It's a bit scary how much midwife care varies. I really couldn't fault mine. I've seen 3 different MW so far and all have looked at my notes and asked about them. I guess I should count myself lucky - and keep my fingers crossed that the hospital midwives are as good!

More getting organised planned for today. I need to build the changing table and then head out and get a changing mat as I forgot that yesterday. I also need to make curtains for DS's room.

Has anyone started taking their hospital bag out and about with them? Whilst I was out yesterday it occurred to me that I was in the city, 10 mins from the hospital, DH was also in the city at work. But my bag was at home which would be a good 45 minute round trip away. I carry my notes with me, but might chuck the bag in the boot if I'm venturing more than a couple of miles from home.

    Morning all.

Knackered this morning, the horrible sticky heat up here is getting to me. I'd rather it was either warm or not warm - not inbetween! Added to this I forgot to bring ham for my rolls this morning so I'm having a dry baguette for breakfast - appetising.

Seeing the midwife tomorrow for another check up and so she can sign my fit to fly letter (hopefully!). I want to ask her about whether my dates could be wrong since I'm feeling everything approx. 2 weeks "early" and I'm measuring big....but I don't want her not to sign my letter :rotfl:

Hi BB - my notes are in the glove box of the car and I have a hospital suitcase in the boot - despite planning on being at home - you can never be sure. At the moment, I don't go anywhere outside the house without a car - so I figured that would be the best place for them!

Lola - hope you don't go too much over-due - I have pelvic pain too - I cannot wait for that to go - just standing making a salad last night killed me!

I had a couple of twinges last night but started some pelvic floor exercises (tbh it was only embarrassing bodies that reminded me - seeing that bloke do them in the "flesh" so to speak - uuugh!) in the hope it would send baby in the opposite direction - it seemed to work!:D

I don't think I've posted for a while, but I have been lurking. I have been away a bit as we went to Majorca for a last pre baby break and last week my SIL got married which was a 3 day event so I'm just about recovering from that.

Re non alcoholic bevies, I have discovered Schweppes Summer Punch. It is supposed to taste exactly like Pimms :). I wouldn't go that far though. More like a very watered down version that has been stuffed full of fruit then strained. Never the less it is quite refreshing and looks a bit alcoholic if you chuck a couple of strawberries in!!

Re nursing bras. I have just bought a pack of two in the Debenhams 20% off sale for £20. They are very comfy. I went up a cup size and back size from what I'm wearing now so hopefully they should be OK.

I'm starting to panic a bit about how unprepared I am. We have a pushchair and car seat, but no base; A bath, blue Moses basket (even though we're team yellow) and a bouncy chair off my sister in law; and I've just ordered a breast feeding starter kit from Home Bargains for £20 which has 3 bottles in. Apart from that we know which furniture we want but haven't done/bought anything else. I need to sell a sofa and coffee table before we can start on the baby's room as we need to move some other furniture around (move the futon downstairs etc). I don't know how you lot having building work and new kitchens are coping. I did write a list yesterday though so that has helped sort the fuzz in my brain out and I have a clear idea of what we need.

Last night when me and DH were discussing baby monitors he threw a spanner in the works as he mentioned he wanted one of the ones with a motion sensor mat. I was happy getting the BT 200/250. I know it's a personal choice, but what is everyone else doing? I don't know if the ones with a mat would make me more paranoid as I would need to leave it on all night until the baby is about 2 and I wasn't planning on having it on at night at all.

My previous midwife was lovely, but she has finished now so I have a new one for my appointment on Thursday. I hope she is nice as she has to take blood and I can be quite difficult to get blood from. I might have to give her the smack warning if she isn’t lol!! Also my HR rep has just told me that she has lost my MAT B1 even though it was put on her desk as I didn’t trust the internal post and was stapled to my application form. I hope that it won’t be a problem getting another one.

This has turned into a rather long post so I’ll try to post shorter and more often in future.

Congratulations to all the new arrivals. It must be such an exciting time. Sending labour/sticky vibes to all that need it.

    Hi nutshell

We have the monitor you are talking about... It's really good and the base works as a night light as well. :) it has a walkie talkie function as well so you can try to soothe them if they wake. The mats do sound good but personally I think I would worry more with that, you can be too paranoid I think! Go with the bt monitor hehe :)

    Hi Nutshell

I have a blue moses basket even though we're pink so don't worry! I bought it from the Grabbit thread a while back for £16 - is this where you got yours from???

Re. building work - I think I just considered myself very lucky that baby wasn't early - we only moved in last Thursday which was cutting it fine. But you have plenty of time (hopefully!) so don't panic!

We bought a motion sensor baby monitor - this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Angelcare-AC401-Movement-Sensor-Monitor/dp/B0013FW5G8/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1370424158&sr=8-5&keywords=baby+motion+sensor - think we got it when Amazon were offering £20 off or something. I figured to be woken up as a false alarm would be better than not being woken up if something was to go wrong and based our purchase really on the excellent reviews for it.

Hope sorting baby's room goes well - that's the fun bit! I might try and upload a piccy of our nursery later - quite pleased with it - although its VERY pink so hoping that the sonographers have got it right!!!!

I added a non alcoholic bottle cider to my online shopping order yesterday just to try - should arrive tomorrow - Sainsburys also do a nice sounding fizzy wine - but I figured by the time I got to have any - I could probably have a glass of the real stuff anyway!

We've got an Angelcare monitor with movement pad. It's reassuring to have but it was quite stressful when we had to stop using the movement part! So it's swings and roundabouts I guess. We had to stop using the pad when DS was about a year old as he kept rolling off to sleep curled up in a corner of the cot so we were getting a lot of false alarms.

nutshell -I hate to worry you but you usually can't get another MATB1 form, it's a legal document...your work really need to find it!

We have the BT250, the mat ones seem to be a bit hit and miss and I wouldn't want the additional stress.

I'm totally fed up of being pregnant now - can't sleep more than four hours a night so constantly tired, can't get comfortable due to backache sitting or standing or laid down. I'm also really bad at doing nothing!

Bummer - I'm quite cross. I even sent a scan as they didn't believe I'd sent it!!

I'm not sure what to do re monitors. The BT 250 is about £50, but the Tommee Tippee with the mat is £61.97 from Babies r Us http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Babies-R-Us/Safety/Monitors-and-Nightlights/Tommee-Tippee-Digital-Sensor-Mat-Monitor%280085978%29?searchPosition=0

    Hi Nutshell,

    From this ref http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/matb1-guidance.pdf

After a maternity certificate has been issued to a woman, no further maternity certificate based on the same examination can be issued other than a maternity certificate which is a replacement of an original which has been lost or mislaid in this case it must be clearly marked “duplicate”.

Just to add - im a retired midwife (on ill health grounds) but was not aware that I could offer a replacement so point your midwife to the reference if she is not sure
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
