrived yesterday, had a sudden panic and wondered if I'll be able to resist the temptation of disposables! But I'll give it a go and won't beat myself up about it if we don't get on with them!
Re: antenatal courses - the NHS should be able to get you on to one course or another, but you will have to push for it and be quite assertive I think. We did NCT and it is expensive, but I was very impressed and feel much better informed after doing the course, and it was nice to meet other couples having babies at the same time. I thought the NHS classes were good but just a lot of information condensed into a short time, the NCT classes were more in depth and there was more time to ask questions and understand things better. That's just my take on it - you will hear lots of different opinions!0 -
Thanks for all the advise about antinatal courses - I'll try to make it along to the next ones which I should be able to do...I can make the 3rd and 4th one of this block and hopefully the 1st and 2nd of the next block so I'll just do them a bit back to front :rotfl:
I realise this is probably tmi but I decided to try home waxing last night. I tried a bit on my leg first to see if it was okay and it wasn't too sore - then I had to employ OH's help as I couldn't see past the bump and OMG. Do not attempt to wax your own bikini line. He did 2 strips and was told where to go. I don't remember it being that sore when I've had it done professionally so I'm going back to the pros before I go on holiday! My Debt Free Diary
