Thanks for your response ditziebubba. I know they only give you a chace type result. We would seriously think about further testing at 1:50 or less and see where those results take us.

It would be a very difficult decision and I know that DH as a very pragmatic person would be more keen on the abortive route than I would.

Rups - The doppler can be a reassurance but I wouldn't use it as a reassurance measure because the dopplers at home aren't the same grade as the ones used in hospital. We first used a doppler at 17 weeks and it took a bit of faffing but we did find it eventually. We didn't use it again until after I started feeling movements. If I felt that the baby hadn't moved for x amount of time I wouldn't even go near my doppler because if I couldn't find the heartbeat I would have a major meltdown even though I know the home dopplers aren't as accurate as the ones at hospital, I would try a cold drink and lying on my left hand side and then if that didn't work something sugary and an ice lolly as they always get him going then I would contact the midwife. This is why I would really really think hard and long about whether to get one because your a worrier anyway and I don't think you need any more ammunition and reason to worry. One thing you could look into is a private 4D scan where you can have the heartbeat recorded on to a teddy bear.

Movements I felt one or two at around 18-19 weeks and then I think they became more active after 21 weeks. The hospital always said they didn't take note of movements until after 24 weeks although at an appointment at 23ish weeks where they said they couldn't find a heartbeat they did ask about movements. (This was due to a faulty doppler though bubs was fine)

Erm everytime you come on here you make me jealous... I think this should be banned!!!

I want to meet my little boy and I want him to be perfect too :(

Good things come to those who wait. And he'll be perfect too. :)

I used to work with someone vile. He used to breath heavily, had this nervous cough/throat clearing thing that he'd do, without fail, every 90 seconds. Plus he slurped his tea and picked bits off his face and ate them. It was nauseating. We shot him in the end. Bang!

Thanks little_miss. It's not so much telling people about downs or that I'm worried about it in particular (although I do seem to find something to worry about every day!)

We haven't told anyone yet apart from parents and DH is worried that if we have to make difficult decisions then he's worried that everyone would know. I on the other hand think we'd need family and friends support.

DH is also of the opinion though that he won't get excited till it's here and healthy. As a famer he has a very literal and pragmatic approach to nature and life and death. We have had a few conversations already that kind of went "i'm not a cow!"

Hi everyone, just been reading back through all the messages since the weekend. I've had a stressful one as my grandad passed away from a heart attack so been running around sorting out the funeral arrangements.

Taadaa - you mentioned your mum didn't want to know the gender - mine's exactly the same! At first I just thought how silly, now I'm a bit upset as I can't discuss baby names or show her the cute outfits or toys I've bought as most of them are pink and give the game away!

Rups32 - I'm pregnant with my first and felt the first light flutters at exactly 20 weeks but hubby couldn't feel any kicks until about 22 weeks.
    Team pink due 5th Oct '12 :T

How long is a piece of string?? Some people feel them from 15-16 weeks some people are closer to 24 weeks, everyone is different, some people are more aware of their body and so pick up on the sensation earlier, some others have anterior placentas and so don't feel movements till later on. x

I felt movements from 18 weeks but only occasionally and only when it was something unmistakeable like a little foot kicking my bladder. Any 'pops' or flutters can easily be mistaken for digestive movements.

It then takes a few weeks before you're feeling something obvious every day. By 30 weeks, you wish it didn't actually have feet :D
