I always loved welsh names but there seems to loads of them about now, where as a few years ago, they were not used much!

I have always loved the Gethin and Ieaun, but there seems to be loads about now!!! I like Seren (means start in welsh) for a girl but it now seems to be a popular name in Wales!!! Esyllt is another one I like. I think I will be out in the garden on the ipad searching for names this weekend!!!

I have also to bring up the subject with the OH of where the bean is going to go to school!!! Hopefully get the keys to our new house on monday after a few false starts... and opposite the house is an english school where his kids went to!!! I would love the bean to go to a welsh school, even though I not a fluent speaker I can understand most of it and grew up in a welsh area and worked in Carmarthen where everyone speaks it!!!

I think this conversation can wait, still have the surname to get through... his dad asked last night if we had any names yet... I said it probably have my surname... that went down like a lead ballon!?!

I have got to say as this is my first pregency, I have had no problems with the midwifes of the information given to me!!! The only issue I have had is being sat for long periods of time in the hospital waiting for tests and seeing the consultant!!!

I was looking at the NCT classes as friends have said they are really good, but I was put off by the cost!!! Having had very good experiances with the midwifes and they have been very helpful, advising of the breatfeeding groups and aqua natal classes (run by midewifes), I feel the NHS ones will be fine for me. Especially as the run them all in local leisure centeres.

I had an appt with my new MW yesterday and she was lovely. She was rather chatty though so although I came out very reassured she was taking 5-10 minutes longer per appt. Luckily I saw the nurse for my WC jab too so not too much hanging around for me. Others were waiting for 50 mins though!! DH got to hear the heartbeat for the first time too which he was chuffed about.

I've missed the beginning of this round of Parent Craft classes too. The first was on Tuesday which my last MW didn't tell me about. She just told me to arrange it at my next appointment (28w). The next lot don't start until the 2nd July. I think I might do the 3rd (feeding and baby care) out of this block and then do the first and second (labour and hospital tour) at the next as the dates fit best for me.

I have finally ordered some stuff (bedding, changing mat, monitor etc) :o so I might be prepared for the baby in 11 weeks after all. My old sofa is currently on ebay and is hopfully (fx) being collected on Saturday. We will be able to have a shift around of stuff once that is gone moving the futon downstairs to our playroom/dining room etc. Yeah!!

I don't want to sound like an absolute cow but is anyone else getting annoyed by the "Am I pregnant?" threads on the board? TAKE A FLIPPING TEST!

Just joining in the antenatal classes discussion -

We have been to one class - it was a 3 hour session with MW about active birth and then a 3 hour session with a HV about newborns etc

That's it, I have been given a leaflet about a BF clinic/cafe to go to if I want by my MW but that's it

The class was good, I didn't feel like they were telling me much I didn't already know about but I did learn a few things (not saying I know it all as I'm a first timer and I know I don't know everything!) but just was really basic discussions on being in labour

So, should I be going to more classes, as no one has mentioned it?

Hope everyone else is having a better day.

neneromanova - I felt like that too when I was going for my 20 week scan, I just kept thinking that they were gunna scan me and there would be nothing there, as stupid as that sounds

Try to enjoy it, everyone feels nervous but it should be amazing and special

Are you going to find out what your having?

    Morning all!

I had parentcraft last night and it was okay. We spent an hour going through the stages of labour and birth with a very nice midwife, what would happen at each stage, when to call the hospital, what to do at home while you're labouring, she explained about 'transition' and the feelings you might have and gave advice about what to ask for to help with the pain (e.g. a hot pack for the perineum etc), diamorphine etc. and how and when to use the gas and air. I did know the majority of it, but there were some good bits that I didn't know, like the heat pack, using a tennis ball for massage, using a mirror underneath you if you are feeling like you can't do it so that you can actually see how well you are doing with the pushing and reassure yourself etc.

She also made a good point about being assertive with the hospital. They will encourage you to stay at home for as long as they can which is fair enough, but she said if you really feel like you need care and they are telling you not to come in she said to say this. 'I have had a bath, used massage, taken pain-killers, used my birth ball etc. etc. and know I need some care. My name is XXXX and I'm coming in'. End of. She said to let them hear you having a contraction on the phone too. just say 'hold on, I'm having a contraction' and if they know you can't speak through it and can hear you breathing it through then that helos, then come back on the phone and say 'that was a really strong contraction'. Hopefully if we do this then we can avoid the situation of that lady's grandaughter (I can't remember what her username was) that had to call 5 times and they still wouldn't let her go in.

We then had an hr at physio learning relaxation techniques and practicing with our partners what they can say to you to help you through a contraction. Then we did first stage labour positions and next week we are doing second stage labour positions and some other bits and pieces.
