I hate our wooden floors :rotfl:
I'm not sure...I don't wanna use all the money. I think I'll pop to a carpet place this weekend that I've heard is cheaper than most so I'll see if they can do us a good deal. I just don't like the idea of having no savings ... ahh the joys of low wages!
OH is off to hamburg for a stag do in a few weeks so at least one of us is getting away! Hmph!
You definitely deserve to get away too then! I wouldn't be happy that he was getting away and I wasn't :rotfl:0 -
Sadly it isn't a child-free holiday as my 2 year old will be joining us (this is the reason I am doing it actually so he gets a holiday this year), along with OH's parents, his brother and wife and their 18 month old.
It's a family friends villa so it's dead cheap. We went last year too and DS really enjoyed himself. I'm hoping to be absolved of all duties and lie like a whale in front of the swimming pool for a week whilst OH and grandparents entertain DS
It never quite works out like that though...Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
May be a touchy subject but has anyone had the issue of grandparents (to be) smoking?
My in-laws smoke about 20 a day, each. Their whole house smells of smoke, their clothes smell of smoke even thier passports smell of smoke (I took them one day to check them into flights online). If OH & I are in the house they'll go outside to smoke but we still come out stinking of it.
I really don't want to take a baby into that house. I know it might be selfish to say I don't want it going to its grandparents but I know they go outside when I'm there but how do I know they'll do that if they're babysitting?
Plus studies show that going outside is very little help anyway...My Debt Free Diary

Had the exact problem
Mind you they only smoke in the kitchen - but it is the room we spend most of the time in
They now open the door wide & smoke at the door (not much help) but at least it's a start - i think my mum knows something is up because i don't go round as regularly
She has now promised that once baby is here that they will smoke outside fullstop - Can't see it happening myself!
I was lucky that i mentioned it to my brother & he told my mum it was wrong & she shouldn't smoke around me - the whole reason me & DH gave up was to have a baby - regardless to the money we were wasting!
Have you got a sibling that lives at home? Or a sibling that can casually mention that they don't think it is right that a baby should go into a smoky house?
It's definately a tricky subject to bring up - but if you feel that uncomfortable about it - tell them bluntly that you will not be taking baby to theirs - they will have to come to yours - because you don't want the baby exposed to second hand smoke!
I wish you luck x0 -
Unfortunately it's not my parents or I'd be putting the foot down - it's my OH's mum and dad. His younger brother still lives at home but he's only 13 so not much of an influence.
Thankfully OH agrees with me so I'm not fighting this battle on my own but he's not mentioned it to them recently. I know it's 5 months 'till my due date but who knows how long it'll take to quit and get rid of the smell! My Debt Free Diary

You might think the brother might not be an influence - but my brother is only 19 & lives at home - my mum always takes notice of what he says - might be worth getting him to say something - pretend it was something he was learning at school about the effects of smoking or something?
Experience has told me if they don't want to quit - they won't
DH didn't want to quit & he is now addicted to the lozenges :rotfl: (so is his mum who has been a non smoker for over 15 years!)0 -

Oh dear, that's a lot of lozenges :rotfl:
I don't want to be a cow about it but I will if I have to be! Joe mentioned that they'd have to stop soon and his mum said "Why?" and laughed like it was a joke. I was appauled. My Debt Free Diary

My dad is a smoker as is my brother. They both smoke in a room when my baby niece is at my parent's house, then wash their hands before they handle the baby.
It really winds me and OH (who is an ex-smoker himself) up and unfortunately, it'll be the best we'll get for baby, but I know there's not a lot that my dad will do about it - he wants to smoke.0 -

That's what worries me, they like smoking. I intend to be firm on it as much as I can though, it's not right for a tiny baby to be around that.My Debt Free Diary

I still think it's better to be on the lozenges than smoking!
DH has been given up nearly a year & still misses it - whereas i don't at all - now i have a super nose thanks to all the hormones - i can't stand the smell & i hate that i come away from my mum's stinking of them!
My mum will never give up & to be honest as much as i think they are bad etc. etc. i wouldn't want her to give up as she would be a complete nightmare without them :rotfl:0
