The antenatal classes I went to were poo, they didn't really talk about going home and looking after a baby. They went on about the labour and how things could progress, but there are so many variables. My DH knew more about epidurals/gas & air/ pethidine etc than the MW doing the course as he's experienced all 3 plus more on top because he's had so many ops in his past.
I hear the NCT one are nice, but I had to cancel mine as DH's best friend decided to get married and 2 out of 3 weeks we could attend- stag/hen and actual wedding.
As long as you do a bit of research you'll be fine, the ones I went to were more geared towards teenagers who have no clue!Got married 13/11/10

Thanks missymoo, not even any Braxton hicks here :-( I think the good old fashioned way will be the way to go now. I will just have to try and persuade OH (he's terrified of hurting me) and wait til the teenager is asleep. Lol. X0

I think that it very much depends on where you live in the UK. The care that I have received from my community midwife team has been shocking but the parent craft lessons have been quite good. Now, we have all been older mums at the lessons which has been fab for me and the polar opposite of what I see when I'm sat waiting there for my community midwife appointment.0 -
Thanks all for your comments - it certainty has been a bumpy ride...
Back home now after getting back from the hospital.
A consultant (not the wife's as she was off today) has advised that she has pre-eclampsia, and during the day she had to have insulin injections because of the steroid injections and blood pressure tablets can cause sugar levels to go all over the place.
They also discussed the possibility of inducing her either Monday or Tuesday (Tues will be 36w) if her levels stabilise rather than over the weekend to give the steroid injections time to work their magic. He will discuss with the wife's normal consultant tomorrow to see if she feels the same way and put some sort of plan together.
As I was there though, her blood pressure has stopped swinging massively and just slightly over, and slightly under the "ok" values as it were, protein had vanished in her afternoon test (but was still +3 this morning) and her other levels appear to have dropped again.
So I feel a little more comfortable myself about a "as close as poss to 36w" delivery and that things seem to be calming down. The wife also appears to have accepted what is going on, I thought she was going to be an emotional wreck tonight with being woken up each hour to be poked and prodded.
So overall although none of this is ideal, its probably the best out of a bad bunch of scenarios! Fingers crossed that everything keeps within safe tolerances!0 -
Fingers crossed for you and your OH splank, it seems as though you and OH are coping brilliantly.0

It must be a postcode lottery as my MW team with my first were fab, should be the same ones for this pregnancy. My doctor's surgery is in a nice area, but the classes were NHS and in a not so nice area (I'm not being snobby, its just a large immigrant/council area) so that might be a factor.
The first week there were loads probably about 20-25 couples, then it just got less and less, by the last week there were less than half! I will say the ones that lasted the course were mainly the older mums.Got married 13/11/10

You know, I can't work out if I am infected with a bug or not as my tum is decidedly dodgy. I don't do bugs lol.
OR....you are getting close! At our NCT class we were told that your stomach and bowels empty quite quickly nearer the time of birth..... Keep your legs crossed!!!!:D
On another note.....I have found my first stretch marks - under my bump.....damn mirror - I wouldn't have seen them otherwise as I don't seem to have any more.....yet (I think OH had deliberately not told me!). I have been using Bio-oil religiously as well! Pah! How are everyone elses stretch marks??0 -

Sounds like you've been having a rough ride, but at least they're looking after you. If your wife has had the steroids, that should definitely help with lung development etc which is one of the main things they're worried about with premature birth, and as you say you're only 10 days off 37 weeks, which is considered full-term etc. Despite the history, it's sounding positive, please keep us posted.0 -
Morning, Roos been up since 5.30 again. Talk about tired! Last morning at work today, really can't be bothered, so tired! Really crampy tummy today too but I'm sure it's just poo related, not baby coming. Well OH is home a week today, just need to hang on til then!
I hope everyone slept well.
Feel like I need to do yet more cleaning, hoovering, floor washing and washing to do, might change the bed too.0 -
