I would have told her that it wasn't convenient as I had a (made up) appointment. Pushy people really get my back up! I haven't had a HV ring me. Maybe its because you want a home birth but either way I'm sure that you can tell them to jog on.
I like your attitude!!!!I didn't think about it at the time as I was a bit taken back to be rung so close to my due date (she thought it was later - so I don't even know if she knows I am having a home birth...if she doesn't even know when I am due!).
Thinking about it now - I just don't want her round and its made me quite angry but I have no means of contacting her to cancel the appointment. I did initially try and put her off by saying I was still working from home - but then she went along the lines "it will only take 30 mins..." and that I could have any time as she didn't have any other visits tomorrow.
Do health visitors normally do antenatal appointments????0 -
Thank you both - just rang their answerphone (got the number from the docs surgery) and left a message saying that as it was so close to my due date I didn't think it was appropriate that they called round but by all means they could contact me after the birth.
Thank you - sometimes you just need someone else's opinion and sometimes you get put on the spot and agree to things you wouldn't normally agree to! x0 -
HV's often see you once before sprog arrives.. to hand over the red book and discuss what services they offer and tell you where the baby clinics are and when they do the routine checks. They don't do antenatal checks like the midwife does, they aren't trained to!
I refuse to see them before and after the birth, I simply tell them if I feel there is something they can help with I have their phone number but in reality they are a waste of time and money for anyone with a shred of intellect.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Lol I'm only like this because I am sick of the community MW's constant grumpiness and general can't-be-bovvered attitude. Good on you for ringing and leaving a message though. You will just have to spend tomorrow hiding behind closed curtains:rotfl:

We are also quite lazy, if baby is used to a grobag then when we are at the in laws or away in march 2014, I can just pack a couple knowing they will be in familiar sleep wear. Also I'm afraid when we go to Antiga in March the hotel might not provide cellular blankets and they aren't meant to have fleece/other types. Grobags just seem easier.
However, everything I want seems bad for baby... Jumperoo, bottles, dummy, fleece blankets, baby walker, car seat for 2+ hours... I now know why you get 9m notice - it's to read up and learn what's right and wrong!!If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
Dida - In my area, HV's have nothing to do with you until you are discharged to them from the midwife 2 weeks after baby is born.
If she turns up tomorrow don't be afraid to send her away if you don't want to see her.14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
Evening all, couple of days late BA from me, baby arrived a week early at 38+6 on Monday night, I was told it was a quick labour for FTM, 3 hours in established labour (19 hrs from waters breaking)..baby was 6lb 13oz, tiny angel...
Both of us doing well, just having a few problems with getting him to latch so I'm supplementing with formula and syringe colostrum feeding til my milk comes in tomorrow hopefully!
Am absolutely in love with my little man, he is such a sweetie, rarely cries except last night when he was so hungry I had to send OH out to get formula to supplement. Just want him to be able to breastfeeding now
The Birth was really difficult but you really forget the pain the very moment you see your baby!I would recommend raspberry leaf tea and a tens machine simply because it distracts and I did miss the distraction when I was in the pool.
I had gas and air and pethidine but apparently was asking for an epidural the whole time, lol, the one thing i wanted to avoid, but luckily my midwife was quite good at dissuading me from having one by diverting my attention to G&A and pethidine options.
Am just enjoying my little one now, and can't believe he's really here!
Also, I'm not sure about this, but it could have been the EPO I took that set off labour earlier, I'd taken it (1000mg) onc before and it made me feel a bit uncomfortable, I then took another 1000mg on the sat and it set off about 3 hrs of contractions, then the next evening my waters broke..it may have been a coincidence but who knows! Just be careful with EPO if you are pre-37 weeks! We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic.

Congrats mogwai!! Glad your labour wasn't too bad, enjoy your little man!
Helen, epo - evening primrose oil I believe! Thats what I read it as anyway!:D
Dida, hope you don't end up with a surprise visit from HV today! I didn't have any contact with mine till about 10 days after birth with both of mine, maybe varies area to area?
Labour vibes to those that want them and stay put to those that don't!
Not a lot to do today except sorting a few baby bits, and packing for my dd to go away, she's leaving me for five days, not happy!
