ZC hello! Glad all seemed well at the scan. To be honest I didn't mention anything at my scan as everything looked well. They didn't mention any measurement to me at the scan though.
... I spied on the screen when she was measuring it (and baby's length too). And I think it made it into my notes as well but can't quite remember. She measured the thing about 5 times!!

Thanks for your response ditziebubba. I know they only give you a chace type result. We would seriously think about further testing at 1:50 or less and see where those results take us.
I'm not sure about the risk chances, here my letter just said 'low' risk. I presume if I was higher risk they might have said '1 in xx' but all I got was 'low'.

    Thanks Ikkle87

Can I just ask anyone who's recently bought the Little Lambs bamboo nappies how they washed them and what temp? I've just had a delivery and it says to use half the manufacturer's recommended amount and no softener. So would half a cup of Persil non-bio clean them properly?

Sorry if it's a stupid question!

We haven't told anyone yet apart from parents and DH is worried that if we have to make difficult decisions then he's worried that everyone would know. I on the other hand think we'd need family and friends support.
Ah! OK, from your first post I thought you were specifically telling people that the down's risk was low, not that you were pregnant at all, sorry!

We told everyone after the scan (before the low risk letter), I was beginning to show by then anyway so wouldn't have been able to hide it from work much longer.

I take DH's point but equally are you going to be able to not tell everyone until the anomoly scan says everything's OK?? The risk of Down's is quite low in any case (relative to what else can go wrong) - of course depending on age and so on but still.
  • Carrie huge hugs hun. So sorry to hear about your grandad xxx
Rups seriously everyone is different! And the first few times you feel something you might not be sure it's baby or wind lol.
ZC silly me I forgot that you'd probably not have told others yet. Seems a long time ago since my 12 week scan now! I'm sure I didn't get my letter saying we were low risk for a couple of weeks. I was bursting to tell people though so the second I was out of the scan I was on the phone! We'd told our parents and a few close people before then. I see your hubby's view though, everyone will have an opinion on it if something were wrong and that can be hard to handle. Did they say how long it might take for results. I'm sure some ladies on here have rung and got the results over the phone rather than waiting for the letter. I guess I thought myself as low risk and wasn't too worried and that I would have the baby anyway. it never crossed my mind as all was well at the scan. Maybe just agree a few more close people to tell your news to? I was literally bursting to announce it I couldn't have waited a couple more weeks lol. Mine was low, one in 87000.

As for the movements, I had one 'pop' probably at 19 weeks or so, which if it wasn't for its location could have been mistaken for indigestion of some kind (and of course seeing as there were no other symptoms of indigestion...).

Then a few days before my scan (which was at 20+4) I could feel repeated movements, and got OH to feel them too. Now I've got them every day usually in about two bursts of 'activity' (currently seems unrelated to sugary drinks/ice lollies - there was a party going on in there last night before bed!!)

zcrat - sorry I cant help regarding the Downs testing - we opted not to have the nuchal fold test etc.

Am I right in thinking they would have picked something up at the 20wk scan if there was a chance of Downs?

Ive got a dentist appointment this aft. Not looking forward to sitting back in the chair with this dodgy nerve in my leg, hoping he can do the checkup with me sitting more upright. Also having lots of gum bleeding too

Had a bad day with (TMI) really bad constipation yesterday. Was in a lot of pain all aft, lots of cramps etc, took plenty of lactulose and some fibogel which helped a little bit but still a bit uncomfortable today. Wondering whether to stop taking the Iron tablets altogether or cut them down to 1 every other day til I see the consultant next Weds

Carrie, sorry to hear about your grandad xx

Lots of luck to the ladies who are v close to having their babies xx

cake4brains it says in my iron tablet leaflet that the tummy effects can be minimised if you take your tablet with food. Don't know if this helps at all. I also take mine with a glass of fruitjuice.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

This is just something the midwives recommend if you've had no movements for a while hun as the temp change etc usually gets them going x
